Could griefers be turned into a feature?

I wasn't looking to get ahead nor for a leg up, for me it is not all about competing.
I was just starting to venture out into the galaxy exploring, in awe of it all, when I got a radio message from the venerable Felicity Farseer.
I'm not the competitive type, unless I hear the word ...

Not at all unlike the venerable krait herself, I am generally very placid.
The problem with engineer invites early on is its taken as being a direction rather than an option, and that tech brokers are largely forgotten.

In the end its not about competition, its simply making your ship spaceworthy in Open. Rushing to a known spicy area early on will lead to issues- being prepared will mitigate some danger, but you'll feel less overwhelmed.

Naa, that's just not realistic, no room for psychopathy in the c̶e̶n̶t̶r̶e̶ cradle of civilisation. As some wise fellow already stated somewhere above, there is no way that Felisity would stand for this, she would up and move somewhere else.

? When I lived in the UK one night a guy went round my street with a samurai sword (luckily nothing happened). A year later some young idiots went along the road with a plank of wood and smashed cars.

I get my home town is not exactly enlightenment central, but random violence does happen. Having a view that in space, between ships and players who are above the law that everyone acts in your definition of 'normal' is dangerous.

But there's the problem. New players don't know that Deciat is spicy. In fact, it's spicy because gankoids know that new players get directed there and they'll be arriving unawares, being un-engineered and inexperienced in combat.

If I state here my opinion of players who purposely seek out such easy victims, I risk hotel check-in.

Well yes, I didn't learn my philosophy from books either. I for one think that this issue of psychopath in the middle is clearly apparent within occidental culture, because the archaic systems that address the issue are, by now, utterly d̶e̶c̶r̶e̶p̶i̶d̶ decrepit. If you want my take on why this is the abbreviate version of it is, rather curiously: It is due to linguistic evolution. Though the explanation as to why this be the case, is somewhat too complex for any forum post.

It’s the total lack of warning from the game, especially for new players, that makes Deciat so “bad”.

Sure if you’re up and running on Inara and know about the security report, or use EDMC with the EDRecon tool you have an inkling, but even PKer hollow pips aren’t colour coded - even after scanning (though ofc you would see the wanted status).

And in reply to @wilyrites getting into Farseer with a stock Sidey or Eagle should totally be a challenge!

And thats why I said FDs messaging is a problem- it fails to communicate that there are options and that it feels like direction in a game that has few actual directions sent to you.

Its why IIRC earlier in this thread I also talk about making more of the pre-jump summary which could tell you the destination is hot.

The other is that it comes down to attitude when you reach an obstacle- out of all options, actually thinking and going elsewhere is always seen as the last resort, rather than the first- hence why I say 'go anywhere in anything at anytime' is a bad position in ED.

Well yes they are, I'm was just stating that the existence of this issue in prime gameplay systems, means that the hard work of the game devs gets missed; At least that has been my experience.
No one could possibly enjoy the trauma of your first encounter with a reaver, I'm just saying that this could be turned into a real asset. If the game company felt inclined.
I friend everyone I instance with, even those who kilt me...I can keep an eye on where they are, my block list is empty.

Whenever I click (select) a system with a Friend Icon, I get a list of commanders there who are on my friend list (in the little person icon on the left menu).

...

Also I would also fix the piracy mechanics to make it so the language barrier is removed for example maybe a wheel of common phrases etc that's translated to the users language their end when receiving it. This would then facilitate piracy as it was ask for when The Code were around back in the day.

Keeping in mind how loathed the figit spinners wheels are for on foot maybe some other control method.

Oh what a great idea, I've not had much interaction with this aspect of the game, only once at the very start. I think after interaction with the fuel rats, though to this day I'm not sure what instigate it, I'd no idea at that time how the comm's work, still rather vague to me now.

Nice. But can you remember which are the good friends and which are the bad friends? :)

I think Farseer should be changed to something else maybe a Thargoid scout kill, at least that way you would have to have a reasonable ship to visit. I got the message in the starting sidewinder leaving the start zone and venturing out.

I would love it if the manifest scanner result page had a button to just "demand some of this one" and give a Y/N prompt for the recipient.

Mostly? The repeat offenders, yes, one-offs, some...In general, I find all of them some of the most challenging content...

As an example, refer to the link in my signature below and look for a recent triple escape video. I can't directly post it here because its against forum policy to name and shame, and I respect that.

I'm hopeful of beginning to work on the offensive side of PvP Soon™️ ...maybe...someday...but for now I have high hopes in the T-8 and its ability to run away, not lose its shields and, possibly, fight back in a defensive fashion while still being able to carry some useful amount of cargo (as yet to be determined)...

The thought occurs whilst cooking lunch, I often think of elite when I'm not playing it, at the moment at least. When I was ganked, three times in a row on the landing pad trying to leave Felisity Farseers, (I'd not yet figured that I was in open mode and could turn it off), I expressed my distain politely, and asked why it was that they were shooting fish in a barrel, the reply was that you get lots of elite PvP players at deciat and thus it was great for fighting them, now I presume that this is for some specific elite rank, a scoring scheme that is for PvP or some such; Please do let me know if I'm wrong!

Now if this is the case, rather than rotting modules and the likes, a simple loss of rank due to lack honour, or for dishonouring the pilots federation, would do the trick. These types are so status oriented, that it would likely make quite a difference.

Anyhow, there goes another 2̶ ̶G̶1̶ ̶m̶a̶t̶e̶r̶i̶a̶l̶s̶ 2cts, thanks for listening.

Really awesome, I wasn't really sure of you intent from previous posts, whether you are admitting to having space madness or something else, its clear now that this is not the case; What a great way to take it all in your stride!
English is such a vague language, especially its modern usage, and forums add more to the abstraction!

Oh, I definitely have space madness...goes without saying really...

Well Shirarta is a really frustrating place to have founders world, every time you limp home from a hard voyage and are over the moon to see your home system again, some fool interdicts you with their olympic griefing setup installed, when you are dressed for real life, and already badly damaged; It's just such a shame!

Go do your deathmatches in the deathmatch, area if you must play games; I'm trying to get on with real life here! ... Geez!

On the bright side, I have just landed my first few shots in PvP combat I'm celebrating that, had to leg it out pretty fast though, but at least I survived this time.
It would seem that there are some visible effects of quantum gravity in the space port too, least that is what I'm telling myself to maintain the suspension of disbelief!
