Can we please fix the federal dropship.

I really enjoy the federal medium ships. My favorite one is the dropship. It just has 1 major issue, its jump range is abysmal.

There is a simple solution to this problem. It has a hull mass of 580T. The ANACONDA has a hull mass of 400T, 180 less than a ship a bit more tyan half its size. (See pic)

The dropship has Class 5 Frame shift drive typical of most medium ships.
The mass of a python (longest medium ship) is 350T, the mass of a Krait MK II is 320T, the mass of a Type 7 (a literal brick and a Large ship) is 350T, the mass of an Imperial clipper is 400T (another large ship) and finally the mass of a chieftain is 400T.

Compared to its peers (many of which have more internals) the dropship is 180T heavier. Please reduce the mass to between 325 and 400T to make it the great multi purpose ship i know it can be. This ship has so much potential. I feel like it is an awesone all rounder blindsided by a barely usable jump range.

I daresay it has far more issues than that. It's slower, less maneuverable, and has less damage than any ship in its weight class.

In a way, it's similar to the clipper, except at least the Clipper has insane speed and a Class 7 optional. Heck, the Clipper even has more DPS. And the Clipper does not have good DPS.

I'll agree with your suggestion, but only because it's one of the many, many things the dropships needs to become halfway decent.

Yeah but i use it as a plant scan ship. Its fast enough for me (489 M/s) i kinda like its handling, and its 4 C2 and 1 C3 hardpoint are enough for its price. If u want the guns the FGS is there. I see it as a multi purpose over a combat ship.

Oh and clipper is very wide, not good looking and requires a large pad to land. Lower mass will make it faster and less drifty. Damage still will be fairly low but by reducing mass u fix 3 issues. Handling, speed, jump range

I agree needs some love.
I personally really dislike it, is not the jump range is the agility. I put A-rated thrusters, and then even G5 dirty thrusters, still horrible. A vanilla Challenger or Crusader (same armor, same size thrusters, slightly lighter only by 80t) with A-rated handled substantially better.

DPS is fine, has more than the Clipper isn't it? 4 mediums + 1 Large is "better" than 2 Large + 2 meds.
I like the hardpoints, convergence is decent, decent optionals for the price range. But man those thrusters.

Lower mass would fix the drifting and low turn rate. Its too heavy for those thrusters. With that weight it really should have a C7 thrusters. It overburdens the C6 on turns leading to immense cutter level drifting

Dropship is a great ship and just fine as it is. Great for planetary work. I even went exploring in one years ago.

Now, let's talk about the stupidly low hull mass of the Anaconda.... that needs a good bump upwards. Nerf the Anaconda!
I can't stand the dropship's 35 ly jump with the 2x engineer FSD, non shielded, no optional (except for 5H FSD booster)

a drop ship should be built like a tank, to ferry units to the ground under fire. It doesn't need to do much else good.

So, as long as all of that mass is balanced to provide a lot of hull to have to eat thru to disable the ship....then the only real fix the drop ship needs, is something to actually drop in the game.

I presume you have fitted a Guardian FSD booster somewhere, right? :alien:
Yup a 5H booster and the 2x engineer FSD V1 and no other optionals. A whole 37 ly jump range with undersize thrusters, d rate light life suppprt. Smallest cores that will.work, a 4D distributor, 5D thrusters dirty g1 strip down. 4D Power plant OC G2 strip down. Can't get much lighter than tyat

Pfft, i had about 20 LY range when i went exploring in mine. And back then we couldn't even fit extra fuel tanks. It was refuel every 2-3 jumps or risk running out of fuel.

Still went 14K LY in it and tagged a load of cool systems.

Within the bubble its not like you need huge range anyway. Ourside the bubble, if exploring, i've always found quality > quantity. That is, checking promising looking systems rather than rushing as fast as possible to some distant location.

Its a multi purpose incapable of going anywhere thats not next door. Cant drop something if it expires by the time u get tyere

I disagree i want a ship that i can get to my destination quickly then do small jumps when i get there. If i want to explore near sag a i dont want to do 900 jumps. I like quick transit then take my time and check out my destination

Why would you equip a drop ship to travel long distance? That's not what you do with a drop ship.

You carry it to where you need it or deploy it from a nearby base and then drop what you need to ..or pick up what you need to.

It shouldn't be multi-purpose. It should be a military-type vessel with a specific purpose of unloading or loading assets in a hostile environment.

We have enough multi-purpose ships.
