Alec's best of the forum (and elsewhere) [v2]

But spoilers are one of the reasons I come to the forums and specifically this thread. ;)

For me this thread is as essential a tool as Inara and EDDB.io are for my play time with Elite.

WOW - now that's high praise indeed, really chuffed to hear you say that - thanks! I guess I'll keep doing it for a while longer yet then. :D

P.S. re: the spoilers thing - I'm always a bit wary quite so soon after an update about inadvertantly giving people a single click that could reveal stuff they don't want to see so felt a quick warning was worth including. On which subject, this flippin' thing is actually animated! (how cool is that!!)

Need to find one I can get closer to (drat - should have made a landscape version) so I can create an animated GIF.

P.S. AND the cone sector is now full of Hydra AND everyone is gonna be stuck in there for 4 weeks ... LOL, this is gonna be hilarious! [haha]

Trending: The Hutton Truckers are cycling up a volcano + new Iridescent paint jobs! (WARNING - these links could cost you a fortune and only one of them is for a good cause - if you're going to buy some paintjobs can I suggest you assuage your crippling guilt by donating at least the same amount to the Truckers).

Trending: well ... by every definition of "trending" (at its peak on Friday there were over 7000 people viewing it) there's only one forum thread I ought to mention, so I won't 'cos we're probably all thoroughly depressed by it by now. Instead I'd like to highlight a new planetary circumnavigation by straha20 who's been writing a really excellent forum thread to document his journey.

o7 commanders!

Trending: The power of the video gaming community + "Respecting your time. Docking re-prioritized" and other amusing comms.

Edit: also - added Barking Mad's "Patch Notes List" to the "useful reference lists" section (man this website is good!)

Edit: also Trending - another wonderful ED "subtleties" thread.

Trending: THAT Gnosis jump + added andysonofblob's really brilliant "Eliminate the Grind" video series to the "manuals, guides and other stuff for new players" section.

I seems like a good time to remind people about the following link next to Frontier posts on forum threads ...

Clicking this will step you through each of the official Frontier posts in the current thread. In addition there's a similar Frontier icon at the top of any given thread which shows you whether or not that thread actually contains any official Frontier posts and clicking that one will take you to the first post.

I just wanted to highlight two threads which I've already showcased here before but which are worthy of further mention, especially in these troubling times of doom and gloom.

First there's andysonofbob's truly wonderful "Eliminate the Grind" videos, reminiscent of the inspirational Isinona, which remind us how to have fun using small ships and Flight Assist Off to really get the most from what is still (despite recent events) a really wonderful game.

And then there's the ongoing adventures of straha20 who's circumnavigating the surface of Phrae Flyou JN-S e4-382 2 g a in an SRV.
Currently the best thread on the forum imho.

Good shout-out, I'll add that. I couldn't immediately see on the website tho' - who created all those guides? (was it you?)

Looks like it's Cmdr Various!

I saw:
Elite Dangerous Exploration Ship Builds Guide by Kantrh
Elite Dangerous Galactic Politics Guide by xhrit

for the two I looked at.

There is a xhrit on the ED forums but they haven't been active for a while.

I've added a link in the "youtube channels, podcasts, etc" section to Allen Stroud's forum thread about "Lave Revolution" (a full cast Elite Dangerous audio drama now available at the radio theatre workshop). Apologies for not doing this much sooner, I spotted the thread and then promptly forgot. I'll be grabbing a copy of this myself shortly.

While I'm at it, can I also heartily recommend the "Escape Veolcity" series of audio dramas which I'm currently re-listening too and which are just brilliant. This too is linked in the "youtube channels, podcasts, etc" section.
