Cobra Mk V in-game availability?

FDev livestream, Jul 31 2024, while announcing the Type-8:
Must have been missed that. Oh well. But it does not change the fact, they cannot keep thier words.

Now then, it can be argued if that very comment about T8, should be viewed as "promise" or not...
I found it funny, and very Frontier like, for them say "I think"... yet they where 3 weeks late in case of T8, thus the word was not kept. Later it got worse, and trend is that every ship is being relased much later than previous one.

With respect, Your Holiness, You need further work on Your Infallibility ;-)
I try my best

FDev livestream, Jul 31 2024, while announcing the Type-8:

It went into early access 7th Aug and on general release 28 Nov, so 3 months and 3 weeks as it turned out.

It seems likely to me their schedule slippage on this is the reason they stopped announcing dates.

For reference, Mandalay was EA on 31 Oct 2024 and out for credits on 26 Feb 2025 - just shy of 4 months, and with the Cobra V featuring in the current gamestore sale, ending May 1st, it looks set to pass 4 and a half months from its EA date of 12 Dec 2024.

Is this clear evidence of evil Machiavellian marketing from FDev? I think I'd rather go with a modified Hanlon's razor: Never attribute to malice what can be explained by Hofstadter's Law.
But what do you mean takes longer? Development is already finished, the ship is in the game. There are no unforeseen delays. It's simply Frontier's decision when to make it available for credits.

Its very clear that for each new ship, the timeline for "credit debut" is simply very next patch update, and Frontier clearly cant dish out those, every 3 months, as given amount of few last updates, there is one meaningfull update every 4 months or so, if not longer.
a logical assumption however if that was the case then the Cobra V would have come into credit purchasing in the last patch we had a week or so back, however it didnt.

imo its another case of the slippery slope "fallacy" ending up being true. Something launches which a significant number wont be happy about but the argument "its not that bad" is used and anyone suggesting thin end of the wedge gets shot down........... then over time the stick gets larger and the carrot smaller. (stick in this case being the time in early access, the carrot being able to earn 400 ARX in game - ARX which has been massively devalued since initial inception - and the way FD did it was in the worst possible way, by increasing the ARX cost of stuff rather than being more transparent and increasing the cost of ARX which would have at least not gimped peoples existing ARX bags or the "free" ARX earning in game)

happens lots of times, not just in elite, and hell not just in gaming either.

in terms of scale Frontier are very much in the "not taking the .... too much" (imo of course) ................. but what it is they doing doing is the same practices as other more money grubbing companies some of which get lambasted on these forums however, the logic is the same, its just that at the moment the scale not as egregious however where that line gets crossed is subjective from 1 player to the next and FD are heading in the wrong direction.

1 month?, 3 months?, 6 months? or a year? and how much should a ship in EA cost £1, £5 or £10 etc (or £10,000.... but like the meme says, never go full CIG!) ............ at some point a ship in "early access" may as well be considered purchasable by out of game currency only***.

*** and no for me 400 arx a week does not negate that when something costs tens of 1000s of arx

For myself I will buy ships I'm purely using for exploration, and therefore not interacting with anyone. Anything which I'll be using primarily around the Bubble is for credits.
As such I have 2 Mandalays for my Main and Exploration Alt and a CbrV for my Exploration Alt.
I'm waiting for it to go Credits for my Main and Bubble Alt.
Hopefully it will release with the next FU...

buying ships in EA in elite is a bit like buying new nvidia GPUs..... IF you are gonna buy one you may as well buy it day 1.
I agree and that’s why I won’t purchase the Corsair for ARX, ever (see post #17). Missed opportunity for FDev but their decision. I guess they’re still making a ton of money from the EA (E probably stands for “Extended period” here). Fine, I’m old enough to remain patient. Will get both ships in game eventually, the mkV in a couple months, the Corsair in a couple years…

Have Frontier actually ever specifically said the Cobra MkV would be available just for credits at some point? The 'E' might also stand for "Exclusive". 😉

Now they are trying out a longer early access period. At the end of the day, the release cycle will balance itself out. There's an optimum of financial influx over time and maybe FDev is going to realise that perhaps 3, 4 or 6 months is ideal and they will release new ships in that cycle. 'Missed opportunity for FDev'? They are not dependent on you or me as a single entity but on a large player base.

Not to my knowledge (which is very limited, I admit), but, in my mormal & caring fashion, to me it doesn't matter, I bought it for Arx anyway... (but am limiting it to my main active account nowadays, since the real price of doing so on all my accounts would be prohibitive in my view)
Still cheaper to buy each new ship when they arrive than going down a subscription route - particularly when having more than one active account!

No, clearly not as I haven't given Frontier a bean since 2019. Not liable to get any more either with their recent antics.

Perception, emotions, principles. All very complicated stuff. I'm sure there are CMDRs out there who complain about EA ships but would happily pay a monthly subscription. 🤷‍♂️

Paul stated it was in 'Early Access', that would imply a time limit. If there was any change I would expect a seperate statement, though of course they could just keep an alpha running indefinately...

I genuinely hope FDev are satisfied with the way this is working out.

To a greater or lesser extent, they've always seemed to rely on a "let people decide how much money they want to give us" business model and that's an attitude worthy of appreciation.

No matter how you slice it, ~10€ every ~3 months for a new ship works out much cheaper than most subscription services. Plus if you're patient, you can wait for a sale. And you don't have to buy all the new ships—I only bought Cobra V standard (because I don't much like the Stellar ship kit or paintjob) on Easter sale, plus Planar Lime paintjob for it. Never bothered with buying any others during the EA, because while they're good and great fun, they aren't the gamechanging "must-haves". MKV is different, it isn't really gamechanging either, but it just "speaks" to me as the definitive small "rogue" ship and it's up there with Mamba as one of the best looking ships in game. And even then, I didn't bother to get it on day 1 since I was having too much fun with PII and later Mandalay as they came out of EA🙂

... however people sometimes have multiple accounts - even me, new as I am, couldn't resist buying in the Steam sale to have an alt commander. (I have no idea how to find the time to play both - I don't know how people with more alts manage.)
