4.0 | Now Live

Double costs, need to maintain two games, etc ... imo it is one from the worst decisions they could make.
Simply EOL EDH and shut down it's servers as it is an old game then with EDO as the new game.

Cross-game save compatibility is a feature used in some games that feature sequels.

I usually tend to agree with your opinions, but here I don't. Frontier's main interest imo could (should) be making money and they therefore may have different opinion how to look on players which decided not to buy new DLC (Odyssey). Effect on current Odyssey players is imo kind of collateral damage. Looks not fair, yes, but ... I myself spent on this game numerous times more as is price of base game+Odyssey and not on one account, so I want that this game is working for long time, is working better, have improved look and feel more complex with much more ties between ships and on foot play ... and to be brutally honest with my view, imo Odyssey is future of this game, not Horizons. Therefore I understand that Frontier want to keep kind of pressure on players to buy and enage in new DLC (Odyssey) and do not let them comfortably without any obstacles stay with Horizons which code will sooner or later become obsolete. I really would like that story of ED will move also to "foot", and this clearly is delayed due the need to maintain also "old" content. Frontier did certain decision, it may work for them good or bad, but they definitelly had rational reason(s) (looking on things from their position) why they have decided so.

I like this game, I play it a lot, in part because I am well aware that one day the servers will be switched off & I may no longer be able to play.

There are several ways a player can contribute to the game & FDev that will help keep the lights on. Buy ARX, buy new accounts & getting others to buy new accounts.

If one already owns the game & continues to play, you are part of the product FDev is selling; you represent a potential ally or competition for others to be motivated & have their actions and choices influenced by.
I represent a force to be opposed, competed against or even helped, a reason or inspiration for others to play, help for those that seem to need it, challenge for those that seem to find it all too easy, in turn (hopefully) drawing yet more players to the game.

There's more than one way to support the game.

No idea why anyone would actually want to play old versions of games though, besides curiosity.

I keep thinking, all these people demanding 4.0 Horizons ... would never actually play it.
So let's say Odyssey is a Lamborghini and you want to go for a ride with your mate, but the door only unlocks if they also have a Lamborghini. So you call Lamborghini and say "wth!? I want to go for a ride with my mate, open the door!" And their response is, "Sorry, we can't let your mates who don't own a Lamborghini ride in one. If you guys want to ride together you'll need to take the Corolla". For those who don't have friends in this game, you're right it's Lamborghini all the way.

Understood. So how do I get rid of Odyssey?
You can’t it is a permanent feature of your computer from now on. Unless you are still in Steams short refund window.

Creating another account on a different email address with the cheapest sale version of Horizons obviously is unacceptable as that wouldn’t be the right commander.

I have opened a ticket to see if they can refund me Odyssey on my other account, or if they can just remove it, they can keep the refund.. I will see how that goes.

Fdev would probably get a court date for that. Steam and Frontier are still selling EDH right now. So I don't think the base game (EDH 3.8) is going away anytime soon. Once FDev/Steam no longer sell the Base game and a 4.0 client is the base game then EDH 3.8 days are numbered.

They're also still selling EDH for full price on Xbox, so they'd need to pull those games first or find an offline mode.

Except I think it can be more like this
Odyssey = Lamborghini with all the Horse Power unlocked
Horizon 4.0 = Lamborghini with a limiter that caps 50% of the Horse power
Horizon 3.8 = Corolla

So the difference here is that I already own the Lamborghini with the unlocked horse power, Why can I not have a nice little option to turn on and off the horse power limiter to hang with my other friends?

That Lamborgini is on sale right now ;)

Nope, no download if you already installed Horizons 4.0.
Once you purchase Odyssey on that account, the launcher will remove the Horizons 4.0 entry from your launcher and replace it with Odyssey
Yes, that was my exact experience. Thanks.

Performance issues* aside, I had a blast in the opening on-foot demo and then touring a Fleet Carrier interior, and landing at a station and buying my Artemis suit. Logged a first foot-fall along the way, too.

*The performance issues are my own low spec PC problem. I may upgrade the PC, not sure. Elite is really the only PC game I play anymore, so I struggle to justify a hardware purchase that's otherwise an insta-buy decision for more committed PC gamers. I'll log some hours before I decide.

Thanks again to Frontier for the 4.0 preview/demo. It sold me Odyssey.

Check your GFX options, the game's default values are more often than not a bit off...
Drop the gfx setting to medium or so, and see if the things get better

I am not going to try to pressure people into buying it esp as imo their concerns are justified. to each their own.

I'm not pressuring anyone, but the common sense tells me that if i want to play this game next year too, and maybe even longer, i might as well support the developer instead of going the freeloading path. 🤷‍♂️

but again, no pressure, to each their own, as you said.

For my newly migrated XB commander, the solution was obvious - get Odyssey for that account too - and i did last night when i found out it's discounted on the Frontier Store.
After all, it's as cheap as a movie ticket + popcorn&soda with the difference that at the movies i spend that kind of money for 2-3h while my XB account might get another 1000+ hours in Odyssey

I think you need to give your head a wobble mate, calling people freeloaders because they choose not to follow your chosen path.
You read these forums, you post plenty, you know full well there are many people who simply dont like different aspects of Odyssey.
Im sure the freeloaders have seen these post and thought, you what, im not gonna buy Odyssey because of Xs post or Y said this, I dont fancy that in my game!
Damn freeloaders making free choices, gosh darn it!

Apparently, the original intent of offering a 4.0 version was to allow everyone the ability to fully experience the Thargoid invasion. I'm wondering if Frontier even considered how badly Horizons 4.0 would complicate cross-play.
