Fiction An Official Elite: Dangerous novel, by T. James. "Out of the Darkness".

Another Elite book onto my reading list! Downloaded and going into my Kindle..

...Now, I'll only have to get around to reading them all (sort of burned myself out with sci-fi for the time being, so I've been relaxing with other genres).

Hope you enjoy it when you get there. :)

Took a peak about 6 hours ago, battery died on the android at 40% complete, so I had to stop reading. Damn good story! Moira's one badass lady! After some sleep I'll get back to it.

Is it still possible to purchase a copy?

I thought I'd pledged in the KS for this, but my KS says no (and TBH with house renovations forgot about it)

Even just an E-PUB is fine for me :s

If you're wondering why not everyone is downloading yet...
I am waiting for e_pub to be ready to read on my Android device with Aldiko bookreader.
(And I've got 4 more Fantastic Books publications waiting in line ;) )

Me 2 (well I'm reading my last ED book on aldiko)

However TJ, have you though about publishing on Smashwords? I think you can set your book price on there, and send out Epubs.

Apologies for the wait, but unfortunately, there is no easy fix for getting epubs looking professional.

Smashwords Meatgrinder (I'm not joking, that's its official name!) conversion software does what it says: chews the text. It's not just pretty-pretty either; I've seen bad conversions and it seriously affects the readability.

I'm not prepared to inflict that on backers or anyone who's paid good money for the book - you deserve a quality product and manual proofreading and editing the HTML source (after Calibre conversion, the best of SIX programs I tried) is the only way to get it.

The epub is coming, but to use the well worn phrase: it'll be done when it's done.

Cheers,

TJ.

That's fair enough, at least you've looked into it, it's good to know :) I'm buying kindle edition anyway but e-pub would have been nicer.

It's reader reviews like this that make all the hard work worthwhile - thank you for the feedback; reading it made my day. :)

If you have time, would you mind spreading the word about The Cult of Elite to strange, far-flung lands like Amazon by cut-and-pasting the above review and adding a number of stars of your choosing?

If not, it doesn't matter - I'll still be smiling for quite a while; you popped my reader-review cherry. ;)

I know how hard writing a decent novel is and how much effort goes into it as I've attempted plenty myself but never actually finished! As for the Amazon review... not a problem, done.

Are you not using Sigil and Callibre?

Sigil produces the epub from a filtered html document in Microsoft Word. Callibre then converts this to a mobi file.

However, I would strongly recommend anyone attempting ebook publication to have a working knowledge of HTML. Without it you are stuffed if you run into problems.

Book thread! Not the place for a discussion on the pitfalls of HTML. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions - so far things are looking good. I'll PM/email if I get stuck.

Cheers,

TJ.

Epub progress.

Proofreading: 36%. Editing to follow. Estimated completion time: 1-3 weeks.

I'm still waiting on a reply from a potential distributor. Will chase next week.

Apologies for those backers/readers wanting the epub version. My choice was to delay all formats by another month, or release Kindle and PDF early because they were much easier to convert...

I'm working on this exclusively at the moment and no, I'm not playing the beta!

Cheers,

TJ.

Finished. What a good story! I really can't say much as it would be spoilers but, Jane, I think I love you :p

I'll let you guys figure it out :D

It's great you enjoyed it. I was aiming for Jane to almost be a character - the relationship between a player and their ship in-game can become strangely personal, and I wanted the story to reflect that in some way.

Hi TJ. Just finished the book and I am so glad I backed it, not just because it gets my name into eprint, but because it is a cracking story.

I must admit, I did like Jane and your comment above that you wanted her to be a character - in my opinion you succeeded in managing that.

Thank you very much. I've been hoping backers would enjoy the story and it's great to hear another one did. :)
