Fiction An Official Elite: Dangerous novel, by T. James. "Out of the Darkness".

Downloaded and bought. This is one I really wished I'd backed.

Really looking forward to reading it, but I promised Stuart Aken I'd read his two books before moving on to others, and you released your book the day after I started reading Joinings!

Typical.

Thanks, Dave. The vote of confidence is very much appreciated. I don't mind being in a queue - it's just nice to know that people will be reading the book eventually. I'm way behind on Elite reading too, what with proofing and editing over the last few months.

All the best for the final stages of the RPG - should be a corker with all the work you've put in.

Cheers,

TJ.

Another winner in the Elite fiction stable. We really are very fortunate to have had so many excellent books to read.

I finished this one a few days ago. If you haven't picked it up yet - do it! :)

Can't wait, the freedom to read it when i like on what i like is the only thing that's stopped me reading this one yet. :D

The multi-format ebook is available from Fantastic Books Publishing online store now. The paperback is still in the proofing stage and will be a little while yet.

Cheers,

TJ.

that's great news, it would be excellent news if i could get the store to work :(

i cant get past the 'Your billing/contact details' page :(

sent a message to Dan about it, hopefully its not a major problem.

Edit: sorted, it messes up if you use the tick box for billing/delivery address, you have to fill it in manually

Glad you got it working. Hopefully Dan will be able to iron out the problem for any future buyers. Thanks for reading.

All the best,

TJ.

I want this as paperback so please hurry :)

Will there also be an audiobook version of it ?

Paperback: I'm working on it. Proofing means waiting for physical copies through the post and reviewing every page, as well as re-doing the cover for the new dimensions. It's an involved project and one I'm pushing ahead with, but it's inherently more complex than producing an ebook.

Audiobook: I've already made enquiries about this, but it's a massive undertaking and I've yet to find anyone willing to take this on. I have one potential line of enquiry left, but I won't be investigating this until after the paperback is completed. I'm also going to see if there is sufficient demand.

Cheers,

TJ.

Here's the current blurb:

Moira Dolan, an investigator for The Proteus Collective, is forced to take on a dead-end case. How did an elite pilot, his family and their ship disappear in a well-policed star system? With so few leads, it seems her boss wants her to fail.

And where is her loser brother, Keagan? Torn between her only family and last chance for a career, her journey between the stars reveals more of herself than she ever wanted to know.

As the pieces fall into place, Moira and some new-found allies uncover a conspiracy: mankind is no longer the galaxy’s apex predator, and a plot to destabilise human space could cost of millions of lives…

Thoughts? :D :S :( ?

A brief summary of other news can be found here: http://outofthedarkness.info/blog/what-is-out-of-the-darkness-about-and-other-news/

I like it. But, then I liked the book too so I may be biased.

Always good to hear someone else enjoyed the story. The blurb's been amended, but broadly the same version has made it to the eBook description and will turn up on the forthcoming paperback.

Is it going to be paperback only, i.e. no hardback edition?

At this stage, I'm afraid so. The book is being released through Createspace, one of the major routes for indie writers to self-publish in a physical format. They only offer paperback as an option.

I might consider hardback in the future, but that depends on there being sufficient demand.

Cheers,

TJ.

Thanks goes out to T. James for his awesome support of The Elite Archives Book kickstarter which is currently running.

T. James kindly agreed to sign a number of copies of OUT OF THE DARKNESS, as well as post cards of the cover and even a few A3 posters. We have been able to offer these as part of some limited rewards in the kickstarter.

Good luck with the funding: the Archives should be part of every fan's collection. :)

Paperback: The latest news

Finally, some progress. After wrestling with several software packages to get the presentation I want and I feel you deserve as a (potential) paying reader, I was helped out by a great friend of mine, Matthew Adams, who kindly processed the file for me using Adobe's (very expensive) program.

The digital proof looks clean and I'm happy with the way it's turned out. Now I'm waiting for the physical books to do a last check through before publication. It'll be a few more weeks for delivery and proofing I'm afraid, but be assured: the paperback IS on the way.
