Console Update

I'm not nor will I ever ask for a refund of the game, I've enjoyed my time in the galaxy and had my money's worth. But I would like to get a refund for the small fortune I spent on ARX in preparation for Odyssey since it's coming to console announcement. Also I'm seeing absolutely nothing in the PC version of Odyssey that the PS5 couldn't handle at half power, No Man's sky and FFXI handle it perfectly on last gen and are both crossplay. Bad coders in the office is the real problem, not the consoles

Pretty sure it is because of over 8 years old game engine and source code, that were originally designed to PC only from beginning of alpha, before couple years later porting the game to Xbox and then to PS4.

Not to mention developers and programmers have most likely changed during these years, making this game even more of a code-spaghetti, as knowledge of some things might be less than before in development.

See EvE Online, they are still prisoners of about 20 years old coding and game engine.

Only option is to have ED 2 or Elite V (5) to encounter these issues, and get the game even into new gen consoles, I think.

Quote from OP (Original Post): "We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase."
I think that means beside FC interior we should expect more content coming and from sound of it, story wise content.
It may sound like that but they also said it would be released on console and the console community was very important to them as well as other things they've said and not delivered on. If I've learned one thing in my time interacting with frontier it's that they rarely keep their word

I remember someone pointing out the capabilities of the consoles both the previous gen and current gen, comparing TFLOPS of each to Odyssey and Horizons, and the conclusion was, for the One, One X, PS4 (that era), there was no way in hell to get Odyssey to run on them

then they looked at Series S/X, PS5, etc, and they said MIGHT, but even they doubted it.So honestly, unless they figure out how to optimize the code base between now and when ever this hypothetical announcement would happen, I doubt they would be willing to say ALL console development. They would have just said "We are stopping support for blank generation consoles and focusing on current gen." something like that.

So yeah, console ED is dead and it's not coming back. Jesus Christ I feel sick to my stomach.
My stomach was all out of wack the other day, too… felt like a breakup. 🥴

Please explain how you found how many ED hours you've invested on PlayStation. I just spent the better part of an hour trying to find it for my account with no luck. According to numerous Google search results, that information just isn't available. Google search results are rarely 100% accurate, so I'm still hoping the info actually is available.
It's in your codex

Oh no, i do think they will move forward, but with little development assigned to engine improvement and optimizations.
The narrative will still go on - they're still looking to hire a game designer to keep the narrative and the events going

However, i do expect Arf to start commenting F1 races once the game is released and to get less involved into Elite.
Speaking of Arf us in the console community should have realised what was going on when the avid Xbox player switched to PC which was just before Odyssey release, the signs were all there, him switching platform, complete radio silence on the subject. I think we all knew what was coming but refused to see it

there is, unfortunately, a reason why Public Relations and Marketing is an industry, and it's because opinions can be swayed towards the positive or negative and facts don't actually matter as much as image. Which is exactly why you see appeals to emotion and dismissal of fact based arguments in favor of narratives. So, in the sphere of influence that relates to Elite and those who would like to play spacegames, their opinions do matter and do have an effect.
If only Fdev had a public relations and marketing gang to communicate and promote a positive image of the product - oh wait...
If the console servers are on an hour after PC merge is complete, I'll eat my hat.
You'll be hat eating then. Unless it's an ingame gold rush where players are generating easy cash Fdev will take months to get round to switching the servers off.
but mostly it's my unique paint-job and decals that I would miss.
I don't know about this stuff but if you asked for the ingame cash only transfer (that's possible now) wouldn't your arx and bought stuff follow you? (it was bought with real world cash after all).

I promise you FDev tried their best to get this done but just think about all the keybinds and trying to pack them all on a Xbox or PS controller. Can't be done.

Right then you bunch of dodgy scallywags, I have some information about moving commandos over from one platform to another.

Let me be clear up front though - I am simply a facilitator here, and have no real vested interest in the issue. So feel free to quote this and that, but I'm not here giving an opinion on the subject, nor do I know the details. I am doing this as a favour for a friend who is unable to get to the forum at the moment for real life reasons.

