Be honest everyone. Who will most likely purchase the Python MkII..?

Are there any consequences to wiping your account? Is there some sort of cool down period? If not I can imagine the following scenario..

- Ganker buys a second account
- Ganker buys the Gank Boat for that account
- Ganker enjoys consequence-free ganking until their Gank Boat explodes
- Ganker has a lot of debts to pay, but not to worry, just do a wipe
- Ganker now has a clean account and still retains his Gank Boat
There would be so many easy solutions to the ganking problem which would allow players to play in open and do all multiplayer activities without the fear of being ganked, but of course fdev will never implement them.

Here's one idea: Support opting out of being interdicted by another player.

It would work like this: A switch in some setting menu which, if turned on, makes it not possible for you to interdict other players, as well as for other players to interdict you.

If you have this setting on and you are in a team, no member of your team can interdict other players either. For a team to be able to interdict other players, every single member of the team must have the setting off.

There should be some sort of delay between switching this setting and it having an effect (in order to stop it from being abused). For example turning it on (ie. you can't be interdicted by other players) could have a delay of a few hours, turning it off (ie. you can be interdicted) some minutes. (This is so that a ganker can't abuse the setting to avoid being revenge-griefed himself after he has interdicted somebody.)

This setting would have no effect on interdicting/being interdicted by NPCs, so that game mechanic would stay intact.

Sure, this wouldn't solve the problem 100% (eg. it doesn't stop someone from camping at Jameson Memorial and sniping arriving commanders), but it would be a huge improvement.

Brilliant idea, especially if combined with open only powerplay, should that come. The salt will flow freely, as opposing powers do fly in open and you still can't do a bloody thing because they've got the flag set off. Ganking needs a solution IMO, but that is not it.

There should also be a downside to this, maybe when you turn that setting on it should also stop you from instancing with other friendly people. 🤔

If there are other stuff that could be abused by being uninterdictable by other players, surely the setting would also affect those things?

The fact that I can't play in open is annoying and tiresome. The only situation where I play in open is when doing a Fuel Rat rescue, but it's annoying that I have to always switch back to solo when I want to go back to Jameson Memorial after the rescue. It's so tiresome and frustrating, and something I really shouldn't have to endure.

Yes, I know there's a solo mode.

There should be no need for such a mode. It should be superfluous. The only reason why it exists is the ganking problem.

Just intrigued to know how many cmdrs are planning to buy this early access ship from the Arx store on the 7th May?

I myself may well, just for the sake of something being new. However, will probably hold out a little while to learn the usefulness of this new ship.
...Would be honestly disappointing if the interior is identical to the old version. Hoping this will see a face lift. And would make the purchase all the more worth while.

Flimley
Nope - I'll wait

Incorrect. Solo exists as there are some players who played the single player elite games prior to ED, and have no desire to play as multiplayer.

Of course, 3 modes were introduced to enable players to choose who they interact with, ganking is only a problem if a player elects to play with everyone and doesn't think about what they are flying in this mode.

I hope this thread doesn't get locked.
Likewise...
IMO it's good to be able to discuss the Python II
It is, but with it's utility as a new fighter, and having a pre-build that is half reasonable, the favourite topic is bound to rear its head.

I'll just add, as a parting blow, that if I'm playing where I want to get things done (and that is usually with a friend or two) I hang up the "Do Not Disturb" sign, and play to my heart's content.

After seeing Buur's hands on Python Mk2 - i have doubts i will get it early
It sure has 4 large hardpoints, 2 mediums and 6 utility slots, but only Size 6 PP and PD - so already it lost a good deal of means of powering those wonderful 6 hardpoints

Then it lost most of its internals and i mean MOST if its internals
The original Python has Size 6 x3, Size 5 x2, Size 4 x1, Size 3 x2, Size 2 x1 and Size 1 x1 >>> a grand total of 10 internals
The Python Mk2 has Size 6 x1, Size 4 x1, Size 3 x1, Size 2 x1 and Size 1 x3 >>> a grand total of 7 internals (losing 2x size 6, 2x size 5 and a size 3 while gaining 2x size 1)

