Yesterday and today ive been fighting in a low intensity combat zone.

The combat zone yesterday was full of high rank shipped, master and above. As a result I had to be fully alert when engaged in combat.

Today post patch I noticed the combat zone had a sizeable number of competent and expert ranked ships rather than being stacked full of high ranked ships.

As a result it felt to me less of a threat and more like farming again.

I ended up deliberately avoiding the low ranked ships and waiting for the occasional deadly or elite to appear. They were more of a challenge, but because of the preponderance of low ranked ships I never really felt in danger of being torn to pieces by an alpha assault if my shields dropped.

It was better than 2.0 but didn't have the edge of either Beta or early 2.1 were you knew that there were some big fish out there that could trash you if you let your guard down.

I suspect that we will be in a situation now whereby those who liked combat will be disappointed, while the more casual players will still regard the game as too tough.
Sounds like you need to move up to a High Rez or Haz Rez site. Low Rez is for new players.

The AI is a goddam potato now.

I don't care what the patch notes say. This is 2.0 AI minus the spin of death. It's not just a reduction in ranks. The AI is TERRIBLE again.

THEY DON"T EVEN ATTACK ANYMORE, and when they do you can ignore it for up to 2 minutes with 4 pips to shields.

I just waited 15 minutes for a derpy Deadly Viper to return fire. He sat there for 15 minutes, on my 6, doing NOTHING. This after I dropped his shields, and did 0% module damage. I guess NPCs watch Netflix while playing ED too now.

I've been flying in a Vulture for most of my time in Elite, because it's a nice heavy fighter. My favorite thing about the Vulture was always it's maneuverability.

But it seems like with the latest patch, either the Vulture got a massive maneuvering nerf, or everything else got a buff. I'm getting stuck in loops during dogfights with Clippers and Pythons now. Pythons, for crying out loud. I'm about to give up on the Mehet event and go back to flying in a Type 7.

Pure 100% reactionary madness on FD's part :(

Hey 27% of the players wanted to destroy the game for the other 73%. Ah well. Very glad I didn't buy the lifetime pass now. Not worth it if the game is only fun for 1 week out the year. If want to farm potatoes, I'll move to Idaho.

2.1 AI knows to fly their ships. Which is nice.

But they don't really have tactics and variations in behaviour, and wings don't really work together so far.

It would be nice is totally outclassed ships just fleeing as fast as possible, instead of having T7's trying to fight.
Or outclassed ships sometimes fleeing while calling for backup would also spice things up.

I'd love to see proper npc wing (WW1/II) combat manoeuvres and tactics. However, the average player (me included) would suffer greatly.

Disclaimer: this thread is for discussion about the AI after update 2.01.02 on the morning of 03 june 2016 (BST).

If you haven't tried ED 2.1 with since the update, do try it and come back when you feel you have something to share. Thanks!

I noticed 2.1.0.2 today so after doing the update I flew the DisposaViper IV into a HAZRES just cuz. :) I assisted my wanted NPC Dropship buddy shoot some good guys and some bad guys. I agree that they will get and stay on your six so FA-OFF is a must. I also noticed with FA-OFF the ship didn't flail around madly like in past versions.

Other than that, the (new new new) AI is pretty doable (for me). Someone in the thread said, "Be careful." Best advice, right there. Gank and run :)

Also kudos to FD for the visual damage on ships. I like the laser burn marks. Not sure when that got implemented.

Playing tonight I found a lot less interdiction's and hardly phased my cobra shields at all.

I think they went and over dialed it back, too easy again.

Were you using turrets? There's a bug with the AI right now causing AI ships to ignore turret-based damage. If not, I dunno. Went to bed at three this morning after reading about the two-hour downtime, and haven't had a chance to play since the servers went down.

I arrived to Amarishvaru system, allied to empire (medium security) and dropped to nav beacon. There were some ships in the area, around 5 or 7, mostly small deadly, ships (cobras, eagles etc) I approached to nav beacon to finish scan and suddenly ALL the ships turned red on the radar and started firing at me. I have some bounties, I was carrying illegal stuff but I think its crazy all AI ships after 10 seconds you enter an area to start firing at you. All of them?! My ASP was destroyed in less than 10 seconds. I didn't even managed to press the boost button for a second time.... Very disappointing... All progress, collecting materials gone... Im really tired of this. Whenever I encounter AI I'm forced to flee but tonight I was not as lucky as the other nights.
I'll try again tomorrow, I feel very tired...

Definitely not using turrets on my DBS. This is an example of what I was seeing in a Compromised Nav Beacon that was wall to wall Deadly and Dangerous NPCs. Little to no return fire. The few that did fire, missed more than they hit and didn't keep a lock, but just flew past me.

This derpy viper refused to fight back. A pacifist NPC who is wanted and just had his shields stripped by your's truly. 15 minutes later, still no return fire.

This video is a sample of what I am seeing. It is not an isolated incident. The aggressiveness and aim of NPCs has been MASSIVELY reduced.

The Viper is charging it's FSD.

For 17 minutes?

The FDS in my vid did the same, it was charging it's FSD but didn't jump. My guess is it's a bug, it should either run & attempt to jump away, or cancel the jump so it can deploy it's hardpoints.

I think most people would just kill it (as I did) rather than toy with it ;)

That's strange, the NPCs I encountered so far fired back. One Elite Asp Exp. even managed to outmaneuver me in my FAS. Not going to underestimate an Elite Asp again (and I need a point defense …).

And as a funny side note: a sidewinder ram me in my FAS. I guess even NPCs use Suicidewinders to get rid of the wanted status…

I would love to believe this answer, but this is not an isolated incident. And even when they do return fire, they are purposefully missing causing my 135 MJ shields to last for several minutes even if I sit stock still and take it with 4 pips to SYS.

I had to hit 6 random NPCs in this compromised Nav beacon instance before even 1 of them returned fire. 30 seconds later I had 2 NPCs firing at me, lazily, while I "fled" at 150 m/s. They were ranked Deadly and Master, and this Retep the zombie derp was following me the whole time too, not attacking, not jumping away.

Ziljan, has someone stolen your account? You know better than this, clearly it's not intended behaviour :)

Try a different ship, try another location. Could be a problem with the Compromised Nav Beacons (or intended to discourage a lesser pilot from hanging around after they scanned the beacon), could be that the AI scales to your ship and rank.
