Buckyball Run 9: Move 'em out, let it roll!

Last but not least, Buckyball 9 hit a milestone tonight, having its 100th entry! CMDR Reload's Dat Asp was the race's 100th attempt so far with 54 individual commanders reporting in. Which means a few of you are nuts. We're not going to name names, you know who you are. But you're crazy. :D

Anyway, congrats Reload for being #100! For this momentous achievement, you are hereby awarded an Obsidian Orbital keychain and koozie as well as a coupon good for 15% off your next dining bill on the Shotgun Shine (not including alcohol.)

Well, at least I got something, if not a placement! I think I may have to just take advantage of that voucher... wait, not including booze? What sort of joint is this!?!

We are going for the highest position number... right????

My Sidewinder entry upload might be delayed I am having issues with the video editor to cut it down

At least for the time submission you can grab screenshots out of your video too. Found that to be the easiest way, especially when you do multiple attempts in a short time.

Attempt number 2 made (In the Brown Clag - ha!).

It was number two as well - interdicted, masslocked, navigation :):):):) up half way through - Arrrggghhh! it's so frustrating, oh for a simple problem free run!

Well I did manage to finally make it back for another run before the live event. The first run in Isil was going to knock off at least a minute of my time and then, deja vu, 2Ls from Obsidian Orbital I get interdicted  I actually managed to escape this time and docked only 10 seconds after my last attempt :D The second run improved only by 20 seconds or so, so I'm not sure if it will even move me up the board at all.

Then just to appease Bucky, I went against all I know and ran a Hauler in... Solo... I hope he's happy. I have no idea what time a hauler should make it in, I have no idea what the best loadout arrangement would have been, but I've got a time and if it doesn't put me last I'll be Happy :D

Ship Class: Hauler
Ship Name: The Littlest Hobo

Interdictions in Maia seem to be a frequent problem in this race. Despite that I've only been interdicted once so far (also about 5ls from Obsidian Orbital) in at least 11 attempts in different ships. I don't really know how it exactly correlates with the approach strategy/angle/speed, but it seems to me that a fast approach with a loop makes it less likely :)
Or maybe I just had luck. Doesn't happen often, but it's possible.

My first attempt at Buckyball Racing!

Your commander's name:
Avayu
Ship Name: Von Humboldt
Ship Type and race class (Unlimited or Hauler, Open or Solo/Private): Asp Explorer (Unlimited Open)
"Who is your personal sci-fi/fantasy hero?" : Dr. Daniel Jackson

I should finally be able to make an open mode run in a couple of hours (first run since the Live Event).

So you might all be best taking care around the Obsidian Orbital slot - docking isn't my strong point, but I deserve at least 9/10 for over-enthusiasm. :D

Welcome, CMDR! Fly fast :D
I feel like I did rather well ... for a first try. Countless nights of "I'm just going to take a short look at that nebula a thousand lightyears over there before going to bed" seem to have taught me a bit about how to scoop and jump efficiently.
I lost quite a bit of time scooping a little bit too long about fours jumps out from Maia and then I overshot the finish line and dropped out of supercruise about 500km away from Obsidian Orbital. Other than that, it went quite well.

Hauler Solo complete!

not the best time as my tiny fuel tank didn't like to double unscoopables around half way and i had to make an emergency detour.

ho hum, off to Alacarakmo before tomorrow's live run.

fly fearless CMDRs
<-lightspeed->

I find the lack of Cobras disturbing.

Ship name: Millennium Faulcon
Type and class: Cobra Mk III (Unlimited Solo)

Time already submitted, 7 jumps and almost 5 minutes shy of my DBX run, but scooping in the Cobra is far more fun than in the DBX...while the latter keeps cool sipping fuel with a tea spoon, the Cobra shovels hydrogen down its alloy throat with reckless abandon. :)

I also had another go at the Hauler run...if my estimates are right, Alot and Cookiehole should worry not

So the live event is tomorrow at 21:00...at first I thought "great, I'll have to go and pick my girlfriend up at her workplace at 22:00, plenty of time for this!"...then I realized that I'm in the GMT +1 timezone :(...have fun you reckless buckyballers, and please don't ram yourselves too hard against each other. Or maybe, please do. :p

Bucky's sad Hauler - Solo table inspired me to make a run. Miri performed exceptionally. The only non scoopable on the run was one I needed to scoop from, would've been a great run if not for that diversion. =(

Was thinking about this during the week and what the hell, I'll have a run tomorrow. I'll definitely do one in solo and I'm also considering one in open since my rebuy costs won't be too terrible if it all goes wrong. Note: Rebuy will also be a distinct possibility in solo with the ship I'm going to use :D

Commander name: Red Anders
Ship type: Asp
Ship name: Dat Asp
Class: Unlimited - solo (and possibly Unlimited - open)
Personal sci-fi hero: Bender

No need to mince words. We're on the home stretch. The train is pulling into the station. We're down to the wire. It's the beginning of the end. The fat lady is warming up.

