To say that I'm disappointed would be an understatement. While I have been the first to defend the premature release of Elite thus far, it is outrageous that it is still going to be until mid-march before we can meaningfully interact with our friends in game.
Seriously, waiting for a month or two is "outrageous" to you? How about all those of us who have waited for Elite 4 since the mid-90's? :D

A couple of months, or even a year, is not that long, really.

Thanks for the update on your development process also! This should stop some of the moaning when the point releases drop. I'm glad your being cautious and don't want to risk breaking any currently working functionality.

What he said basically, really appreciate your post clarifying the difference between point updates (with emphasis on "low risk" changes - which explains the somewhat random, and to some, seemingly insignificant, selection of changes therein) versus major updates which will address some of the issues people are getting hot under the collar about (but whose fixes are presumably not "low risk") plus exciting new features. People who were involved in the Beta and were used to a "bolder" approach to the regular updates must appreciate that a large paying community is now involved and that a more cautious and responsible approach to changes is necessary.

Stoked about the 1000ly route planning, traveling across the galaxy > 100 ly at a time is a pain. I hope that the routing speed is updated as well.

Really REALLY not liking this idea. Why should we have to PAY you to HELP you? I know of no other game that does this. You limit the number of people that can test things, you divide your playerbase and not to mention, you just plain old screw your customers.

Seriously, this isn't like early access. Game is out. This is seriously, deeply concerning and makes me question supporting you and any future endeavors in the future.

No one is forcing you to pay anything extra. Initial limited testing is a good idea because it keeps feedback loop and admin work /costs under control. Open Beta's concept is new anyway and FD don't have to open beta just because some other game does.

I don't see how this splits up playerbase at all. Nor is it screwing any customer- you don't have to join the beta but in the end you will still get a free update.

Maybe BMW will let you participate in their open Beta for the new sports coupe for free?

Hi Michael,

Please please please... could you let me and others know if the stutter problem is being actively investigated by FD? Just want to know what the score is. Thanks.

they should want a LOT of people to help them,

Should? Why?
They already havea great many players with beta access. If that number is beyond their requirements already, they may very well require more funds more than they require more testers. If they find, in the future, that they don't have enough testers at one point they can then open up beta testing to more people.

Seriously.. NO OTHER company does this because it is in VERY bad taste. Every MMO and even just multiplayer games (BF4 for example) has a PTR (Public Test Realm) that is free to all gamers to download and try out the new content, give feedback, bug reports, etc.

And before things like Minecraft made a big hit with early access no company did that either. Things change. When early access began people screamed about how outragous it was to pay to be a beta tester, yet now it is all the rage. What is to say that beta testing for an update can't be seen as early access?

any info on special weapon types? i read a bit about "overcharged" weapons etc: and it would be nice to actually be able to find upgrades to the weapons i put on my ships when first brought..

As no ship is design to handle 1000ly travels. Ploting a route with no control over the type of stars to scoop is way too dangerous. Imagine 400ly route without scoopable star automatically selected will dry your fuel tank todeath.

Simple. You let the route planner plan your route, then you run along the brown line to the point it goes dotted, back up a jump and check that the star is scoopable.
It's what I did when I flew a craft that didn't have a big enough fuel tank for a 100ly route. Galactic navigation doesn't have to be easy, I want some involvement in plotting a course and longer route planning will be fantastic.

What would be useful in the route planning would be if you look at the planned route and could select a way point off the route and have it replot course via that system. Or select a system to avoid in the same way... But like my TomTom let's me "travel via" or "avoid part of route".

But seriously, I'll settle for 1000ly if that's all we get. It will be a massive help.

To be honest, I am more interest what 1.1 will bring (just two weeks away btw). Routing is just one aspect, as I understand, but there are lot of small yet missing things from current game.

Thanks Michel and devs for having some concrete dates to look forward to. Please keep us informed. Thanks :)

How do you get the beta tester? I beta tested since the start of beta

Then you are beta tester, and will get access to beta test of 1.1 and 1.2. Remember, those will be separate worlds from retail version, so most likely you will have to create new commander.

You honestly see no problem with this? I want to help them, a lot of people want to help them, they should want a LOT of people to help them, but before they can help them, they have to give them additional money?

W.T.F.?

No, I don't see a problem with this.

Elite has no subscription and the only microtransaction you can buy is cosmetic items. Personally I hoped this was one of the things they had thought of to generate revenue for the company. All this does is that some people can choose to get access to the (probably buggy) build a week early and play around with the features. I'm not expecting any progress to be saved or transferred over to the main build later while playing in this Beta environment. Everyone else then gets access to a polished version of it a week later.
