What is needed is a livestream Aisling version of the NPC Tik Tok trend.

Five stock phrases and Aisling doing funny faces in response to audience prompts = views.

Monetize that and....well, you'll need a bulldozer for the money coming your way.

@Rubbernuke
Back in the day they always chose the middle which appeased no-one.
Now, that they've set a course, do you think it has closed or opened doors?
We wouldn't even be here if they didn't make the thargoids something to be feared.
They would just be a farming utensil and nothing would have changed.

FD really got it wrong almost from the first minute- if they had held to the Open / single player split galaxy, kept money actually useful, not gone crazy with engineering etc you'd have a much tighter game with much more of an identity.

I get they had to make a choice, but the choices were destructive rather than keeping options open.

For example: FD got engineering right first time in late 1.X times with tweaked modules (akin to PP modules). If FD had just added more of these, so much of the game would be better- engineers could then be tech brokers all over, no / far far less grind, no system bottlenecks, balance intact, no need for ATR and constant BGS tweaks for murder.

Or, not supporting PP when they knew it was released broken. Instead they waited for eight years and now at the end it might get love.....but far too late.

I could go on forever about FCs, BGS, ships, credits, POIs......but its too hot and it makes me sad.

Aisling Cosplayer joins stream...

I like your idea...
Blue hair, crazy look in the eye and watch 2000 turn into 20,000 viewers. Admittedly your brain would wither but what else do you spend those Twitch stream reward coin things on?

[...] Black Desert Online, which released the same year as ED. The game still has so much new going regularly and vastly improved QoL that the player numbers are currently on the rise despite summer [...]
Not certain about this, but I do believe BDO does advertise on YouTube.

Other then for the release of DLCs like Horizons or Odyssey I haven't seen advertisements for Elite at all.
It's like they, for better or for worse, don't quite care about Elite in that way and prefer organic word-of-mouth... with all it's ups and downs.

Yes, BDO has it's own Youtube Channel, the main platform is Twitch though, with major roadmap streams once or twice a year. The last was last month, and they announced an unusual lot of new stuff for the next two months, even for their standards. And it's a well rounded package, with new features for all player types that play the game.

A couple of brief comments on a coupl eof big points in D2EAs vid;

Totally agree that the effort being devoted to the Thargoid war is disproportionate. The other game roles do need fleshing out more and TLC, and longstanding bugs/rough edges resolved. The last update bigged up QoL updates. In reality there was one major general fix (that took way too long in any case) and a couple of othe minor general fixes, along with MANY other narrative related fixes - The issue tracker is part of the problem (but that is going off topic...). What I have said there could be fleshed out into many points, but I'll leave this simple.

I disagree wth mch that was said about FCs - nothing should be done that makes them better than flying a ship. Also the startup/spooldowntimes are there for behind the scenes server synchronisation reasons. They look right to me from a tech viewpoont, and acceptable from a balance viewpoint. The one thing I would adust is improving mining yield for Trit.

the truth is he probably doesn't want to forego the ad revenue, but is completely burned out on the game.
Pretty sure he said he’d turned off all ads on his videos. Unless I missed a statement on the reversal of that decision, any ads that you do see on his videos are YouTube’s fault because they can go “F off, here’s ads on the video anyway even though you turned them off. And let’s add our middle finger to it as well.”… I know this because another person that turns off ads on a specific type of video had to explain this in said videos once, due to receiving complaints from people still seeing ads.

Not-so-funnily, this is exactly what they are currently serving as. A little too literally.

Okay, so three cheers for that (y) . I don't see any ads ever because mumble mumble adblocker mumble.

Imo Frontier needs first finish circle with Thargoid war ... i.e. give players a way how to defeat maelstrooms (I expect it will lead to creation of new ones). It also except other things means that galaxy will be possible fundamentally and regularly changing on smaller and also bigger scale (and this in more as in one direction) and hopefully will grant players ability to really expand into galaxy. Which finally may allow use main potencial (and completelly unique) which game like ED have ... its huge universe.

No, the spool up time seems the important one because it needs to advertise then to sync the new carrier position in the galaxy
If you watch the process, 10 minutes before jump your carrier already gets a POI at the destination system.

Probably they could decrease the spool up time a bit (maybe to 10 minutes), but doing so would increase the risk of desyncs. So they kept it safe to 15 minutes spool-up and 5 minutes post-jump cleanup
I think you're right about the spool up time. I prefer it this way, anyway.

I think the characterisation of the video in the OP being pushed out merely as a means of selfishly chasing clout is a grossly unfair one. D2EA has produced a number of resources that I've found useful as a player of Elite Dangerous, including a guide to the Guardian sites and a no-engineering Type-9 laser mining build that not only got me to engage with the mining part of the game, but which I've also since modified to more closely fit my play style. My impression is that he made the video because he cares about a game he's put effort into.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for more focus on other areas of the game. Since I started playing in September 2022, pretty much all of the updates since have been focused on AX combat, which is a highly specialised subset of PvE combat, itself but one facet in a broader game. When I first looked into it, I was disappointed to learn that meaningful participation in AX combat requires the use of a relatively small selection of weapons and modules, forcing players to use a much more limited range of ship builds, and seemingly imposing the same kind of narrow meta nonsense that makes PvP unattractive. Now personally I still consider myself to be in the discovery phase of playing this game, but this game has been around long enough that such beginnings are going to be long over for many players. Now maybe FDev have the metrics which prove that AX combat is a big draw in this game, but without them confirming it's just speculation, and any others players who don't engage in AX might feel left out, perhaps justifiably, perhaps not, FDev are remaining their usual taciturn selves on this.

New ships would be a good example of an addition that would have a broad appeal to the player base as a whole, I don't see how anyone can reasonably argue against that. D2EA suggests new multi-role vessels, but I think a better approach would be specialised ships that cover the three most basic competencies of the game; Trade, Exploration, and Combat. I would suggest the Panther Clipper and Thargoid-Human hybrid vessels for exploration and combat.

From the sounds of it, D2EA might not be completely aware of the technical reasons behind the 15 minute delay between plotting an FC jump and it actually happening. I myself was vaguely aware that there was something like that going on, but I had no idea that said technical reasons are why 15 minutes is as good as it's going to get, and that it's also why the the 15 minute wait comes before the jump rather than afterwards.

I know that FDev is generally opposed to automation, but having just made my first deep space jaunt with my own FC last weekend, I agree that it's a pain in the neck that we can't plot a series of jumps. Even if nothing else was changed about FCs including cooldown periods, being able to plot multiple jumps at once would be a worthwhile QoL change for Fleet Carriers.

Nobody said D2EA pushed only crap content (although i generally dislike gold-digging guides)
However, this one looks like the proverbial stuff that tends to hit the fan

🤷‍♂️
Some people like the current streams, so I'm not asking for them to be canceled, but I wouldn't mourn the current format were it to stop.

If the stream was only about actual news and dev interviews, I'd gladly watch it. If that meant it would only be 15m, so what?

But having to watch the exact same two hours again and again in hopes of finding a minute of news has gotten too tiresome for me.
Yep, I haven't watched them for some time for much the same reasons.
