Quite disappointing, but ultimately that is what a lot of influential community members have asked for. Can I get stations on fire? I want to run as emergency services again..
 
Communtiy asks for more effort to 'fix' things.
Where does said communtiy think that effort will come from out of a full dev schedule?
When making up late work in school, the school expects one to keep up with current assignments as well do they not? All assignments are expected to be on time throughout the entirety of everyone's education. Why then is it so unimportant once we leave school to be paid for our efforts instead.

This is more social commentary then a stab at fdev but they were present when I started stabbing so.....

I would like to use this thread to tell you about the difficults the various communities have.
Holding for the begin a medium/large community/squadron/pmf our great problem is to keep the interest alive. We say to our members we have to goal to arrive in the YYY system, then we say them we want to have more systems then the other pmfs, then we have decided to support a PP, then to reaise a new great super powerful epic coalition etc.
In this years we have probably squeezed every possible application of ingame dynamic, putting on it a "meaning" helping us to create a gameplay, not existing in game; every single day we take the in game basic dynamics and give them a meaning, scheduling missions, wars, sabotages, etc etc.. the same things from years and years.
The truth we have no more ideas. The truth is except some historical players, the other ones loose interest in not more than a year.
In all this huge and difficult work you are doing, we really should need something to keep our groups alive, something for playing in group. Pmfs still are far from squadrons, "our" space is not "our"; no real reasons to have a "politic" and a "diplomacy".. so.. good to hear we will have future bugs free expansions, and thank you for this.. but we need something to let us keeping game together as groups.

At least the decision was made to at least try and repay some of the technical debt accumulated so far - a decision I much approve and support, though it will only materialize in something meaningful if a significant amount of resources are allocated for it - otherwise it will be all for nothing.
But... it´s the very same decision they sold us a year ago and two years ago. Too bad they never deliver!

Fleet carriers were delayed from last year already and there ice planets were supposed to get a refresh and that seems to have just be forgotten about.

It makes sense that you hang back to fix bugs I get it, no one with common sense thinks this is a deliberate mistake but from the outside it does look like more of the same and those optics look like bad management and process here.

ObsAnt released a video showing a potential proof of concept (might be fake) but looking at the current state of process of the development of the game and the fact that your delaying fleet Carriers again who could believe that we'll get any of the ideas from that video, does anyone believe right now that FD could deliver on any one of Atmospherics, bases or space legs let alone all three.

So what is there to be hopeful about the game right now, I love ED I want it to be great but patience is running out in the community. I think you need to start being more open with the intentions for the game, not promises but more detail for the road map. We need something more then bug fixes to hold the player base, at the very least the cost of a fleet carriers so we know what we might be working towards would be better. If we have no hope on the future of the game and the player base leaves you'll not need to fix the bugs cause we'll be playing the new games coming. We need a carrot to keep interest at the very least

well, a lot of people have been playing recently just to make money for the fabled fleet carriers, myself included.
I appreciate that things are complicated, development isn't easy etc, but there is a danger here of hitting critical mass dissapointment.
We didn't get ice planets and we didn't get fleet carriers in 2018.
We now won't get fleet carriers in 2019. It's back to 2 years without any major updates, that's dangerous when it comes to keeping players engaged.
If im honest, i dont care that much about fleet carriers, the important thing really is that it felt like something new being added to the game.

I understand that bug fixes are good, and QOL improvements are always welcome. The sad thing is that it isn't going to keep me gripped and looking forward to logging in.

There is a way to compensate for this though. Add more narrative and gameplay that doesnt need major development. Really ramp up those initiatives, have multiple story elements going on at once that we can engage in, breadcrumb trails, treasure hunts etc etc, even if it has to be scripted events, just as long as it feels like something filling the void until the next big thing comes along. Remember the formidine rift? The INRA base hunts? the science puzzles? give us more of that please :) Maybe this would be a good time to hide a few new things around the galaxy as well and get those rumours working so we want to go find out about them, knowing there are mysterious things to discover always cheers me up :)

However, thanks for the update, i hope you guys get everything sorted out, you might get criticism but more of this sort of engagement would be appreciated by most people :)
 
As a result of our updated plans, we have made the difficult decision to defer the release of Fleet Carriers.

Absolutely understandable. Players have been screaming for bug fixes and to deliver that, resources have to be diverted. It's a disappointment that we'll have to wait longer for this exciting feature, but I think it's the right call.

If you can see yourself clear to answer some of the community questions regarding carriers, that would be much appreciated.
 
I expected this to happen but I'm glad you are fixing the bugs - Wing Mining - hopefully this will make a better game. Maybe you could keep us updated with the top bugs you are working on so we're not just left in the dark. That way the community can help you diagnose some of the issues.

Same here. Our group went from 200 to oblivion. You can only do so much in this game. And it´s been done... over and over and over again.
