Automation and Scripting - An investigation into further abuses of BGS and Powerplay

JPG and several strings of code can't advocate for anything.

Just in case you're that dense, when people in PowerPlay talks about Mahon, Winters, ALD etc. doing something, we are referring to the groups that are ostensibly the leaders of the PowerPlay efforts.

Mahon isn't a real person, Tom... Mahon can't "advocate" for anything. It's a 2D, paper-thin character with less substance than an extra in Eastenders.

Just in case you are that dense, when people in PowerPlay talks about Mahon/Winters/ALD etc doing something, we're referring to the player groups that are ostensibly in charge of that power's actions.

Likewise, no one has to respect your opinion either lol! But anyway, back to the question of why does one even bother to use more than one account? You know the answer but don't want to admit it: it's to provide some sort of gain, benefit or increase - even a small increase - over using the one account. If there was nothing to gain no one would do it; it would simply be a waste of money.

This is not true.

I have two accounts. My primary account (Vectron) is heavily dedicated to PowerPlay, while my secondary is used when I want to do things that would take me away from PowerPlay space for too long. I.e. long range expeditions.

It's my money and I've nothing else to spend it on.

A few 'game improvements' that would make bots struggle:
- in the case of PP don't allow buying/selling papers to the same station or set a cap/quota. Players can still go to another station, or even another system to buy/sell, that would make any manually scripted 'jump sequence' hard, specially if the destination of the papers is also set by the game when you buy them (and not a player option). PP bots would then be forced to plot different routes and that can become a problem to automate.

The idea of having fixed quotas per week for players (let's say 16,800 for the sake of argument) doesn't really fix anything. All that does is allow each bot to deliver 16,800 merits every week, while regular players are incapable of overtaking them by being more effective traders. That being said, free fixed quotas (with the ability to buy more) is something that the PowerPlay community has been advocating for a while, primarily because fast tracking 700+ merits 10 at a time (rating 1) is about the worst kind of experience you can imagine, as involves 210 actions and more than 600 key/button presses JUST to full a Cutter/Type-9's hold.

since these are very long term, immediately could be done:
- any player that mysteriously loses connection at the same moment they are being scanned should just be solo-ed the second time, for being a coward.
- any player that mysteriously loses connection at the same moment they are being interdicted should be solo-ed the second time, for being a coward.

These are interesting, but would only work if the client actually sends the hostile action to the servers when they happen, and I'm not sure it does.

One more thing..
- players playing 24h long periods, don't get me wrong, but that should not be punished, it can be mistaken by a couple of brothers sharing an account or some other oddities. I myself sometimes spend hours sitting in the landing pad planning and checking stuff.

While this is true, it would deal with AFK turret boats. It's an entirely different subject, but basically you wing up with three other players in pure Turret load out Anacondas, Corvettes and Cutters, get into a proper formation at the centre of a combat zone (be it civil war, war, PowerPlay expansions, res sites or nav beacons), set your turrets to fire at will and pick a side if needed. Leave the accounts running for hours or days on end and by the time you all come back, you'll have raked up enormous amounts of bounties, combat bonds or merits.

Discussion is nice and i understand OP’s feeling but i would appreciate FD doesnt change too much things because 5 monkeys are playing a deadborn feature.

And again, captcha in game ??? Why not asking for our phone number for sending us a sms everytime we want to enter a station.

Some people are far too serious, it is a game. Get over it, change game.

btw, this post should be moved in PP section.

I've never used a docking computer and think that it should be removed from the game... But I know a lot of people unable to fly their ships properly rely on it, so...

Elite is a very hands on game with no AI or automatic systems.. Even limpets took a while to enter the game, before them, you had to manually hoover up cargo...

Seriously!? What has the docking computer got to do with botting or the fight against them? Is thatreally the best you can up with? That some people are useless so use a DC?

I've never had a use for all the external apps so many players rely on so maybe we should remove the journal from the game.

Removing the docking computer would instantly cripple all current bots in the short term, and force their authors to jump through far more hoops to get them working again. Docking is most definitely one of the harder parts of the sequence to automate. You might even have to resort to memory scraping to get relative coords in order to dock reliably. It would possibly result in the majority of current bot users having to quit cheating entirely. I'm not saying docking computers shoud be removed. Just responding to your question.

But this can also still be detected :)

How about a combination of captcha and docking computer, when you get permission to land you are assigned a pad. Have a window popup asking which pad you want the docking computer to head to.

It would flummox the bots (I think).

Off-the-shelf scripting software handles automated character recognition and data entry very easily, but if the pad number is stated verbally that would add another order of complexity. Having a whole range of random verbal instructions with randomised data (channel frequencies, pad numbers, etc.) might make the bot authors despair at the countless hours of dev and testing time required to try to decode all possible combos.

OT: FDev can't just ignore it. For sure, we all want new things. But player time and investment has to be respected? If they let the botters continue to do their thing, they'd be basically saying 'do whatever' and the BGS would die. I don't know what effect that'd have on the overall experience.

If bots are altering the BGS, or Power Play, and Frontier cannot, or will not stop them, it is time to stop playing those games, or scrap them.

Tampering with the BGS affects all players. Losing Power Play might lose players, but it's better than ruining the game for everyone.

I am quite serious.
