OP literally says new era is on time. But we will see

In true FD speak, that is kinda correct. It was 'second half of 2020', that is now 'end of 2020'. And postponing something that supposedly was nearly done by eight months, just to 'fix bugs' (no details provided whatsoever), which itself is an excuse they already used earlier, just has a nasty CIG vibe to it.

So far the only thing they are clear about while hitting the targets is their attempts to sell us stuff, which broke even more actually relevant stuff. Good for them, but all I see is again less delivery and more hollow words.

So that'll be rdr2 and not planet Zoo for me. :)

Thanks for the update Will.

Of course I'm disappointed, I was really looking forward to the Fleet Carriers. OTOH after the september release I thought to myself: management at FDEV needs to take a hard look at the project because clearly something is not going well. I didn't think of Fleet Carriers getting postponed because I thought they were the main feature to drive the christmas sales of 2019. That they did get postponed says something about how important FDEV think it is to fix the current issues in the game. I really appreciate that. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating of course.

Meh. I saw this thread linked elsewhere and figured I'd either be angry or sympathetic towards Frontier when I read the statement, but it turns out I'm neither. ED remains as it's always been, and as I suspect it will always be, a flawed masterpiece. Not close to the dream of the Dev Diaries or the DDF, but still the best version of the 35-year-old Elite universe. I'll continue to dip in and out of it, blasting around the bubble with one account or drifting zen-like through the cosmos with the other. Fleet carriers would have been an interesting temporary diversion, but were never going to be a game-changer for me. So yeah, it's a solid meh from me.

I will stand by what I said three years ago, though. We're never getting atmospheric landings on Earthlike worlds or similar, and I'm not very bullish about space legs either. The foliage in Jurassic World and the crowd simulation in Planet Coaster are red herrings. The Cobra engine might be capable, but as utilised in the five-year-old ED core I doubt it has the grunt, or FD the resources, to pull any of that stuff off.

As ever, I remain happy to be proven wrong.

Oh, and to add further insult you're going to say sweet adams [...]
Now that did make me smile. Using a euphemism to work around the puritan swear filter, only to have it filter out part of the euphemism. Never change, Frontier.

Ooof, I look back into an old thread from April, it really is Deja Vu......

This almost feels like ARX are not delivering the revenue that they had hoped

The fact that the direct store does not exist temporarily and that it is necessary to connect to the game to access this store, makes Frontier lose customers for kits and paintjobs etc ... I do not know if that's the reason but it will not surprise me.

Once upon a time I was supposed to write a technical document for work.
It was quite a "big job" but I knew I'd be able to just copy/paste most of it from a pre-existing document so I put it off for weeks with the intention of doing it the weekend before I had to submit it.
The weekend came, the missus was away and I set about working on the document.
And then there was a power-cut, which lasted most of the weekend, meaning that I couldn't do any of the work.

Boy was that an awkward meeting, on the Monday morning.

I find myself reminded of that incident for some reason. 😐

Greetings Commanders,

Following the launch of the September Update last month, we’d like to provide you all with an update on our plans for Elite Dangerous.

Firstly, thank you for all of your feedback on the September Update, which you've shared with us on the forums, across social media, on livestreams and through the Issue Tracker. There is no doubt that, in addition to the new features, the September Update introduced a number of issues and bugs which caused a lot of frustration. We are really sorry for these issues. We realise that some of the issues had an impact on your ability to enjoy Elite Dangerous. The team have been working hard to address the most critical issues and have already released a series of patches and updates to bring those fixes in as quickly as possible.

However, we know there's more to be done. You've asked for more focus on existing bug/fixes and issues, and for the community to be better integrated into the development process and testing for these upcoming updates.

In order to improve your overall experience, we have decided to refocus our efforts on addressing key issues and bugs. Since the launch of the September Update, we've been taking a deeper look at our internal development roadmap, the way in which we utilise public betas, and the content of our next updates.

Here is a summary of our plans:
  • From now and into next year (2020), the updates will focus almost exclusively on addressing recent and longstanding issues, including those reported in the Issue Tracker, ultimately making the game better.
  • We are expecting to have a series of these updates, which will be rolled out (approximately) every three to four months.
  • Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.
  • The first of these updates will have its public beta in December, with an expectation that the launch will be early in 2020.
As a result of our updated plans, we have made the difficult decision to defer the release of Fleet Carriers. We are now planning for Fleet Carriers to be released in an update in the second quarter of 2020, rather than in December 2019 as previously stated. This will grant us additional time to refine the feature as well as focusing time on addressing existing reported issues. It will also ensure the state of the game is in a better position to introduce Fleet Carriers, that will provide Commanders even more opportunities to interact with the Milky Way. We understand that this delay will be disappointing for some players, but do know that this decision is one that we do not take lightly, and is made with the best interests of the community and game at heart.

Ultimately, we are confident that this will improve the Elite Dangerous experience for all our players.

