Exactly I think a lot of us are at the same conclusion.

To delve too deeply into lore, confirmed by Allen to not always be canon; to delve into historical clues, confirmed by FD to be dead ends, leave not a great deal to work with, to delve into literature, is a distraction, albeit a fun an educational one, but ultimately far too wide and thin to present genuine information.

I held off delving into various rabbit holes for some time, for this particular purpose, the information was too thin to warrant it and for myself, became a personal mental exercise, with tongue firmly in cheek when the game itself became rather stale.

In part my own ramblings, are an attempt to rattle the cage of the Codex and test absurd theories because on its own it means little, which I suspect is actually it’s true intent, existing more like grave stones, than mile stones.

To date, I know now from my own Raxxla journey, in my water, the original DW path that set out this thread is effectively dead.

Something is out there for sure, but the DW codex does not point to it, IMPO.

Same with the Raxxla codex, albeit I presume the puzzle was presented half completed for us, we likely already have a location (Delphi) but we are ironically stuck, being far too concerned with our own omphaloskepsis. I strongly feel (in my gut) that it’s next chapter is narratively locked.

carry 8 to 16
go to Delphi
they were so noisy in Delphi I wanted to eject them.
they make tones
many sounds actually
but tones according to what seems to be in front of you.
2 make 2 tones
4 make 4 tones
8 make 8 tones

most of the time it seems quite random
occasionally it is not.

Listen to the sounds of the galaxy through them
it is not the same when you carry trinkets.

I can't help but equate the trinkets with 'Eyes to see", eyes that see

and check out this thread jan 28 2021 where Jorki mentions Falconscreech who also did this and then some.
the Raxxla Hunters.
kudos.

I believe their value to be noticeable when there are more than 4 in your cargo.
8 or 16 being optimal.

Even though the trinkets trail is said to be dead, I think they still have value, or rather a function.
intended or not.
They are still in the game and they are not silent.

If they perform differently in a particular system than they do elsewhere this would indicate a mechanism, it needs to be tested to verify.

FD stated the Trinkets were linked to the DW mission story, but it was archived, they presently to use their own description are just a ‘curiosity’, they may turn that story back on.

I have that as feedback via Support via Devs, if that’s not been listed previously (presume I did) I can repost.

On its own doesn’t say definitively one thing either way, there is room for speculations as FD may have turned them on when the Codex was dropped. Who knows. But if we are proposing they are active and they make noises now we need to test them.

Entertaining the hypothesis they could be working they have a strong link to the dark Wheel via ‘Fortuna’ / lady fortune and Fortune Wheel. They are crystals too which may correlate to the silent song of the ‘crystalline spheres’ that were attributed to the DW missions.

If they omit a harmonic then it ought to be processed for a visual pattern.

@Rochester - You did mention that Support message re Trinkets.

@MrSuction - I tried collecting some, even went out to Thor’s Helmet Nebula at one point to get some (then someone mentioned they are frequently found in anarchy systems, just get a ship with reasonable damage resistance, manifest scanner, hatch breaker & collector limpets). I found the most in passenger ships, one Beluga was carrying 100!) . I had up to 7 at various times, tried listening in the hold, tried dropping & listening to them in space, but they made absolutely no sound for me, so I would question what sound settings were being applied! Though I didnt go to Delphi! Milesred’s claims above need to be tested. However I am now far from the bubble. MrSuction-your mission, should you choose to accept it.... this message will not self destruct, there are fire hazards in a spaceship!!

@Rochester - I think many have had lots of fun in chasing down various esoteric avenues in the Quest. As an educational exercise it has value, I’ve certainly explored things that I wouldn't otherwise have, but as a basis for hypotheses about Raxxla I have my doubts, and we’ve seen several instances of mental imbalance when it was taken too far. But IMHO there is an interpretation of the Codex that seems to make sense. Still got a way to go to test my next candidate, but once that’s done I’ll explain. However, I started this journey on Sunday, stopped overnight with a brief continuance Monday (as I said, RL is hectic at present) but on logging into my ship Monday I found the route had expanded-there were 4 extra systems enroute! Deleted the route twice and replanned it! Was there a hiccup in reality Sunday night? Have the incoming Stargoids caused a ripple in the spacetime continuum? Did the invisible Developers (still think they’re really Shadows! 👽👽) insert an unscheduled server event?? 🧐🧐

if it helps
npc's sometimes do thing that make no sense
that cobra III's seems to be a common carrier for trinkets, but never just 1
npc behavior is fascinating at times.
I have said this more than once
wisdom can be gained by watching sometimes.
following them
mimicking them

fdev has many ships in the game that seem pointless, but are not.
my fav example are the PP cargo haulers that can't dock at outposts, yet that is where they go.
follow one.
trinkets aside, there is much to learn just by watching.

