Yep, that's why it's encouraged to pick up occupied escape pods and sell them at the nearest station. What happens is that the station authorities call up the insurance company identified on the pod and pass along the fee that the pod was sold for. The insurance takes care to return the pilot back to the last known recorded station visited and does the rest. Meanwhile the pilot has been put in hibernation by the pod's mechanisms the whole time and wakes up back in his replaced ship with the hefty insurance premium and fees remitted and a headache, lol.
