I do a lot of engineering. So I've gotten used it to taking 2-3 applications these days to get through grades 2-3, and often 4 applications to get through grade 4 (which is really annoying when that happens), and 3-5 to get (at least mostly) through grade 5.
But either things have changed for...
The addition of raw engineering materials to mission rewards would help cut out a lot of the griping over grinding in the game.
Material grade offered could be linked to mission ranking, and with the traders even getting lower grades of materials that can be traded up could make for a happier...
A simple suggestion: using your discovery scanner should trigger 2 or 3 signal sources every couple of minutes when used. This would help reduce the material grind to something more manageable as currently; looking for High Grade Emissions is probably the most fun-destroying activity in the...
First off... credit to FDev for the change in the materials & data storage system in 3.0, having per-item storage caps and the ability to add materials to an ignore list are great features. However, I have a few suggestions on how this system could be made even better for the serious materials...
o7 CMDRs,
does anyone know if it is a feature of a bug that destroyed ship (CZ) do not drop any materials? Important to say that I am not aligned to any side and do not attack anyone. I just wanted to farm some manufactured materials and thought that CZ would be great for that.
Now that material space is largely a non-issue, there's no longer any need to pick and choose in between which materials you want to take.
Right now, having to target each individual chunk of ore is just an annoying and unnecessary extra step.
A small, but appreciated quality-of-life change...
While searching for proto heat radiators for several hours with a friend, we first thought about how it would be nice if we could trade materials with each other, but figured that would most likely never happen, we thought of a wing sharing materials system.
It could be opt-in, but the basics...
Multicannons are by far the most popular kinetic weapon in Elite, and they're used for the most popular combat activity, which is RES site hunting.
They work fine at any range, don't really overheat your ship, and are in general very safe, forgiving and boring.
A part of its popularity is also...
Engineering Grind vs. Limited Gaming Time: The Farming grind for Engineering Micro-Resources that leads to burnout and ends with players leaving the game.
Note: TLDR Summary... This is a feedback and suggestion thread on the balance between FUN, grind, and the limited spare time that most of...

After watching several Youtube videos regarding Isinor and its Installation (basically 2 pirate gangs fighting each other, one of them wanted) I got the permit and transferred my Corvette in a nearby system.
My 2 complains are:
1) Most of the time, after all of the Gold members are destroyed...
I would like to see the option to make part payment to a chosen technology broker to unlock modules rather than having to wait until all materials are gathered. The system used to unlock engineers would be ideal.
The only issue I would see would be having to record the data for one particular...
(Couldn’t find the suggestion bit, if it still exists.)
I have loads of old modules and weapons in storage.
Rather than just sell them, I thought I’d suggest a system where you can trade in unwanted engineered modules in exchange for materials of your choice, similar to material traders, just...
Hey folks and commanders,
I am currently farming for my G5 Charge Enhanced Power Distributor and I got everything I need in big loads.. except that damn EFCs.
For the past two days I fly around with my Anaconda with passenger cabins or part-time cargo racks.
I am driving around several systems...
I play in a pretty varied way, I travel around, I trade, do missions & explore, I shoot at stuff until it pops then collect the stuff that falls out.
So as far as the new materials & data collection is concerned I have collected a lot of everything, many of my bins are full, I miss the dilemma...
The "infamous" Yamiks have recently puplished their review and it seems that many players agree with what's being said in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iDAdSy6xgY
Personally, I also agree that there should be better exchange rates...
but how will these be implemented?
Simply...
With the new improvements to materials in 3.0, please can the filters be tweaked?
As it stands, in inventory, Data has it's own separate tab. But manufactured and raw are lumped together. Please could they be split out? (Yes I know there's a filter to split raw and material, but then why...
First, please give us a reason to fight the Thargoids. I have been fighting Thargoid scouts in a Chiefain (non-AX weapons) and it is a lot of fun (which is its own intrinsic reward and currently the only reward). I have been doing this in a system overrun with Thargoids with a still-function...
So it’s 3.0 beyond and I thought I’d gather materials for a round of engineering.
I visit a moon with 2.9% arsenic - a very high percentage so after 3 hours of roaming you’d expect a fair amount collected right? Wrong
Just 1 lousy material. Plenty of niobium however.
Anyone else finding...
Just do a selection filter based on grade and you will see that some of the materials have a "wrong" max capacity. Is it "normal" or is it a bug? I also saw a thread just after 3.0 dropped in which some players complained that their over 100 capacity was lost after performing rolls at an...
Problem #1: I found an ancient artifact and rebel transmissions. Since they're illegal, the first thing that comes to mind is to sell them at the black market, but that significantly cuts the profits. Are there specific buyers for these objects?
Problem #2 I keep finding "materials" near space...
So, I think we can all agree that material (mats) collection for engineers is (to put it mildly) sub-optimal, these are the changes that I would like to see implemented.
Addition of manufacturing companies- For all the manufactured mats such as pharmaceutical isolators, hybrid capacitors and...
Now with the addition of 100/100 of each material, I see little need for the Filtering / Ignore list for materials.
Instead I propose that we have a Favorites list.
This can be as simple or as complex as you have time to program.
The basic idea is that you add items to a favorite list...
As a leader of a major player group, I'd like to bring the voice of around 500 people.
The material trader is a much needed step in the right direction towards eliminating a significant portion of the grind with engineers. We really appreciate this, a lot. But I'd like to point out that the...
Thanks to not all of the Elite community being rich enough to get the Horizons expansion on a dime, the game's MMO (not so much MSO) aspects such as Open Play have quickly and obviously become pay-to-play. Due to this, nearly everyone who does not have access to the ability to come into contact...
If you watched the stream of today you saw that they showed off the new system. To make things short.
Forcing us to roll a module 5 times to "complete" rank 1 to progess further to rank 2 is just a waste of time and material as it is waste of time finding all those material.
The materials...
Hi. I've been searching for Imperial Shielding all day. Haven't found a single one. I've searched more than 5 imperial systems with high populations.
Haven't even found a single high grade signal source.
Has something changed recently?
Disclaimers: Yeah, I've taken a break since 1.4 and missed all the "fun"... And I did read that FD has plans to make engineering "more accessible".
So, after way too many google searches, YouTube guides, Reddit guides, planet databases etc, here's what I got out of it so far:
(maybe its...
Ok so searching the planet surfaces for materials is fun for about 30 minutes. Your after a specific item and you always find everything your not looking for.
Let's look at the scanners for a bit of a tune up. Would it be possible to give players the ability to set the scanner to detect...
Alright, I'm on my way back from Arm's End. It takes a great many boosted jumps to get out there, over 31 for less than a 2kly stretch of the 6.5 or so kly of sparse stars. Fortunately, through divine intervention or sheer luck, there also happens to be quite a few Jumponium-rich systems out...
Just came across colonia 3 C A and i have to say that this is a planet where frontier have finally created a material extraction site that makes sense. After landing in a red riverlike area I soon came across a bunch of fiery geysers and pretty soon my scanner started lighting up with an area...
Straight away, Useless Commodities need to be removed. Mine-able metals/minerals are fine, but articulation motors, hn shock, nanobreakers, etc etc need to be removed. they are useless, and are immediately sold for measly Credit amounts after acquired.
currently, missions can't be accepted or...
This subforum seems undervisited at the moment, and I can't help but think it might be influenced by all the sticky threads making it hard to navigate. As much as I like our Tales from the Frontier thread being stickied I do think with the low activity of the book threads they should lose their...