Lots of lost internals plus losing size 7 PP and PD - i dont even know what's worse losing pp and pd or losing that much internals

I dont even think it deserves the Python name anymore. They could have name it basically ANTHING
Pythin MKII seems to be meant as a glass cannon, even moreso than FDL. Pure shield tank. As for internals, class 6 for shield, class 4 and 3 for mission payloads makes a viable PvE combat multirole similar to Chief (but shield-focused, not a hybrid hull tank). You can have class 3 ops limpets with 16 tons of cargo for black box and other salvage or hostage rescue missions, or class 4 SRV hangar with 8 tons of cargo for surface missions. Replace these with class 4 HRP and class 3 MRP for pure combat missions.
Anyways, the size 6 PP cannot power prismatics+6 skill boosters + 4 plasmas and 2 rails...
It can if you overcharge it. Or use Efficient PA-s with E-rated shield boosters. Might go Low Draw experimental on the Prismatic. 6 boosters are generally not the best, anyway, if you have SCB-s, unless you want to cook your ship every tine you recharge your shield🙂
However, a class 6 distributor is not going to handle more than 2 high WEP draw large hardpoints all that well, based on the performance of the Chieftain with the same class 6 PD.
Based on my Chief that can feed one large, one medium efficient PA plus one large overcharged PA (~30 MW total distro draw), PII won't have problems with four efficient large PA-s (also ~30 MW distro draw). Or maybe even 5 efficient PA-s if yiu're feeling adventurous🙃

As for railguns, generally you don't shoot them at the same time with PA-s so 2 mediums should be doable—RoF might be lower than with PA+Rail FDL due to needing to let the wep cap charge more between shots.

At least for pure PvE I tend to use a mix of distro-heavy and distro-light weapons on my Chief. For example, 4 beams in the small and medium HP-s for shield-stripping and 2 large SRB cannons for hull and module damage; or 3 PA-s for shield/hull and 3 small advanced missile racks with penetrator experimental for module damage. This way I can switch to distro-light weapons once the opponent's shield is down and fly 4-2-0 to recharge my own shield and still snipe the power plant/ wreak module damage in general. It's very effective, yesterday I managed to kill a Python at 97% hull left, which was absurdly hilarious🤪

Not beyond the extremely obvious ones!

With modern earning rates this doesn't significantly improve their efficiency over the current situation - have a PvE alt account with a carrier to transfer money over, use that money to buy their next reset's ship. They're probably going to want to swap at least a few modules anyway on whatever Frontier has designed. (Any variant of this approach also locks them out of permit systems)

The ship can't be engineered (because they won't have any unlocks or materials) which will limit its effectiveness somewhat; a player with a longer-standing account could do the same thing with even a mid-engineered build and just go through the bankruptcy-rebuild-remote-engineer-G3 loop easily enough; or alternatively they could just use a full G5 combat ship like everyone else and not worry about losing it in the first place (even more efficient since they can stay in or near their target system at all times)

If you're the sort of attacker willing to take some time off to reset your account, get your ship again, find somewhere to swap out the weapons, then get back to whatever system actually had a decent number of targets and all the rest of the micromanagement... you can just take an hour off occasionally to do some Orthrus clearance at a spire or similar and get more than enough money to cover the occasional rebuy.

I dont see that happening until they start selling G5 murderboats for arx - in which case someone can play it as any other arena shooter wiping the account weekly or even daily

That's probably because they already have multiple options of doing all multiplayer activities without fear of anything. :)

For example:
  • they can click on the PG button
  • they can realize that the number of star systems in this game is several orders of magnitude larger than the number of gankers, so the chance of being interdicted by a ganker is practically zero in nearly all of the 400 billion systems, with the exception of 2 or 3 hotspots
  • they can realize that being afraid of their pixel spaceships going boom is ridiculously silly
  • and last, but not least, they can of course put some minimal effort into gitting gud enough to become nearly impossible to shoot down (or even a little bit more to be able to fight back)
:)