Buckyball Run 9 is coming to a close.

As tradition dictates, I've pulled back the veil of secrecy and revealed everyone's times for two reasons. 1, it gives everybody a chance to evaluate if they can make a final run and snipe their way to victory, and 2, it gives everyone a chance to make sure that in the HIGHLY UNLIKELY case of an error in reporting time that it is corrected before the final tally. Even then, there is a 24 hour period after the race ends for any disputes to be brought before the race commission.

And finally, and to prepare for possibly the oldest and most hallowed rule of the Buckyball Run, it allows those who plan to finish first to prepare their bank accounts to pay the bar tabs of the other racers, because as is well known amongst Buckyballers, the winners buy the drinks...

So on to Open Unlimited. Cookiehole maintains a healthy thirty-three second lead going into the final day, but Reload in Dat Asp made a last minute push to jump to third, lagging only 36 seconds behind. Cheetah's Asp Sleeper Awakes made a jump up to 6th, with Raiko's classic entry The Nomad making an impressive debut at 9th. Ozric's Asp Isil closed the gap to take 12th, just under two minutes out of first. First-time Buckyballer Avayu made an impressive splash with an 18:42 run in the Von Humbolt, and in spite of an interdiction, Badweasel lopped two whole minutes off his time to bring The Brown Clag in at 18:53.

A trio of rookies also finished the Run in sequential order, with NordicLion's Asp Amelia barely beating out Tayo's Sidey D-Minus by a scant 16 seconds, followed by AntiDisco's Imperial Eagle Dark Comet, the last two setting end-to-end records for their ship type crossing the bubble.

Finally in Open we had CMDR Snake__Venom in the Asp Krikkit Two finishing the Run and avoiding a dreaded DNF in spite of a spate of bad luck including a complete temporary loss of temporal existence (AKA a computer crash) during which time Venom kept the clock running and continued the run. While his time may have suffered during this time, his honor was validated upon touchdown at Obsidian Orbital. Well done, CMDR. o7

In Solo Unlimted, Aken B. provided the only new time, establishing the end-to-end Trans-Bubble record for the classic Cobra Mk III with a time of 20:57 in the Millennium Faulcon]. Wherever he might be, CMDR Jameson has to be smiling. However, CMDR Kligg Jr. of the Asp Grey Mullet still holds the top uncontested time of 15:43. This is of course subject to change pending the Live run scheduled later today...

CMDR Aken B. also posted the only Open Hauler time, jumping to 3rd place in the Not Safe For Work. CMDR Cookiehole, meanwhile, still holds the top slot at 15:44, just a ship length ahead of three-time Buckyball champion CMDR Alot, who has been conspicuously absent these last few days of racing...

Lastly, in Solo Hauler, we had three commanders simultaneously looking to suck up to Bucky while pursuing an easy BBR Championship reverse dot. ;) CMDR Lightspeed came closest with a run one minute shy of Cookiehole in the Your Wife Looks Good In This, followed by Freedom4556's Miri in sixth place and Ozric's Littlest Hobo in 7th. Bucky appreciates your efforts, CMDRs, but like most anybody he loves a winner, and for right now that is CMDR Cookiehole.

So there we have it, with less than 24 hours to go in BBR9. Don't forget that we're having another live run from Garden Enterprise to Obsidian Orbital launching at 21:00 Galactic Time on Saturday. This run will count toward the Solo/Private leaderboard as well as its own BBR9 Live leaderboard with a special custom dot, plus it's a great chance to hobnob with your fellow competitors. It was tremendous fun when we tried it out last week, so it should be double the fun the second time around! Check out the end of the first post for all the details. I plan to be online between 1900-2000 hours ahead of time to accept any last-minute private group requests or just to gab with anybody who cares to via IRC or teamspeak.

See you all aboard the Shotgun Shine for the after-party! With my current times posted, I don't believe I'll be needing to bring my credit chit... ;)

EDIT: FoxTwo! Oh my goodness, I thought I was gonna have to cancel BBR9 before the final run if you didn't show up. You were in the pre-pre-race thread, got first post and everything and then disappeared. Folks, CMDR FoxTwo is the only other Buckyballer besides yours truly to possess the entire Buckyball Bumpersticker collection going all the way back to Buckyball 1. Assuming he finishes BBR9 in his Cobra Mk IV (and there's no reason to assume he won't, he's stubborn like that) he will collect his 9th dot, including the star for the Buckyball A*. Plus he brings a rather fetching fan club with him to the after party, which is never a bad thing... Welcome back F2! See you on the Shine!
