Console Profile Copy Process - Live Now!

You need a device you can use a web browser on and access to the email account you will be using.
Once the copy is complete you will be able to log in to the PC copy at any time in the future and will be free to continue playing on console for now.
I did the copy at work with no access to ED game or PS, just need to fill in the form on Frontier web site and have email available as they email you the progress as it goes thru each stage.
Once completed (took me about 10 mins), it is there for you anytime in the future.
When you do use it eventually (I linked Frontier to my Epic free version, never used before) it downloads and syncs (took several hours), then runs.

oooof, so I had not gotten to this yet and it's showing offline. Will this be back working once the update completes deployment?

According to FDev, the console profile copy will be offline until Q1 of next year.

CONSOLE PROFILE COPYING PROCESS

Via our website, console players have the option to clone their Commander profiles for use on PC without needing to re-purchase the game. The introduction of Legacy Mode is going to affect what data can be copied. For this reason, the process will be temporarily suspended with the release of Update 14. To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to use the process, it will be reintroduced in Q1 next year.

The version of the process that we reintroduce will not be as comprehensive as before and will only copy the most essential profile data related to player progression. For this reason, we strongly encourage anyone considering copying their profile to do so before Update 14.

I walked the last few of my friends who hadn't done it yet through it over the weekend.
Sucks that they gave less than a week's notice though, for anyone who might have wanted to decommission a carrier first. Not an issue for anyone I know since our entire squadron are remaining in Legacy, but we at least wanted to make sure anyone has the option if Odyssey is ever feature complete up to being on a par with 3.8
(Who knows, with the entire lighting system having keeled over in 4.0, maybe Frontier might take the opportunity to build a raytraced GI system to replace it? And my T9 might win a gymnastics competition.)

I was just trying to copy the profile and accessed the links here, but only the last one works for me. The first one says the process is unavailable at this time and the second says I am not authorized to access this page. Has anything changed in regards with the unlimited time for transfers?
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Frontier withdrew it when they split the 3.8 and 4.0 servers. It's meant to be back early next year in a "reduced" form (no-one's sure exactly what this means).

I have no idea where else to voice my dissatisfaction so I hope this reaches someone. Please allow us to transfer to PC properly without losing our ranks, engineers, ships, etc. I unfortunately have not been keeping up with updates and when I heard about the console transfer to PC I was really excited about it but I knew I wasn't really going to get any time to play till now. I have been getting everything ready on my PS to move it over and now find out that the "indefinite time to transfer your account" really meant only a couple of months. You guys made it seem like we had a lot of time to make the transfer when we wanted to. I am now ready to move everything and it just took me a ton of time to discover I'm completely screwed. I can't transfer, and from what I'm reading, I most likely will lose a ton of progress if I wanted to move over. I'm really disappointed in the decision to cut back on allowing transfers without giving us ample opportunity. There is no way I am basically starting over just so I can play on PC.
I know you did not have to allow us to transfer profile information in the first place, but please give us some hope that we will be able to continue our journey in Elite Dangerous without a heavy burden. If not, I know it will be too disheartening to try to continue playing this exceptional game. It would be soul crushing and I feel it would be a betrayal to your players to destroy hours and hours of achievements to be able to keep playing.

I hear you. They didn´t even bother to delete the "indefinitely" off the page. Three months isn´t indefinitely! At this point I don´t know why this has the capacity to aggravate me. Frontier has proven over and over that they can´t be trusted on their word (VR for Consoles, Odyssey for PS4, now Console Transfer).

The situation with consoles saddens me.

However the misuse of language annoys me.

indefinitely

adverb

for a period of time with no fixed limit

So Frontier didn’t say the process would last forever, they said it would last an unknown time.

Many of us advised to move it over as soon as possible once the process became available, I mean if you had no time to play until now then transferring it across as soon as it was available would have been the very best thing to do, you would have lost nothing. It's simply too late now, we all knew it wasn't going to be forever, I mean even the console 3.8 version will probably be shut down some time in the future, who knows when, but earlier would have been better.

Dude, you didn't have to wait this long. You still could've done the transfer without having to make preparations on your PlayStation. It was only a few clicks on the website, so even if you didn't have time to play, you still could've gotten this done. I told my friends about it, urging even those who didn't have time that your game key will always be available to you, waiting for the next time you are free to play Elite.

FDev gave us alerts about the Portal for almost the entire year, telling us to prepare for it's arrival. Then they gave us 3-ish months to complete our transfers. I think the amount of time they gave us as a warning + the actual amount of time that the portal was available was more than generous, since the majority of the community was set on thinking it would only be out for a few weeks.

