I am *not* amazing. Nor do I believe I am. In fact I am pretty crap as a pilot, so the fact these things never happened to me prove they are easy enough to avoid. Still doesn't alter the fact that a notoriety that disappears in an hour is pointless, especially when you can go to another jurisdiction, swap to a new ship, & proceed for an hour until that notoriety disappears like vapour.

Then hold off going into a RES. I didn't touch a RES until after a full month into the game. No, they won't be banished from their system, as they can hop into a clean ship where their notoriety will have little to no impact on them.

Again, good for you. You know fully well many, many people do have such issues. Either accommodate them or be honest and just say:"I dont care about other people, I want to have fun no matter what that means for others." This daft notion that new players should just avoid RES and that new players should 'just buy a new ship' when they make a mistake is lame as heck.

And honestly, if you want FD to actually take note of anything you may want to come up with suggestions that include the community at large, beyond saying:"they they should just git gud lol screw them." It may be reasonable to you, but it is unlikely to happen because FD doesnt just cater to people like us.

Funny, I somehow managed to avoid them all.

The sad fact is that bounties will be significantly *weaker*, & less prevalent, than they were under the old system. I see very few people being dumb enough to allow a bounty to stand for more than an hour....not with the increase in the number of Interstellar Factors in the galaxy......& no premiums for paying them off. Sadly FDev have again caved in to the whiner crowd.

Not sure that it's to do with FD caving or players whining TBH...

So players don't fly around wanted. Big deal, what does it matter? Seriously. Notoriety isn't a badge, it's a mechanic to scale murder bounties, and provide a very small reason to think about whether you want to commit a crime or not in a certain jurisdiction (which was essentially what the timers are in live).

If you want to feel the full force of the 'law' in ED upon you, there's absolutely nothing compelling you to pay off your bounties just because your notoriety has decayed. :)

Sure, it's not as draconian a 'punishment' as some might want, but I've said it before, and I'll say it again... It's a game, players don't play it to be punished, especially if what they are doing isn't against the rules. :)

I'm going to make another post about the raw material trader because it has been a problem since the first beta and nothing has changed. It is broken.

Like really, really broken.

To demonstrate my point, I have taken a screenshot of the raw trader and changed the material rarities to reflect what they actually are in the rest of the game. I have also gone through most of the blueprints that use elements and drawn arrows connecting lower grade elements with the higher grade elements that commonly replace them in blueprints.*
https://i.imgur.com/IqsM9ut.jpg
*My parameters for this were any element that is used it the next grade of the same blueprint. When more than one element were used per grade in a blueprint, I looked at other blueprints to decide which element of the first pair preceding which of the second. Sometimes there would be large gaps of 2-3 grades without any elements, and in this case I usually just ignored it, but in one case I denoted this relationship with an orange arrow.

Utter nonsense. An example of the utter failure of this system is OC power-plant G3. It uses Selenium. G4 uses Cadmium. G5 Tellurium. Now lets say you are rolling a powerplant, but you get a few bad g3 rolls and run out of selenium, but you have plenty of Tellurium and cadmium. You go to the material trader, and find that it costs 6 of the VERY RARE Tellurium to get ONE STANDARD Selenium, and 36 of the RARE Cadmium to get 1 selenium. And the funny part is, as you can see from the graph, this is not an edge case. This is EVERY CASE!!!

It would be very simple to fix this. First I would make lead common and baron standard instead of both being very common. Then I would change the categories and ranking to be:
https://i.imgur.com/mvPaL8a.png
With arrows:

As you can see, this system actually makes sense and keeps elements used in the same blueprint in the same category, for the most part. It also preserves element rarity unlike the old system.

I brought this up loads of times, and was hoping for something to change in Beta 3 (ridiculous trade costs if trading up, or sideways, but not G5 to G1 down, and the G5 maxing rolls is my second bugbear).

Still holding out for the launch for things to change, because it still is the Beta - if it doesn't, well...

They asked for feedback, they wanted feedback - they got it from many, many people :/

Now is the true test once 3.0 goes live - do they listen?

Not that hard for a new player, who goes into res, has barely a clue what happens, no awareness of surroundings and pew pews with gimballed weapons being chaffed. Its easy to accidentally hit the wrong ship, or not know you should wait for the scan to complete before hitting an obvious pirate. These are lessons they learn, and sometimes the ship you got a bounty for gets butchered by cops. You then get a murder penalty, and if it takes a week to go back to notoriety 0 as some want then these new players are banished for a week from there system as they cant pay off bounties.

Had my share of accidentally shooting or ramming the wrong ship, never once accidentally murdered anyone, even as a new player who went into a res barely having a clue what happened with gimballed weapons being chaffed.

