A One Ship Commander

And not to be completely offtopic:
Small ships: C3 as an all-arounder, Viper Mk4 if combat tips the balance, Dolphin for the ones less interested in combat.
Mediums: Krait Mk2 and to a less extent Python.
Large: Cutter

As far as I know any online gaming on consoles requires a single subscription to the console's services. That's not a cost specific to Elite, if you game online on a console you'll already be paying it regardless of whether you own and play Elite or not. There's no additional cost to create multiple Elite accounts over and above that cost, which is not directly linked to the game.

As I said though, that's my understanding; I don't own a PS4 so happy to be proved wrong if that's the case.

Ok, cool. That's how I was understanding it to, and as a PC player I can't see that as anything other than an 'extra' cost, but further discussion that way is beyond the scope of this thread's subject, I feel.

Back on track - anyone else having a go at 'One CMDR, one ship', and if so, what're you using?

Also repped for Glayva, haven't had that in years. Naughty stuff that.

Heh, cheers! Me either, was in the supermarket on the 23rd, snagging the inevitable last minute/forgotten items, and saw it was discounted. Oooohhhh, its been a while, and it is a pleasant drink, whyever not?'. I'm pacing myself, but we're down to 1/2 the bottle already...

I've only ever heard/read bad things about it, so Imma have to take your word on that

It doesn't seem so bad yet, but I've hardly done anything with it.

I don't have access to the CIV on that particular account, otherwise it would have been a strong contender o_O
Many people on this forum call anything that isn't "Top 1%" a bad ship, as there are a lot of meta-gamers here.

I'm not a meta-gamer. I just don't care. Most people who chase the meta will never be "gud" anyway.

Myself I just roll with that fact, rather than feverishly insist "I'm teh bestest."

Result? I have the choice of all the ships, instead of just one or two meta-options, and frankly, it's way more fun.

I play D&D/SP RPGs the same way. Not meta, but an interesting character. Flaws actually make it fun.

Which is why the FDL is so bloody boring. In normal space and guns deployed, it basically has no flaws.

YAWN

I keep eyeing the bottle of Benedictine that I have sat in the corner but part of my brain knows that way lies trouble :D

Anyway as you say, back to the topic.

When I got my Clipper a few years ago I just didn't bother with any other ship, if I couldn't go there or land there in the clipper I simply wouldn't bother going or doing it (whatever 'it' was), so I guess I've been a one ship kinda guy for a while... and yes it's feasible, and for those that swing that way it's good

You have inspired me to take my FDL to Colonia.
Has anyone stripped an FDL down to the bone, what's the max jump range ?

I threw one together on coriolis a few months ago, here short answer is about 30LY, which is pretty much what my pre-engineering Asp had. You're not doing much out on the galactic rim in that but it's fine for anything else.

Edit: For anybody reading this, as pointed out below I saved it before adding the FSD engineering because, well because derp.

Thanks for that, might just give this a try on an alt account given the Christmas sale is on.

43LY. You missed the FSD engineering :)

I've been exploring in an FDL, it's not too bad at it.

Boy is my face red 😂 I must have saved it before I did that lol, I thought when I looked at it 'that seems low'. Good catch. I blame the booze.

I took a terrible, non-engineered B spec FDL from Colonia to the World of Death (dramatic music!) which is a landable planet that orbits partly inside the exclusion zone of a white dwarf about 600LY from Colonia. The FDL is so nice to fly that I really didn't care about the absurd number of jumps it took compared to my 75LY Anaconda.

See above for my howler :D Don't forget the FSD engineering lol.

My alt account has a couple of small/medium ships, namely a DBX, Dolphin and Viper MkIV but I tend to stick to the Viper MkIV as much as possible as it’s quite good at everything but nowhere near good enough at anything to make life easy. I love this play style but I have my main to go to when I want to do anything at anytime.

I landed in Colonia just before Christmas to unlock the engineers there all in my MkIV. My only gripe with it, well it and the MkIII...or more pertinently with FD, is the inability to spruce up the interior a bit. I can buy a used car and respray the interior but I can’t do anything about the manky old HUD setup in my MKIV....weird when it’s my pride and joy.

I sorta did this in my second cmdr account, I decided to go to Colonia way back when it first became a thing, before engineers or the Neutron highway, not knowing what ship parts could be bought out there in the black i kitted out my Python and set off with a mere 15 ly jump range.

Needless to say it took ages but I enjoyed the trip and I felt like a true Pioneering adventurer with plenty of role playing going on in my head, if I could only have one ship it would be the Python.

For some reason this post has only just popped up in this thread for me, some 50 mins after it was posted. Odd.

That oddity observed...

Easy Tiger, I'm far from a meta-gamer myself (in any gaming field, much like yourself), perhaps has something to with choosing the Asp Scout for this purpose. Perhaps I'll find it is much better than I've been led to believe.

Maybe I'll find it to be as awful as the internet (I have canvased further afield than these official fora), and maybe I'll enjoy it anyway, should that be so.

I mean, I like the Adder, Hauler and Keelback!

Maybe I'll hate it afterall. I never much cared for the Asp X, despite it once being the 'must have' ship.

The fun will be in the finding out

Power management on my Eagle is challenging - I have to turn off the FSD in order to use my weapons. This isn't that big a deal since I can't charge FSD while hard points are deployed anyway, but it does add time before I can spool up the FSD if I'm in a hurry. So basically if I'm committed to combat in my Eagle, I'm there till the end. Thankfully my rebuy is cheaper than fixing scratched paint on the infamous FDL.

Python. If i was stuck with only one ship, it would be a Python, or maybe a Krait MkII if I felt I had to have an SLF on board. You can do it all decently well with one of those two ships.

See if you can find an old key from a dodgy key site or buy from frontier directly (i imagine) to get a second account.

There's only one thing that could spoil this combat. If what you're doing is going to result in frequent interdiction, if you choose the wrong ship you're going to be practically 100% run or avoid, which is a miserable experience. That's the only thing I can think of to be aware of.. make sure the spawns for your ship are manageable to your liking, or do engineering if you need to to enable some basic fun there. If not prepare yourself for 100 running away at every test... crap.

Or just go with a large ship.

Also from experience stuff like this is certainly best left to an alt account to avoid the temptation of cheating or having to dismiss the experience as pointless when the going gets tough.. because on a full account you can fix the problem and are being dumb in not doing so.

Rping is fine and good until you are genuinely challenged by your circumstance.