The team have been hard at work on the next major milestone, which you may remember we mentioned back in March as our next major paid addition to the game. They’re making fantastic progress and on schedule for release by the end of next year. We are very excited to show you what we’ve been working on. However, we can only announce the content when it’s at the right stage of development, we estimate this will be ready to talk about at some time in summer 2020, after the Fleet Carriers update. We appreciate there is a bit of a wait, but we want to make sure it is ready to be shown before making our full official announcement to the world.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing and continued support and for helping give us the feedback, steer and insight to make decisions that will benefit the entire community and for your continued passion and dedication.
Well, can't say I'm not disappointed with the Fleet Carrier delay but, this sounds like a good choice for the long term and it must have been pretty agonising to make. So good on you all at FD.

Oh come on, you don't let your customers dictate a strategion for you, or determine when its time to change to another :)

well, they always said they listen to the community! ;)

you have a point. e.g. the beta fuss just smells like politics and a clear hint at the last demonstration. i told them 'beta' was a loaded request but they wouldn't listen :ROFLMAO: in any case i see nothing wrong with a company coming forward and committing to mend their ways, regardless if this was their own initiative or just damage control. also, players have voiced questions and ... well, an answer is what you would expect! in any case it's the proper thing to do if the product has to live on in good health, this benefits everyone, and now what's important is to watch how this actually plays out.

I really do hope that you'll ALSO focus on the game balance & issues because there are bugs but there are also plenty of balance issues and things that could be improved until fleet carriers comes in Q2 2020...

...no news about the next era before summer 2020 ? =O This will be a long run without ...

So much whinging. You ask for bugs to be fixed, that's what is happening. That, however, comes at the cost of new content.
If you want new content you don't get bugs fixed.

ONE OR THE OTHER. Stop your complaining. Don't like it ? Go play Star Citizen or something else. Want to support FDev ? Stick around - I know I will be.
awesomely true☮️
You are obviously from Awesometown.

I'm all for bug fixes and we really do need things running smoother. But to postpone fleet carriers another 6 months after previously delaying them for a year really sux. I'm very disappointed about it
Forum has been blowing up for months about bugs and to fix the bugs. Devs say sounds good, we start fixing code now and delay an optional feature.

The only people who can afford or want Fleet Carriers are the whales who grind/exploit for billions of credits to purchase said carriers.

Kudos to FD for even speaking to us after the miriad ways we malign and denigrate them.

Thanks Cmdr Wilbur 🖖

Having worked most of my adult life in and around the software industry there are a lot of things about this that do not ring true. They are 6 weeks or less away from releasing the update. The majority of the work is done. They should be in the testing phase at this point. Something is majorly broken with the carriers or the intended implementation. Most of the long standing open bugs are not major bugs or are tied directly to core mechanics and can't be fixed. The issues with instances and multi-crew are directly tied to the distributed nature of the game and probably can't be fixed with the code as is. If they are pulling the entire team away from carriers to bug fixes it means that they have not had a bug fix team at all up to this point. If there were truly so many game breaking bugs that it needed a 6 month pause in content they would be pulling people from "new era" because the code is so unstable that the project is in danger of collapsing. I would more believe that they have shut down the current branch and moved everyone to "new era". We will see a slip again in 6 months with a "we will just roll it in to the expansion" message.

I think this is great news! Given that xbox players have experienced significant issues, will Xbox One be part of the beta program?
I've not been able to get horizons to load since September....
Thanks

I think a large part of the problem, for me personally at least..is I have no faith that FD actually will fix the outstanding issues OR deliver any of the things they say they will when they say they will.

And why would I? How could I?

The last 2 years...has been..perhaps one of the biggest sh*t shows iver ever seen for Elite.

If i genuinely believed what they said in this post was true...id be ok with it.

But aside from the shills and the delusional white knights...i would expect most people ...aren't brimming with confidence right now.

Yea, but you'll still be back to play it, and will probably still buy things from the store. So many people here complaining won't actually vote with their wallet or stop playing the game. They're deluding themselves.
I do think the game needs multiple balance passes and many bug fixes too. BUT ... i'm sorry but i can't trust you anymore. First mega hype about ice worlds - delayed, then mega hype about fleet carriers - delayed. Not to mention we are at half of the game's lifespan (10 years) and we still can't walk around, build stations (own stuff), trade with other players, or land on atmospheric planets.

So, After 2876 hours played i'm not going to play until the promised content is delivered and i'm not going to buy a single thing from store even if it's in 90% discount.
Don't lie to yourself - you know you will.
ED is the Hotel California.

Although if you can offer proof of this by taking a pic of your play time now and then posting it again when the carrier update drops I'll eat my hat.

Noop, It was FDev to promise Fleet Carrier. And it is also FDev to delay Fleet Carrier. No CMDR forced FDev to promise or to delay. I think you are getting off the track.
