Any teamwork driven CMDRs in Valheim?

Do people think it's worth making large bases with moats & walls? I've gone down the other road of having lots of small outposts (some are just a workbench and portal). I have a couple of more developed hubs, but only one of them has bothered with a wall. I've had a couple of troll events, one I drove off, the other I just went elsewhere until it finished and when I came back things were mostly standing.

I know that if I did put all that effort in I would then find a new resource that would make me move again :)

Sunken Crypts are going better now - the combination of sausages & enough anti-poison potions, with a bit of judicious hoe-ing makes the swamps not too bad, and I finally found a swamp with more than 1 crypt. Plus unlocking the abyssal harpoon makes leeches more useful 😈
Moat is best against most raids. With exception of trolls maybe. Depends on your building spacing. How do you handle storage? I guess I hoard too much.
I have a suspicion that smaller is better. Thought about moving to the coast - since I need sea access anyway. And it seemed like a pain. Though it's just one trip with the cart and the metals. Rest would be potalled.
Or go full raider and hop from world to world accumulating gear.

We built 3 bases next to each other (2 of them have grown together, with shared storage and crafting areas, a moat, stone walls, nice harbour area). We have loads of smaller bases all over the map, where we collect materials and transport them via portals where possible. Metals we either process directly into moveable items or accumulate and transport via ship.

Two days ago we shipped 13 stacks of iron-ore to our main base. Suddenly iron is not a problem anymore. They were a bit afraid of sea serpents, even though they are not so tough when you are not on your own.

A couple of comments:

1) This is the first game where I don't want to look up any tutorials or how-tos beyond the beginner/noob ones that were essential to survival. This seems to put me at a disadvantage for sure as some of the methods for development in this game are... odd hehe But by and large, it is an organic process of discovery and progress. I love it although I feel I cracked open Pandora's Wiki when I went and looked up sunken crypts lol Must... resist... knowing... everything...

2) I like how this post turned into a sort of unofficial Valheim forum. Some questions, some answers, some pics, some salt and rage... I love it. I really, REALLY like hearing how things are going in other CMDRs 10th realm. Please don't stop 👍

Looking at the amount of effort and time it took to get the meagre results from a sunken crypt I can't say it's really worth it. I don't understand why they suddenly block the progress this hard. The game until now was pretty straightforward. I do enjoy shipsailing very much - I just don't want to do it for every piece of iron I want to acquire. And everything costs now double the amount of a resource that is harder to find than anything else.

Sailing in a storm, my son is the skipper, I'm a passenger, sitting on a bench. My world running on my computer.

Don't know of the game puked, or a rogue wave can knock people out of the boat, but I was suddenly in the water, but ran out of stamina as I swam to the boat.
Health started to tick down, reaching for ladder, *gurgle *dead.

15 min run turns to 30 mins when you're naked, no potions, no weapons, low health/stamina, and your way is constantly blocked with greydudes and trolls.
Not fun.
At least my burial site floats.

I build a second base next to the coast in a dark forest biome that is right next to a medows biome. This has proved to be a good choice for both access to the sea, resources and for defense as it is on a point of headland. It has ditches all around it and an old stone fort to my left on the hill top. The fort just needs a few renovations and it could serve as a keep.

Renovated old stone fort. It is still a work in progress but it is working well as I have pulled up my house which was below and replaced it with workshop space. I run two smelters and two charcoal kilns now which are both under cover. Harbor improvements coming next :). Please note large ditch and stone works to keep the trolls at bay.

Start of a harbor but gives a better view of the renovations below. This works for forest, troll and swamp attacks however it has not been tested by the mountains raids which have flying drakes. Note the wolf in the workshop compound, he is one of 4 and as a pack they are fairly deadly however they are dumb and you have to keep them away from sharpened stakes :(.

As a result of using procedural generation you can get really poor sized strips of swamp which make the number of sunken crypts limited. I have that problem on my world as well however my friend I play with has large swamps with many crypts and we have been clearing them out.

The iron ore or ingots can be carried on your person as you know so I just log out with my share on me. The Quid pro quo has been that there were close and easy mountains on my world with good quantities of silver.

Yes, you can get tossed out of the boat. Point at the mast and you can select "Hold fast" or sitting down in the boat is supposed to be safest?

Whoa, you can go overboard in a storm? I usually go to sail 2 when it's really hard storm. Dunno if that is actually modelled but I like to keep it a bit authentic.
Last swamp excursion had me promptly miss my harpoon as a serpent spawned. I had to take to the black forest and promptly attracted greydwarf conga line, but this time I played safe. And the boat made it through too. No good risking life on a boat trip - we were there.
Really annoyed me with the iron and crappy swamps. But I already think about starting a new map. I just keep the metals and gear on me sexy body and I get up and running in no time.
Maybe.

Sooo, I was fighting this troll in my shiny new Iron Armour and Serpent Scale Shield, when I noticed this copper deposit nearby.

"Hmm, I hear trolls can break these, let's try", I thought

Sure enough, the troll made a hole before I finished him, so I thought, let's jump in and see if I got any ore!

Not the way I thought I'd end up today :)

Edit: Ended up using console commands to move myself 1 metre left, and out of the hole. After I looked up how the command works as the first attempt left me swimming in the middle of the ocean :D

Yes, I think a coastal resort is almost requisite. And I've started going "full raider" as you say. Feels dirty but efficient ala crystal shards, Davs Hope, etc.

I did read once you get to iron it becomes an iron grind. Sounds like there are ways around it judging from these posts.

Was sitting, the tips & tricks say that's the safest way to sail.

o_O wow I've seen gnarly storms, waves tremendous, 15-20ft (5-7m), cracking my Karve as I utilize real world sailing skills. I guess that is what it would take to toss someone overboard while sitting.

LMFAO ahh good times. Too sexy for this armor, too sexy for this armor...

:D:D:D thanks for find that out for us lol

And finally, I have THE accessory that transitions from daywear to evening wear seamlessly...

Yes, that is terrific screenshot work you're witnessing there haha

Four hundred and fifty weight units of glory. I am The Ox. Grunt.

Oh and I got the Abyssal Harpoon. Check out this sight I saw out on the waves:

Yesterday I sailed to the south, encountering Ashlands with a strange glowing ore, Surtlings shooting fireballs at my boat (and destroying it once, needed to get new iron nails from home via portal since they sunk to the bottom), and the edge of the world. I didn't dare getting to close, I had serpent scales & meat, chitin and flamemetal on board, as well as all my gear.

That didn't go well.
We sailed north to fight the 3rd boss, had to make landfall due to 3 ocean attacks.
Upon landing
deathsquito
kills us both.
Iron armour no match.
So I don temp troll gear, grab the backup boat, head back, same thing occurs upon arrival.
I ragequit again.
Have to make another boat to get my stuff.
I think we're supposed to do mountain level things before heading to plains.

Yeah, my issues usually start with dying - last time was right next to a spawn point, so I ended up god-mode-ing myself as it wasn't going to be fun after I lost my main gear and backup gear. I've heard that sneaking in can help, but they always seem to see me. I lost one lot of armour on the edge of a Plains - I haven't gone back for it :)

The 3rd boss is next for me - Bonemass is in a swamp though, not plains. Plains are the 5th biome IIRC, so I'm trying to avoid, but they're not as recognisable as swamps, so it's easy to get caught out.