So any cheap shots or attempts to argue with me will be ignored with the grace of a fart in a spacesuit. Simply because I don't have an opinion.

If anyone however wishes to donate stuphz, or have a ridiculous argument about anything else, then please feel free to put up! I'm always happy to talk rubbish. But this is a public service post really.

Anyway, apologies for the preamble, I just don't want to get grief for helping out with what looks like a useful bit of info, from someone who actually knows what they are talking about. I can't say who it is, but they are from Cambridge and have a terrible combover style haircut.

So this is an article I believe from a while back where the movement of commandos from one platform to another was worked and put into practice. Make of it what you will, but if you want to argue about it - don't involve me, as I'll be outside chasing a chipmunk around the car park, giggling like a schoolgirl.

Here you go:-

The business decision I was expecting from them was to say there would not be a old-gen version, but that they would instead focus on next-gen at a future date. The entire chopping of console versions has a much worse outlook.

Players were asking for cross-play ever since the console versions released and instead they got a cross-out from non-critical updates.

It’s almost as if FDev never put out an Odyssey trailer for console or anything. I guess I’m not really watching the Odyssey trailer on the official Playstation Youtube channel or anything. Phew. For a second there I thought all of those things happened and were promised. o7
And you followed along like a Pavlovian pup for an entire year, banking your hopes and dreams on a trailer?

It's 2022 and you're a functioning adult, right? You should know by now that corporations lie. As a gamer, you should know that trailers, concept art, and all the hype material put out beforehand almost never reflects in the actual game.

If your only defense is "b-b-b-but they made a trailer!" then I just feel bad for you.

I'm a weird one - I have a Life Time Pass, work with data and am a PC enthusiast so always had a good PC, played with hotas on the PC for over 3 years before the PS4 launch.
I picked up the PS4 version simply to play with mates who hadn't seen it before, we had a good time, I ended up maining that Commander for the next 3 years barely touching the PC version. In that time a lot was achieved (far more than the PC account), including DW2 which is something I obviously won't be able to get again no matter what.

TBH I haven't really played either version since just after the Odyssey announcement, was watching the PC updates and waiting for the console drop.

So while I don't have to start fully from scratch on the PC, or buy anything to continue playing EDO on the og cmdr, I'll throw my hat in the account transfer ring as it sure would be nice to be able to bring the PS4 commander over to PC so I can buy Odyssey on that account and continue with that guy.

No great shakes if not, gone but not forgotten o7 (I'll be taking his assets though lol!)!

I don't think he said anything about the reality of whether companies lie or not, he's just upset that they did. Justifiably so - just because companies lie doesn't make it ok. That's some circular logic.
Please try to keep it civil and respect other people's thoughts even if they don't align with yours.

Other games can, such as the entire battlefield series, they have one set of control s for on foot, another for air vehicles and a 3rd for ground vehicles, so tell me again why it can't be done ?
It can definitely be done, the developers did a wonderful job getting most of the binds onto the gamepad on PlayStation, I had to tweak and add in some of my own rolo-toberlone combos mind you.

Plus, walking on a gamepad is more fun than running like a looney, or walking like a turtle on keyboard is (I know, it’s taken a year for Cyberpunk to add a ‘walk’ toggle to keyboards 😂).

Battle field does not have near as many keys to program. And you know it.

I can’t imagine what it must be like to operate with a paramecium for a brain. There were the trailers, dev blogs, and then the PC release - at no point during any of that was there any indication that Odyssey for console would ever get canceled. Delayed? Sure. Canceled? Please show where that was hinted. I implore you since you clearly have a Big Brain™️

I've kept it civil, although I agree that insinuating that he/she isn't a functional adult is a little mean. This person responded to my last post and their entire passive-aggressive argument was "but FDev made a trailer". That's some silly logic.

Of course companies lying doesn't make it ok and we should indeed demand better (mostly by voting with our wallets). However, allowing oneself to be strung along for a year based on a trailer, knowing FDev's track record, and then giving the ol' "Surprised Pikachu" face and feigning pitchforks-and-torches rage when they let you down isn't comical, it's sad. The only other people that are bigger suckers are the SC crowd.
