Bring on the DOOM!

Odyssey coming on console would give the Elite the additional breadth needed to fill the hole that exists in my gaming experience if it is to be a true space simulation. I do agree that they would need to have a release soon, however they do need to make sure they're not premature as we've already seen what happened on PC with the game coming too early.

I wholeheartedly agree with your comment with the need to reach around and get a firm grip of the issue as I don't think many will be happy with the current edging towards completion that we're having at the moment.

This is so true. They need to get much better girth on the issue, although depth can also be important.

The issue really needs grabbing tightly, and the whole console hesitation simply has to be pulled off the table and rammed into reality. As you say, edging this issue is just wrong, and they are being quite dirty with the way they have been penetrating the untapped console market.

I remember a while back when ID software was acquired by Bethesda, and Bethesda mentioned a new ID project was in the works.

I was excited because ID hasn’t done anything new in a long time and the expectations of a new Doom where high.
Some time went by and thinking a new Doom was on the horizon, Bethesda announced that the work done by ID was not up to
Bethesda standards and ID was to basically start over.

I was crushed after hearing the news but ID got it together and put out a fantastic DOOM.

Its all about having top notch leadership not putting up with substandard work.

Not a personal critique, but this is the sort of assumption that the forum make from any comments from Brebus or FD in general - taking a passing comment and turning into a future promise.

As I say, not personal at all, just an example of how the forum reacts to any comments, a lot of the time (recently) because there is sod all communication from them!

I didn't watch the video though so I don't know when it's from, but I just wanted to explain to people passing through, how the rumours happen.
It’sa written interview. So no video. I can’t decide in truth what the F he is actually saying, which is why asked for opinions. He seems to be dating interiors are there but the community are not pleased they all look the same… in which case he much be talking about the concourse of stations?

I hate Microsoft with a burning passion so that'd certainly guarantee that FD never get any of my money ever again.
Same here. M$ have destroyed any number of game franchises over the years by acquiring them. They already have too much of a monopoly; they suck.

The question to ask is whether we think Microsoft would take their time and bring us to the heights of gaming pleasure, or are they much more likely to grind away, mindlessly pumping out titles that don't really satisfy.

As long as they don't start ramming things down our throats, so far that the community chokes on their offerings. Imagine the salty mess such a thing would create. They have to get the balance right, and not end up with some sort of dirty offering that nobody would want.

has long has you pay for there subcription fees , i sure they won't mind what you do,and don't forget you download there xbox companion too.

That was one of it.

EDO failed launch means little sales plus 6 months of crunching - those devs were working over budget (they estimated 1 month of work post launch of JWE2 to iron out whatever bugs. EDO is still burning money on devs- or at least it was - things seem to slow down a lot in the last 2 months)

Then they spent a lot with marketing and distribution channels for EDO, JWE2 and Lemnis Gate.
While JWE2 sales eventually went past 1 million copies, the other 2 titles had meh sales.

I just hope Braben's love for Elite will keep it running. Usually corporations are quite fast in removing any sources of losses
It's apples to oranges really, Elite is still in continual development so it can't really be compared to JWE2, which is meant to be a finished title - like a lot of those who are critical of Elite/Odyssey somewhat overlook. Though I agree that the shortfall has to be made up somewhere, though it's very evident that they fell a ways behind schedule on Odyssey, I'm going to put that down to covid lockdowns but there could be more to it than that. Either way, assuming that the plan is still go for Elite's full development arc, Odyssey will be fixed, then it's eyes on the console port (or not), and off to the next expansion.

There's too much pointless wandering about in SC.
FFED3D or oolite are better alternatives, X4 looks good too.
Not aimed specifically at you but it makes me laugh when we have wailing and gnashing of teeth about how FDev is bad for lack of FPS above what most consider to be decent and if Elite is canceled the recommendation is for a FFE homebrew port with 2002 era graphics and frame drops in its promo video. Though I guess FDev didn't make it, so it will be overlooked :) But that's just the passion to see Elite succeed on display, I'm sure!

If you look at the manifesto of the "A Call For Frontier To Put VR Legs On The Upcoming Road Map" thread, it was stated that "We would ask FDev to roadmap or otherwise clarify the plans for VR’s future. If roadmapped we would of course expect a later waypoint on the route, to ensure that Frontier can focus on fixing Odyssey's more pressing issues, for everyone's benefit." - So much for "I want it now" 🤔 All we are asking for is a pledge from the company to do a very small tweak to the game that ties up elements that we have already proven are within the games capability, and that they do so AFTER EVERYTHING ELSE.
I spoke with Jay and the reason he said "a later waypoint" rather than specify what would be coming before VR was he wasn't sure if the company would want to put VR into PC version before console port so they could port it to PS with support for PSVR2 on PS5 when they launched on console, or if they'd just want to get the console launch done then come back to VR.

And as for the hate, yeah, there's been a lot of that thrown in our direction, summer 2020 seen us getting called all sorts like "entitled boxhead whiners", even yet, in this very thread even we are getting told to go play other games, such community spirit.
It can be both to varying degrees. It shouldn't be overlooked that there are some with real legit gripes and then there are those with popcorn who, for whichever reason, are happy to see it all burn. It's difficult to tell the difference if everyone who tries to be positive about the situation is labeled a white knight, and everyone with legit complaints get defensive and ends up supporting those who are more interested in watching it all burn, putting themselves against those who are maybe seeking a more measured approach to the situation that doesn't end up with, say, a situation where FDev could be bought out and Elite canceled. But hey... as long as it can be claimed it was all done to make Elite better...

That's a lol too. I really can't comment on how and why FDev releases stuff, I really don't know..

I suspect it would have come over a lot better if they would have said: "Sorry, due to Covid we're running late, but we want to share our latest stuphz with you. We'll make a public beta that you can buy into, as a reward you'll get some exclusive ships like a Cobra mkIV and a Panther clipper." To me this would have come over a lot better, but would it have sold enough copies..? I really don't think it's possible that they didn't know that it had problems, maybe they underestimated how long it would take to fix it.

Galling as it all is, it's really nothing new and all in all I think we're on the way more cool things.
Hindsight is 20/20 but although I agree that it sounds better, they would have still caught flak to a greater or lesser degree. The choice obviously was who to pee off the least, and likely it was the investors who keep the lights on, with FDev hoping that the 'community' would be placated with 'yes, we have some teething problems, but we have a plan to keep working on it till it's where it needs to be", which I think can be read into their statements pre-release to that effect of "don't worry, there's more coming guys".

So, I started the game after a long while on my ps5, and… 3 new groundbreaking issues. No station service available on system map, no Access to the archives and logs and a logg on issue with the ground based. Thanks for that 😒

but hey still optimistic, perhaps we get an announcement for an announcement for an delayed announcement tomorrow 😜

Edit: the almighty ,,soon god,, will come and destroy you all 😂

Edit Edit: the mysterious ,,oddysee compatibility mode,, is still existing. Hopes here 😂

sorry but, my dissapointment is change to
Gallows humor. Apologize for that
