Colonisation - new feature, and I love it!

Wow

I started my own loreplay colonisation in Arcadia system: Lyaiso YW-B b13-5, and sent there two carriers - outfitted as a space station. I made lore for that, some funny stories, and prepared an expredition (1-Nov - start) to the Arcadia.

And NOW, today, so great information. Colonisation! Frontier, you have read my mind!

Now I just wonder few things:
  • What will be minimal distance from habitated systems (I hope not only from the Bubble), because closest habitated system is almost 20.000 Ly from Arcadia hahaha :)
  • How much ARX I need to prepare hahaha :)

Me too. As long as we don't have a repeat of what happened when 'first footfall' was announced - i.e. you update the game, it crashes repeatedly, and when you are finally able to log in you find every system in and near the bubble has already been claimed!

I don't worry before something happens :)

I love how the actual feature turned out to be bigger than what many were speculating.

Exactly. I had a little hope for simple base buildling, not entire colonisation feature :D

3 months and the Mandalay will be released, then i'm off looking for a likely system to expand to.

The only thing we ideally need to know is how far can we expand to a system (it was mentioned there would be limits). Maybe we will find that out on next month's stream.

My concerns are:

1) System upkeep... please dear gods of development, please no upkeep, especially offline upkeep.

2) Deliver umptilion units of X to make phase 1 happen, then ultratrillion of Y to make phase 2. Try and make it a little more interesting than that. I know its going to be a component, probably a big one, but add some variety and no insane numbers.

The galaxy is a huge place, every active player could claim a system and the amount would probably still be smaller than the bubble (approx 20,000 systems).

Will base building be part of colonization? They said that you first colonize the system by building a station, then you decide if or what you want to build out in the rest of the system. So then how flexible is that ... will you have preset templates that you can build on or around planets, or can you actually place stuff?

The questions I have:
  • can players attack / damage / destroy player made bases?
  • Can player steal the power regulator from player made bases?

- if yes, what will be the consequences?

And:
- can players use basebuilding to create "Coruscant"
I presume you will be able to name your own settlements / stations

I suspect there will be no placement of buildings and designing your own bases or stations. I think it will be more some limited choice of what layout you want, possibly by chosing what sort of installations you want, and it pulls the design from the standard templates.

Looking forward to finding out how much control we'll have over the placement of settlements and ground ports. It would be cool to be able to place things in an interesting spot.

It would be super nice.

I hope we will know more next month after Frontier Unlocked. I know there is big potential for BGS, PowerPlay, or PvP, but I see this ato most as an exploration feature. Of course it is both.
Knowing how kids on the internet can be sometimes, you might wanna consider editing the name of the system out of your post until you can make sure to grab it. Unfortunately.

But I'm excited for you and your plans for the system!

I will think about that if it happens. We call it Arcadia with friends, but know it is just Lyaiso YW-B b13-5

I have similar questions relating to BGS, like if you colonise a system will you be able to set the government, are minor factions created to go with it and will they behave like regular minor factions, is the system subject to or exempt from BGS expansions for those who would rather not put all that effort into colonising a system only to have some PMF barge in and plant a big flag on it, and so on.

I wonder how far we can get do colonisation, or maybe it must be reachable in the meaning of transport a lot of cargo, so you can do it far away, but needs a lot of effort. It would be pretty fun IMO. I love jumping carrier :D

As far as I understand it is a part of colonisation, and you can choose settlement/base type, what affects economy.

So have the details of this been released yet? If so, where can a real them?

Next month we will have more details.