Write that down so that you can take a look at your comment the next time a service provider screws you over. How long did every single console player have to wait for that "service"? A "service" that included forced migration to another platform just to play a game they all invested a lot of time in? Because they were repeatedly told it would be worth investing a lot of time in? "The portal will remain open indefinitely, in order for as many Commanders to take advantage of the copy process as possible. Should the portal have a close date, we will of course inform players with enough time to react ahead of that happening." Please do not provide me with some quote that defines six days notice as "enough time" or some inspirational thoughts on how just everybody knew the portal would be short-lived. Context matters.

so its early 2023 now, whats going on? any news on this, any rumors?

i came too late for the last transfer, because i didnt play elite anymore for over a year. all the grind got so boring and there was no deeper content, that i basically quit. first i was excited about odyssey, but i simply lost interest with all the delays.
i played other games and didnt care about elite anymore, so i got no information and updates whatsoever, eventho i am still in the discord of my squadron/fleet, but i have been inactive there. so i just got no information about that last transfer period and missed the chance like a week too late.

then suddenly deep space attracted me again and i started elite, watched some videos and saw all the new content in odyssey, the thargoid war etc and thought: oh wow, there is a lot new stuff and i want them space legs. by now odyssey should be released for console already, i will buy it. to then figure out they scratched it and its pc only now. at this point i totally fell for elite again and wanted to go on on my journey.
i thought no way i move to pc, i didnt have a gaming pc since years, i only have a workstation for music without internet and windows 7. i wont buy another pc. then i thought i could just make a 2nd OS on another SDD, just to play elite. but i need a new GPU. but a new gpu means i need a new PSU. and i would need some cables, adapters and wireless keyboard/mouse, because i am not going to sit on a desk while playing, i wanna chill on the couch with my controller, thats how i play games nowadays.

alright i got a 1070 Ti, next is the PSU. the pc should be ready when the new transfer period opens. i already wanted to buy odyssey when it was on discount, but steam doesnt allow to buy it without having elite core (like what, i cant just buy what i want? why does steam care about if i am able to use what i buy, just take my damn money ).

so with the next transfer window, i already expect that i lose all ships, modules and engineering materials (maybe not, but i dont wanna get frustrated then). nobody knows what will be transferred, but they have to transfer the core progression like ranks, engineer progress, holo me, permits, reputation etc. they HAVE TO, otherwise this is a joke and i am going to freak out and throw the 1070 out of the window, because i am not starting all over again after 1400 hrs. one time is ok, you know you worked for your pleasure of flying a fully engineered corvette and cutter. but having to do all that again, will make me throw up (on the pc that i build only to play elite).

i mean they were able to transfer EVERYTHING before, please somebody give me one reasonable argument why that would not be possible or a problem after update 14, besides being lazy or ****heads that dont care?

but my main question is: where is the news fdev? we have early 2023 now and update 14 is running...

Back then it was the same game running on the same codebase and same player database so I am sure everything just transferred quite easily, the galaxy consoles are playing on have been split from the live version, different code base, different player database, updating a single database is easy, just change pointers and everything is fine, but with the update and separation of the galaxies and player database some of the changes to the codebase and live player database for update 14 may longer be compatible with the data stored in the legacy database, that's my guess anyway, but a lot of us when the transfer option came available did advise transferring as soon as possible to avoid this sort of issue.

The article says this about the new more limited process, sometime in Q1 (not necessarily January):

The version of the process that we reintroduce will not be as comprehensive as before and will only copy the most essential profile data related to player progression. For this reason, we strongly encourage anyone considering copying their profile to do so before Update 14.

So from that I would guess you won't need to start again completely from scratch, but what exactly copies over we don't know yet.

I don't mind any of it, in the end, but what I DO mind is miscommunication, lack of transparency and unclear messages and context.
All of these changes/ updates ought to be properly announced from beforehand, just as the portal for transfers from PS4 was announced almost 1 year before.
In the same spirit, any change that might occur at any given point which impacts the above mentioned transfers in any way should and must be clearly announced and communicated, by whatever means necessary.

I love how things can only be done right one-way. Why not apply the same logic vice-versa?
And stopping it without any update, just out of the blue?? How professional is this approach? I understand we are the peasants who have no choice here, but...really? Is this the way to treat your customers?

Someone above said something about urgency. It does not matter. People might have not had the hardware or the possibility to access the transfer link in the 1st 3 months (as was my case), this aspect does not matter and should not even be discussed, since the original agreement was "indefinitely" - yes, a limited period of time, I also agree, but a change like this one, where access is restricted overnight, under no circumstance can just happen with no prior announcements.

Disappointed beyond belief.... heavy sigh
....over and out, cmdrs, fly safe out there O7

I really don't mind to star on Sidewinder again. Actually, I've bought notebook, a new copy of Elite and start anew, cause it took me too long to decide. It took me a week to get a Dolphin and a Guardian FSD Booster. Then another week to travel to Colonia and now I've got more money I can spent (ridiculous amount of 1.5 billions). The only thing I really care about on my Playstation Account is a Distant World 2 decal (and chromed Dolphin paintjob?). The other things I can buy again.
