Duh. Really. And the new mechanics will make it so much better. I'm hoping that's what the next big update is.

Max, you're still confusing 'your' chosen playstyle with that of other people, you may only see credits and badges but there are other people with other desires, how many pictures do you see posted here on the forums of Earthlike planets, Water Worlds, Ammonia Worlds, none of those can we land on (as yet) Potato shaped worlds, twin worlds with atmospheres that won't allow us to penetrate, pictures of ships flying through the rings of worlds they cannot visit, there are reasons beyond any that I can think of that many players might have to visit a location, there doesn't have to be a point that's acceptable to Max Factor for a player to enjoy a particular aspect of the game, I personally deplore combat in ED but were Frontier Developments to take a stand in it's removal I would post in defence anyone's right to enjoy that aspect of the game.
Nothing to do with my chosen playstyle. All that you have mentioned is still available in the game. The FSS does not stop that and never has.
I'm not offended, as I genuinely want to know (and still don't). While I love the new FSS and personally have no need for the ADS (nor do I want the FSS acting like the ADS), there are things about the new exploration system that I do not like. This whole "you discovered a planet by just driving through the neighborhood" is rubbish IMO. I can't just fly through a HazRes and watch all the ships close to me explode with no effort on my part, so why is discovery different in this regard? Even something as benign as fuel scooping requires more effort! Point being is that I'm neither Republican no Democrat when it comes to exploration - I'm Independent, and that means I tend to fit somewhere in the middle of what seems to be a very divisive debate.

Some of us like to Explore in an 'All or Nothing' fashion, so when we get given that badge of 'first discovery' simply because we Honked in the 'neighbourhood' we may feel compelled to finish it off or leave the dreaded 'Snail Trail' of half scanned systems that we so dislike that I alluded to in an earlier post.
Yes Max, I understand those things are still in the game, you are the one that seems to be denying their relevance, you were the one that indicated if no badges or cash were forthcoming then there was no point in visiting... I merely pointed out that other people have different desires than you!

I must admit there is this weird irony of Frontier removing the optional ADS and replacing it with a bunch of different size-1 "assist" modules (and slots). Even the idea that the FSS (a space telescope) is built into every ship but autopilot isn't is weird. I would actually prefer it it were the other way around, especially now that we have new slots. I'd be totally okay, even happy, if the FSS was an optional module and if the ADS were brought back as a separate optional module. The current system really is weird...

If they were mutually exclusive or changed to work with the FSS in some way, then no I wouldn't have an issue, but you know this already.
Agreed. I still don't get why the auto cruise and autodock take up so much space.
That's not dismissing your personal reasons. I was talking about in-game. That information you got in the scan doesn't do anything.
Max it doesn't NEED to do anything... it tells you it's there and you make up your own mind if you wan't go visit... even if it pays nothing
The module proposed would just disclose the location and allow the CMDR to either near body scan or FSS scan the bodies in question in accordance with their preferred approach (the former notionally being faster if you don't plan to fly out to them).
The module proposed by this thread would disclose no information of tangible value - just operational value, i.e. allowing the player to use near body flyby scanning to get the same information they would get from a long range FSS scan. Nothing really new needs to be implemented to allow the near body flyby scanning since it is already a mechanic that is in the game. The level of topological map information to be revealed by the Honk with the module fitted would be the same as that for systems that have already been registered as explored.
The difference is that the player is not FORCED to use the FSS, the option to use it should still be present. The information disclosed by the FSS is (in the main) the same as that disclosed by the legacy ADS and current near body/signal scans - using near body scans to explore is a matter of preference, for some it feels more immersive than the FSS ever will without a complete rework from scratch.

Well sinse you think you are on to something you can make issue from let me offer an example. As already said some people prefer not to discover or to discover all, i understand that. Imagine you have come to a system with 10 planets and 6 of them have names on them, all the names are different. You take one for yourself, the next in line and you leave the rest alone. Why? I dont know thats just how it is.
Which is the issue. What the point in searching for something in the FSS when you already have the pinpoint coordinates. It makes no sense.
Precise locations are of massive value.
As I have said, I am open to a Mutually exclusive old style ADS or a modified BDS/IDS/ADS which can work with the FSS or without.
Whos idea i wonder, was it to steal the old ADS module out of everybodys ship? It comes over as very short sighted or uncaring even not to realise that somebody who was months into an epic journey was going to get upset to log in one day and find their ship had been altered and without their permission. Supposedly professional game developers should have known not to do something like that. The whole thing was done in a very hostile fashion towards anybody that wasnt activly complaining about having to fly too far. As my signature says, why are PvPers allowed to keep their legacy modules that do offer ceratin advantages that cant now be gained by other players and yet explorers are simply expected to lump it. I saw another thread on here talking about how PvPers get put first and above everybody else and it looks true to me. It shouldnt be that way and its now become a detriment to the quality of the game. Poor show all round really.
When they decided to remove the ADS as a module, there was no old ADS. That had already been removed. It has nothing to do with PvPers. That is just stupid.