I have learned much from watching
in a cz, what ships are npc.
in a haz res, what ships are npc, what ships are always there
every place needs a question
Thargoid base site, what all is there, why is anything there if it is dead? is it dead?
the list goes on

why is there a krait at the edge of my view almost always...
how do Pirates follow me everywhere and anywhere?
How does the SAR know when I need him?

I learned that waay back then, I could afford the aspX, it is in cz's because it is a rock. an amazing ship.
every ship in a cz is important.
every haz res has identical things, what are they.

haz res taught me, don't shoot all conda's
do shoot all Imperial Freighters(Clipper) some bias here...

some npc's are dumbed down and/or nerfed for us slow humans....
as in some are there to help, to lead, to show off..

beacons, remember the first discussion?
they can't be flipped...everyone said so.
I managed to flip 1, several times in 2015. 3 times.
That one event taught me so much about the game. It really taught me to not believe/trust any tests from anyone else.
it taught me facts are only facts, once they are proven.
Then the BGS did more of the same, trust no test not done yourself.
Sooo much of the existing BGS info was/is wrong.
Areas tested by hundreds of people, probably thousands. yet sooo many got so much wrong.
Learning how to test things is NOT for everyone.
As a programmer, I tend to apply logic along with my scientific approach.
the game is not so shallow that there is no depth to many things, contrary to so many cmdr's belief's.
my fav ex of this, is the beam laser. it is by no means a simple weapon. most of its features are ignored and undesirable by so many.
It is the one reason I really love combat, this is a B5 Weapon.
It has features that are not measured.
Imperial Hammer is another
both are disliked by many, as in the IH is weak(not even, another multi-featured/function weapon)
the Beam, I always thought all the arguments over it was due to the, 'Tell a Lie and it weakens the opposition if they believe you'
because why arm the opposition well? why tell others about the best features of the most versatile weapon.
same goes for the BGS for supporting Anarchy, why tell people where the real riches are, why tell anyone else how to control Anarchy and why they should?
I got some flak for telling many secrets people did NOT want shared. no bounties for anarchies my foot, this is what I do.

@MrSuction @Jorki Rasalas @cmdr milesred I'll also try the trinkets thing now I've finished shooting up Azimuth stuff, that sounds like a great idea :)

One thing I'd like some help with from people that know more than me. I'm still checking out my Saturn idea (Saturn as the original DW /Raxxla location), and I just can't get over those two missing major moons. I can understand little weird Hyperion (in lore or simply for game design reasons) is gone, maybe mined away or otherwise ejected, I would normally just abandon the idea here.

but I just want to close the investigation into Mimas...

Mimas.jpg

It is listed here in EDDB as @CMDRCorrMorningstarFelian discovered. EDDB says:
"The data which can be found on EDDB is 100% community generated. There is no regular data dump from Frontier. Systems, stations, commodity prices, outfitting or shipyard information - all this information is 100% coming from the actual player base."

So, I assume that Mimas must have shown up for at least one person using EDMC or similar, at some point. The radius according to EDDB (198km) is correct according to the Mimas wiki page. I'm not really any good at determining temperatures of space objects other than "hot or cold" so I don't know if a surface temp of 64k as listed on EDDB is accurate to the IRL version, I assume it should be that cold unless tidally heated or somesuch. There's no mass listed which is odd and suggest bugged data, but there is an image. Is that a generic moon image that EDDB uses, or are they pulled from somewhere? There's also no materials listed as you normally get for landables in EDDB, but it is listed as landable.

Does anyone know anything about this in terms of the functioning of EDMC's community database system? Is this a bug? Did Fdev remove it from the game a while back and it's just stayed on the EDMC's database since then? How could I find out these things?

