Wow! Excellent thread - so much useful stuff I haven't even been able to go through it all yet. Thanks to everyone who has contributed!

Expect a LOT more tools when the FD api will be ready. Out of the country till next Thursday so no updates basically. I´ve stated it before. There is no way I can keep up with it all, yes can put them on the TODO but creating the normal format I use and putting them in the correct section isn´t do able. NOT with the current forums. The OP is to big and the spoiler tags start to leak (when there is to much info in it) and somehow the forum inserts spoiler tags on its own. It would be very much appreciated if commanders could take one or two entries from the TODO list and create the correct format for it. Afterwards I can put them easily in the correct section. Hoping that commanders are able/willing to do that. Fingers crossed.

Still out of the country.

Tool: Quickly find all Frontier Developer posts
It needs greasemonkey for Firefox and something similar for Chrome. It also contains a RSS feed. So no need for greasemoneky like addons BUT of course you need a RSS program like Bamboo (FF). Afaik it contains the COMPLETE list of dev posts !!

Put here so I don´t forget it. Later will be put on the TODO list.

20150410: Added to the WIP tool which has a codename ED3PTT (see OP).

A bit like "Quickly find all Frontier Developer posts" of the previous post but with a different layout and no greasemonkey script needed.
It display quite a bit less historical data. It can be found here.

This a real GEM. I wish I had found it earlier before it did get snowed under in the forums. DO check this gem out!!!

Put here so I don´t forget it. Later will be put on the TODO list.

Name: WWLAMA ALERTS (SMS)
Author: lazy llama, Winterwalker
Description: SMS Text Message (Galnet Alerts)
Website: WWE
Source available: No, uses tool IFTTT
Thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=95715&p=1752101&viewfull=1#post1752101
Compatible with Release: Yes (currently using (lazy llama) Proxy RSS Feed while Galnet RSS is WIP)
Comments: Using third party tool (If This Then That) app collects new RSS entries to Galnet and forwards a text message alert to your mobile phone. Full Galnet entry must be accessed, in smartphone via phone web browser, by feedreader or found in game. (IFTTT can also be useful for a wide range of web automation).

Nice tool ;-) Thanks for the entry.
As I stated before I can´t keep up with the flood of new tools BUT easy to copy paste entries will be given priority.

I´m getting more and more problems with the OP due to the size of the OP. Spoiler tags are starting to leak and the forum software sometimes inserts spoiler tags on its own. A new way of displaying the data is needed. See also this post.

20150211: Added to the OP section "Manuals, wiki's and other useful information"
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=112957

Edit: The commander has created a dedicated thread for WWLAMA ALERTS. Its called "[GENERAL] Alert to Galnet News by SMS/ Text Message". Do yourself a favor and check the original announcement. In that thread another cmdr created something similar based upon the idea of WWLAMA ALERTS.

Edit 2: Updated OP.

20150410: Its on the the WIP tool now, which has a codename ED3PTT (see OP).

The ED wiki [ link ] has space at least, although it won't help with rest databasing. Maybe a good medium solution?

Any other Commanders able to lend the Wolverine2710 a hand, in migrating his standard Third Party Tool Descriptions to the wiki, so he doesn't have to do the whole thing single handed??

Winterwalker Enterprises (my roleplay) is sponsoring a small but interesting prize to the most effective assistance.

A few weeks ago (after my last request) somebody offered assitance. It was basically a forum software which could be used for it but it didn´t quite fit. The problem with the 3rd party tools list is that quite a few tools belong to multiple sections. There are tools which are a trading tool, route planner and captains log all in one. It would mean entering data in multiple places iirc.

I know I could put it on a wiki BUT there are multiple ones. When I transfer the list I want do it omly once. I think a website with a database would be best. The list is currently 58KB with 60+ entries on the todo list. Perhaps 150KB in total. When the FD api hits LOTS more tool will surface. I can´t imagine there would be more then 1MB of text data for the database. I would be fine with a website where I and others can add/update tool entries with a simple web form. I´m hoping that once it there tool authors update an existing entry themselves as it totally impossible for me to keep track of all new versions, new added functionality.

I however am a firm believer of there is NOT one website which suits all. I also like to share things. The ideal situation would be a website with a REST API so that others can just take the data and use it for example an Android, iphone app or create another 3rd party tools website with a different llok&feel, added functionality. There are programmable wiki´s out there. The could use the REST api tp populate it.

The current forum software and the OP is NOT gonna be sustainable/maintainable in the near future. If I can´t get help I probably need to let this 3rd party tools list to bleed out. The problem is I´m making a living as a java programmer and have created websites before. I do have the skills just not the time. I DO want to concentrate on getting things done for the EDDN project (ELK stack) and want to code for that.

Edit: I can offer webspace because we got free hosting for the EDDN project and that centos 6.6 server (20 Mb unmetered, one Athlon cpu) could be used for it. I can give access to volunteers.

Edit: I do believe in software darwinism. If something is good AND there is a need for it it will flourish. If not, ie no need for a certain species to exist it will get extinct - going the way of the dinosaurs. If there is no need for this 3rd party tools list (no body reads/uses it) it will fade away. Perhaps something much better will arise from the ashes and the data in it can be used as base.... I hope I can continue with the list but currenty I don´t have the correct tools/platform for it. Imay sound harsh but that is not how I intended this post. lets wait and see what the future brings ;-) I

You can remove the comment on "Miscellaneous/galnewsreader" by the way, and I just added the option to get the weekly summary from Frontier's Newsletter :)

Also thanks for the topic, great to have all the info in one spot!

Comments: By the author: I made this opensource front end tool in C# for working with Oliver's awesome Trade Dangerous route planning tool. It started as a replacement for batch files and copying command lines, and quickly grew over a few days to nearly full support for most use cases of the Run and Buy/Sell commands. I hope it can be useful for anyone else who juggles multiple trade routes while also doing missions in between.

Briiliant news

For those who have been following this thread you have noticed a few things.

  • The OP has problems as the contents its getting to big, resulting in leaking spoiler tags etc.
  • The OP has not been updated in a while
  • I´ve not added posted entries to the OP in a while
  • I´ve asked a few times for help to get a website version of the tools list.

Well I´ve brilliant news to report. I´ve found a commander who is willing to create a database driven website version of the OP for me. His name is commander Biobob. What can you expect of the new tools list. See here and here to give you a rough idea for what I/we have in mind. How long will it take? I can´t say anything for sure. It could be weeks, it could be quite a bit more..... After its finished adding entries will be a snap for me and other authors/commanders and i hope to have it up to date all the time.

The consequence is that I won´t be updating the OP till the website is ready. Please DO continue to report new entries. They WILL find their way to the new website.

Can't believe TCE isn't in your list yet ! Check this out :

Eventure's TRADE COMPUTER EXTENSION

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=103401
Check the first page and the link to Yokai's guide on it for full instructions.

There is nothing else quite like it.

The in-game overly feels like it is native to the game !

and it's private data, as (I think) frontier's dev's intended.
(nothing stopping you to use it in conjunction with other crowd source tools if that is your wish thought)

You need a fully updated copy of Microsoft Excel to run it and the free Access Runtime for your version.
But it is well worth buying excel for !!!

Enjoy !
