Beta 1.1 comments for non beta players

In other words no more 30s kills of Anacondas in your single Eagle or Viper? I can see how that might be a problem.

I think doing any kind of Anaconda farming is pretty much beyond the capabilities of the Sidewinder, Eagle and Viper with all the changes. A lot are having a very hard time even mounting a Shiell Cell on a Viper due to the massive power they require now. The Python, is overheating and taking hull damage trying to use 2.

People have been yammering for harder combat and it looks like they killed a bunch of birds all at once. They also seem to be adding in new mission types with scaling rewards that looks very promising. I wouldn't cry the sky is falling yet, but I'd go practicing your combat techniques and killing efficiency with different loadouts. The old ones aren't gonna work well anymore.

While you're at it, do a bit of research on (or even play) Elite 2/3. Trust me, you'll be happy to finally shed that elite virginity syndrome. In the process, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the game universe and why things are going in the direction that they are, and why tweaks to the Python are being true to it's name and function, the Python Freighter. Get this "end game" mentality out of your head before it's too late or the Panther is going to cause you a lot of tears.

Elite is an old school grind which meant no instant gratification and long term goal planning. There was no get quest, kill mob and turn in for instant epicz. Star Citizen isn't looking to be that way either and anyone that knows Chris Roberts remembers how grindy Privateer was. I'm sure he's making many improvements, but instant gratification was never his thing either.

Upcoming additions and changes that I'll admit to being overly clueless about is the social element and community missions. That's something new and it looks promising to help breath life into the game universe. System traffic, police and military pressence still seems pretty sparse but that's likely due to sync and lag issues they're sorting out. I expect that to change quickly once they fix it and can finally add all that in. In previous games, it was pretty dangerous once you hit wanted status on an assassination mission and had to get out of dodge. Shield cells (as they are now) wouldn't have helped with how big some of those response forces were. ;)

What can I say, the Federation didn't like me much. Imperial Courer and Trader, or Federal Dropship. No contest.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the experience. It's pretty tame and easy now but that's definitely going to change. Combat in planetary atmospheres (including gas giants) is going to be a lot of fun. Bring extra heat sinks.

Totally agree.

Elite is turning into Space Truck Simulator.

non pvp'ers whining about ships being OP and devs obeying.

DB always said that PvP would be rare, and when it happened supposedly meaningful and with real consequences to the CMDR who chose to do it.... He always said the vast majority of the game would be PvE with co-op play. Surely it would be madness to spend too long balancing a game mechanic which is only a minority mechanic as per design?

the funny thing is, I am not a PvPer... but that being said I totally agree with you that some ships should be able to be objectively better than others, so long as it makes sense (so no sidewinder with a cargo load of 100 tons!), just like a ferrari is objectively a better 2 seater than an mx5 in all aspects, but it costs way more to buy and run

generally IME it is the PvPer who is more worried about balance than the non-pvper........ so technically I agree with you, but you are whining about the wrong whiners ;)

Can anyone hop on the beta, hop into an anaconda, and test the docking computer?

Does it still scrape the top of the shield in the letterbox everytime?

Just curious, thanks in advance to whoever checks if they do!

its the pvpers who constantly and endlessly whine about balance. pve players dont care about that at all.

Despite the irony of your posts in itself ;)

There were quite a lot of people complaining about the fact that it is to easy to kill elite anacondas in cobras/vipers. Not only the pvp crowd is demanding balancing.
Guess that's a matter of perspective...

I do find it so funny people complaining this isn't the game they want to play. I wonder how many could code the one they did want to play...

This is the game that the creator wants and has conceptually designed for the past 30 years.. You are here to enjoy his vision. If you don't like it, there is always EvE online and Star Citizen...

Beta 1.1 testers Orca? Beta 1.1 testers Orca?

Have any of you got a chance to test the Orca out and find what uses they have given it the Beta so far?

I am on the fence about getting one just want to know if it is going to be worth my while to get one.

Thanks

I'm all excited for the release of 1.1, but with that being said, if you are testing, please post picture using the spoiler feature. I can't speak for everyone, but for me personally, I want to make these new discoveries for myself and not click in this forum to see pics of planets with lights etc. now.

Thank you.

Me too. So, did you read this? So do this!

Its not that bad. But I will summon up a small list I gathered from reading this.

Speedwise, D thruster today will perform roughly as A thruster after patch.
Shield -33% with same shield. Not so much to say there.
Heat damage starts at 130%.
All lasers will now generate significantly more heat. If you use 5 beams and empty a A7 power distributor. You will get damage. But this applise to all ships.