I have flown many complete loops around the edge of the outer ring where Mimas should be and I can't see anything - testing the idea that it's there physically but not registering on ships systems, but given that it would basically be a pixel in supercruise It would be easy to miss.

It is an SVG so cannot display on forums but ring structure is counterintuitive. The gaps may be hiding the moons. Mind the gaps. Also, moons look like points of light.

I have emailed EDDB for clarification and asked that if possible could they let me know when it was added to the database. Will keep you posted.

Edit - added copy of my email for reference:
Greetings!
The moon Mimas (Sol, Saturn) appears in your lists: https://eddb.io/body/2493462

Yet it doesn't seem to be in-game.

Do you have any information on Mimas in your database that's not shown on the page - the date/time/how it was added?

I'm trying to determine if it's some sort of database error or if it's a hidden moon within the game (for some reason). The size of the body is accurate to the real-world version, but it's lacking some data that would normally be present (mass, materials, etc.)

If you could let me know if Mimas is "real", as in it was actually reported via the automatic tools that link to the game (~EDMC etc), and if possible when it was added to the database, that would be great.

Thanks very much for your time.
Louis.

Or was the EDMC database duped/hacked?
I don't remember Mimas ever being in-game.
🤷‍♂️

However, it seems like a lot of effort for little to zero return. Given how The Dark Wheel is described, I would still put their origins in Sol. Whilst Tau Ceti is an option the political idealists that went with Marlin Duval also passed through that system on the way towards Achenar. My instincts say this may be worth checking. Saturn has really complex rings that could easily mask moon(s) and/or hidden stations.

Ever heard of liminal places?
Sure, but I'm assuming you don't mean the Backrooms and the like? There's a mathematical origin to Liminal places iirc - it means something like "the middle part" where you transition from one place to another place, right?

That's actually a pretty clever interpretation of "place that's not a place" :)

I was really just joking around with the idea that Mimas is both there and not there (kinda like comets!), it's a place that isn't a place. But actually I like the liminal interpretations better, if not practically then poetically :)

It's a great example of how you can go down a rabbit hole really quickly!... hmm, rabbit hole... tunnel to other places.... omphalos rift.... maybe that's a clue!! (good natured, joking).

EDIT so as not to make a new post: WAIT! the witchspace tunnel is a liminal space, it's a place that's not a place... the Dark Wheel toast mentions the whisper in Witchspace and also didn't they say they'd tweaked the whispers in witchspace in a patch a while back?? You know what, that's actually pretty interesting.

In truth, CMDRs are more or less liminal beings. Powerless and yet powerful almost to god-like proportions. We are exist as vagabonds and vagrants rarely settling to one place. We are both the shepards and wolves of humanity. It truthfully isn't as nutty as it first seems that we and the engineers are The Dark Wheel. I mean it would help to find the station but it would be fine if it doesn't actually exist. We already have the palm tree stations that aren't tourist stations (they are noticably different) and those are scattered all over the Bubble. We have the hermit station (a.k.a. asteroid bases). Duality is often an illusion anyway.

I feel pretty comfortable in stating the letter from a friend came from The Dark Wheel itself in all likelihood. Sometimes looking outside of yourself doesn't work nearly as well as introspection.

a response from fdev several pages back..seems relevant
where they use a typo

a placet

another plane such as witchspace

I keep using 'when is a door not a door' to keep me on track..

Placet is very, very intentional. It got mentioned in an official novel but the specific one escapes me at the moment. I have TONS of notes from the books of places known to be in Elite Dangerous based on clues. It is reasonablely close to the Old Worlds. It seems to have been occupied in the past but sits abandoned. I went there and did an FSS scan when I realized I was nearby not long ago. I had no DSS scanner at the time but bookmarked a number of places if for no other reason than bio-signals. I suspect there may be more to that system. I probably won't make it back there for several weeks. The first two planets are really weirdly named: Placet A and Placet B. The whole system seems weird for it's seemingly emptiness and yet there should have been something there. The same bothers me to no end with Jackson's Lighthouse (which was formerly inhabited but destroyed when the neutron star formed) and HIP 15310 (formerly tourism system with really weird ammonia-oxygen worlds).

Looking at NASA's System map Mimas is outside of the ring formation, ive also flown around many times over the past couple of days and its not there.

Its a puzzle.
