Chieftain Size and perhaps other specs

Taking the cockpit interior as reference, it doesn't seem like a large ship at all (I'm not complaining).

The Chieftain cockpit front view:

The same angle for the Asp Explorer:

I would love a ship around hte side of the dropship or gunship but we already have those, with 9 utility's and a crew of 3 that is clearly big 3 or soon to be big 4 territory

Yeah, the cockpit seems a lot smaler then that of the T9 based on pics we have. You can take the seat as reference:

Now compare that with the T9:

Not the best screenshot of the T9 for comparsion but I think its pretty clear already, the example in the op seems to match much better. But then again, we have just concept so far so who knows. I take any size :D

The grey box is not like concept art though, a grey box is normally what WILL be used, size, hard point placement etc. The first image is concept but the grey box is what we will see so getting things like dimensions while hard can be done just as weapon placement, utility count etc can be seen.

I created this image after seeing various estimates of how big folks thought the Chieftain was.

I realised this could be done by using the human scale reference in some of the scale images.
What I didn't realise when making it was actually how small the Chieftain really is.
I think the Chieftain has the largest cockpit size to number of human ratio on any ship.
It seems to be not much larger than a keelback and would fit comfortably in the dimensions of an Asp explorer.
What most interesting about it is that it is shown as a 3 person ship. Only time will tell if that is true.

What we can also tell from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfBn-NWh0z0

is that it seems that the Chieftain has 4 size 2 hardpoints on the top and 2 utility slots.

What else have you noticed?

I really love the engines-on-the-wings look of this. It does to me look like its designed with (partial) atmospheric flight in mind.

I seriously doubt that FD will break with the number 8. Size 8 as max for modules, 8 utilities max, even 8 guns max so far.

This is false, the Anaconda has 10 utility slots as does the corvette, they are simply not usable.

I think it's a paintover of the greybox tho...

edit: I think I'm wrong on that. the model seems to lack the bent strut.

It does indeed seem like a model, not just concept art.

The 9 utility slots are indeed intriguing and hint towards a large ship, however, the visible weapons seem class 2 at most (the AspX also has 6 weapons), and the cockpit/chair vs the ship's profile don't look like a large ship. I still think its a medium ship, and the OP's image seems to be a somewhat accurate prediction (IMO of course).

I guess we'll only know for sure in 6 months time (assuming it's part of the Q1 release).

THe only thing certain at this point is that the ship is damn sexy!

Come on, what is really necessary to bring salt into this discussion?

Those are class 3 weapons on the top, there are two slots for weapons on the bottom and if the side is assumed correct that it is indeed large, the two weapon slots on the bottom would be large weapons, this brings us to 6 large weapons... that is defiantly large ship fire power.

Might possibly be a large ship, but the OP is closer to correct than those saying it'll be as large as a T9. It will be slightly bigger than an FDL. Just look at the C2 hardpoints. It's nowhere near a T9. The wide nacelles might still but it on a large landing pad, but I suspect it'll be at the top end of Medium ships.

It does look rather more a competitor for the Keelback than my hoped-for Python-class ship - of which we are badly in need of, imho.

Stop it with the cutting repartee? Ouch! I'll think twice about engaging you in forum PvP again!

Besides we don't have a hierarchical structure anyway... everyone who is a member is a dog, pups are prospective members, big dogs are our original members... for the vulture comment, I killed about 6 of them today... so I would say its going good!

as we've spoken on reddit on this.

I disagree on them being class 3.

I think they're class 2 slots on top. admittedly they're not using any weapon I've ever seen. (maybe torpedos?)

To add for folks who aren't following our discussion on the subreddit, The Asp, a medium ship does have 6 weapons.

I had a look and I think the middle most slot is a lot larger than the other slots so I don't think it's the same as the rest.

So it's likely it's still 8 utility slots...

If it were 9 utility slots... would that mean this ship could be a utility ship of some sort? Given it's a multicrew ship (and still saying medium) it could be why it has that many utility slots.

Kraite is medium pad, confirmed by Sandro, so possibly a less combat capable Python. Cheiftan will probably end up needing large pads due to its outriggers, even if the body is in fdl/dropship size.

About what I expected, and glad, it''s a tank ship, I'll be looking forward to getting my grubby paws on one.