So after such a long time, beaten by jump range by its little brother T6, inferior in cargo space to its big brother T9, and utterly crushed by multi purpose Python who can carry as much, drive faster, and is able to dock outposts, the T7 finally gets its deserved upgrade. Now it can truly become a mid core trading ship balanced in carge space, jump range, and maneuverability. And finally, with this shiny new size 6 distributor, aside from Python and Dropship I have another mining ship candidate to choose from.

Some small issue occurred when I test mining in T7 though, I outfitted it into a mining ship with all A grade top size core internal. Its engine consumption is exceptionally low when boosting, took only 3 pips or so. And every time it makes frame shift jump it gets overheat in the last second before jumping, which is a bit concerning. My power consumption is only somewhere like 70% and when not doing anything temperature can be maintained at about 35%. It just gets cooked up very fast by these powerful new equipment. Maybe some tweak in heat management is needed, call out the engineer team!

Combined with auto vent function and material ignore list, it seems my mining career can reach a new peak in 3.0. Hope those raw material traders are ready for my mineral dumping. Thank you so much for showing some love to this long-forgotten ship!:)

Do powerplay crimes still increase notoriety btw? If so it could cause problems with accidental assault bounties from activities outside power play being really hard to remove if someone was just undermining.

1 week = 168 hours.

Assuming the average player plays 4 hours a day, it would take 42 days in the real world to reduce one point.

Not if they spend the other 20 hours a day logged in and floating in space in a random system 10,000ls away from anything whilst they're in bed/at work. :D

Looks like great changes, especially with C & P. Can hardly wait to test things out later this evening.

Good job!

Precisely my point. I am a sub par combat pilot, yet have never accidentally murdered a player or NPC, which is literally the only way you can score notoriety. Not that its like Notoriety will even stop you playing the game. Just move to a new jurisdiction and/or swap to an unwanted ship.....so 1 day or 1 week decay times won't hurt anybody's ability to play the game. Yet to hear Sleut, you'd think it would be the end of the world.

Perhaps for the average player; I for one, can not remember flying around in the Elite universe for anything less than 5-6 at a time at the bare minimum. Then again I am fortunate enough to be able to play almost every evening until the wee hours of the morning.

[down] Converting a legacy module still downgrades it and causes it to lose special effects. This does NOT encourage conversion.

Some Railgun Experimental Effects under the new system now all have a 40% heat reduction applied (applies to Feedback Cascade, Super Penetrator, Plasma slug)
[wacky] Now we can all have overpowered rails.

The dark side of planets is no longer pitch black
[ugh] That's disappointing.

Fixed the armour having too high a mass for the ship’s size
[???] How about fixing the Courier's overweight armor? (is 8t, should be 5t)

Buffed the type 7 to improve its jump range
[up] At least it will be good for something, finally.

Fixed E grade Shield Boosters having the wrong stats
[blah] Awe, I was looking forward to having an extra 120mj on my Courier.

[wink] My C2 biweave is better than what the new system can make. Won't be converting that one. (actually I won't be converting ANY that are not expendable)

[mad] Still no lightweight srv bay / ads / dss...

  • The dark side of planets is no longer pitch black

What? It was broken since the very release of Horizons... There were probably hundreds of threads begging you to fix this since then. After more than 2 years, in 3.0 beta, you finally fixed it and made the dark sides of planets dark... everyone was loving the darkness... and now you break it again? Why? :S

Just to repeat a post from earlier on (and misquote Mark Twain) ... "reports that the dark side of planets are no longer dark have been greatly exaggerated".

All is not lost. Found immediately a place that is not listening to FD.

.....and your problem is? I'd be OK with that being real time, rather than 1 week's worth of game-playing.

My problem? None as I don't do combat or play open.

The problem with that solution, number of days. Of course is an average that might or might not be close to reality, since some people may play for 10 hours and others for 1.

So if you are at 10 notoriety, that would be 420 days, over one year in real time to go back to 0. Seems a lot like fun.

While we are at it, maybe we should have to fill an in game income tax every year, make the thing more realistic.

Perhaps for the average player; I for one, can not remember flying around in the Elite universe for anything less than 5-6 at a time at the bare minimum. Then again I am fortunate enough to be able to play almost every evening until the wee hours of the morning.

6 hours a day still makes it 28 days, and for 10 notoriety, 280 days, or almost a year. Is that something you would enjoy?

That is due to luck. If the ship you accidentally hit was then killed by someone else, you get the full murder bounty.

Yes guys, don't worry about the dark side of planets. The ones I've been to are still dark as they were in beta 2.

Worst issues are with engineering now. Very broken whilst upgrading.
