Discovery Scanner [Weekly Update] - 09/05/2022

The most funny thing is that fdev created this problem for themselves. Instead of communicating (like they said they would) and tell the console commanders after they cancelled all console development - hey don't go starting new PC commanders for now until we'll sort things out with the transfers, they kept silent about the subject like a kid who broke something and now magically expects it to sort itself out. Or did they expect the console players just to abandon the game all together which is again proving "how well" they know their playerbase . So yeah, like I said, good job.
i mean, we should wait and see what they have to answer to those questions in the next post, as they said, for once they said they will answer questions. I hope they will, and if they don't then we [the console community] can continue to be angry aboout the fact that they teased us with a reason to play the game again. For now we just have to hope fdev doesn't mess everything up (again)

Possibly a silly question, but do you think there will be a way for commanders who have bought Odyssey on the PC (because they thought they were not getting an account transfer) be able to replace their Odyssey PC Account with their X-Box one should they wish to do so? I can certainly see the desire to say replace a commander with a few million and a Cobra and a Suit with my Fleet Carrier owning triple Elite X-Box commander, then I guess their original PC Odyssey Commander can either go into the void, or (even better) have their Odssey rights removed and moved into the newly created x-box transfer account?

Eid
Thanks Eid, this is still on my mind as I'm thinking the whole point of transferring was to play Odyssey with all my progress. If I just want to keep playing Horizons i will have to stay on PlayStation because my computer can't currently play Elite without crashing. Point I was just trying to make besides is that progress should be copied to Odyssey & not Horizons on pc! 🤔

Your PS progress WILL be copied to a new horizons copy. Your progress will be on pc.

The only question which we don't yet know the answer to is whether an exiting account (whether it's horizons or odyssey) on pc can be replaced with the PS account.

And the only reason for doing that is surely to save you having to buy a new copy of odyssey. I think that's a pretty minor inconvenience, no?

People who asked for transfers were told by support no, wait until the new process is in place. Weren't they? I believe transfers of the old system ie just assets were suspended.

It sounds like it is all moot until your PC will run the game, but when they copy your PlayStation account and you add Odyssey to that account your progress to date will be there. Anything more complicated involving prematurely purchased accounts is something to ask FDev or support about when they announce the full details and time window for the transfers. Right now nobody knows more than in the Dev posts etc.

I gave up on that one.
Probably never. Issue tracker did not help, the short phase where FD showed the most voted bugs did not help.
Even my nagging did not help (I am shocked)
The game has meanwhile so many bug that the devs probably don't even know where to start.
Honest (and hoping to be helpful) question - is it not possible to use third-party software to map your buttons to keyboard presses to achieve the same goal? I remember doing this many years ago, where you could even have some complex macros triggered by a single button press.

I think Star Citizen players would vehemently disagree.
As would X4 Foundations players, Space Engineers players, and Subnautica players. Well, not ALL players, but at least one of us!

Though to be honest, I'm not as "vehement" about ship interiors in Elite as I once was, thanks to VR "unlocking" ship cockpits and bridges. I think I'd rather have a proper NPC crew first, then ship interiors (even if it's a limited version like X4).

As for Arx, I'd be much more likely to spend Arx on alternative bridge schemes (like a NEW Anaconda instead of the junkyard version) rather than external paint that is more for others to see than myself.

Yes, there are different tools like Joystick Gremlin which can be used, also some manufacturers offer own solutions (e.g.virpil).

My issue was, that the third party tools are not very intuitive to me and I had to gave up on them and I'm not that incompetent when it comes to hardware, software and configuration. The virpil solution took almost one year to be released after I bought the hotas.

ED is a game about flying space ships, many player invested a lot money in this hobby and to be honest, I expect a company to fix such a basic but significant fearure on their own and not force players to use workarounds to be able to play the game.

Couple of questions. 1. Will this free copy of Elite be Horizons and EDO has to be paid for(which is fair enough)? 2. Does anyone in here play the game on a Steam Deck and does it run it well? Just can't afford a decent enough PC right now.

Yes and although I haven't heard anybody about the Steam Deck, GeForce Now has had some positive mentions on the forum in relation to Odyssey.

Looked into GeForce already and I thought it was bad enough paying £50 a year for PlayStation plus so I could play in open, I'm not paying £100-£174 a year to get GeForce membership just to playe Elite

Larry David worked so hard to stay on unemployment prior to Seinfeld that they wrote it into the show for George Costanza to act out. Elite Dangerous reminds me of Larry David in that they will do anything it takes to not put out new space content, even working harder to do other things so they avoid giving us new ships or aliens. George is getting upset!

You don't just need to play Elite there, Steam has a crapton of sales each year and there's plenty of marvelous games to discover that aren't available on consoles. It's still a considerably cheaper alternative than getting new hardware and you can always cancel your subscription.

The POWER MOVE you guys pulled a couple of weeks back, forcing the suits at F Dev into a corner was very impressive indeed. Finally, you have been allowed to do your job, open up (just a little bit) and engage with the community directly on plans for the year ahead. Well done to you all!
Anyone care to elaborate on said "POWER MOVE?" 🤷‍♂️

The CMs went on strike, hence the short-lived cancellation of the streams. After barracading the coffee machine for a while, management finally caved in and allowed them to release the roadmap and hint about a key feature overhaul.
I'd like to think part of this strike was embargoing all the boxes of Braben's favorite candy/cookies and not letting him have any until he agreed to allow some information to be given to the players.

Ha, I was just about to say it was probably a biscuit blockade.
Well, the candy and soda pop machine is right next to it, so it was probably a double whammy.

Greetings Commanders,

A new week begins in the world of Elite Dangerous, so grab a seat, and let's talk about everything happening right now within the game.

Console Account Transfers
As announced in our post last week, we're very happy to be able to tell you that console account transfers are making progress behind the scenes, with the dev team hard at work to make sure as much as possible is transferred over should you wish to copy your Commander from console to PC. Secondly, if you've purchased Elite Dangerous on consoles, we'll be giving you a free copy of Elite Dangerous on PC. This will all be done in a limited-time window and the exact details are still being confirmed, but we'll be giving you plenty of heads up so you can prepare if needed.

The team are also gathering the most frequently asked questions about console account transfers so that we can provide you with the answers all at once.

The Rest of 2022
Another thing we spoke about last week was the remainder of the year and what that looks like in terms of structure for Elite Dangerous updates. Our first upcoming update, Update 12, is due this month. The main focus of Update 12 is on optimisation and fixes as we continue to improve Odyssey based on your feedback and Issue Tracker reports. There'll also be a new mission variant added, which we'll share more on in the coming weeks!

Moving forward, Updates 13 & 14 are currently aiming for August and November respectively. As well as continued performance improvements, these updates will be focusing on exciting new narrative threads for you to engage with. I know that you're all itching to hear more about what this specifically means, but rest assured that this is more than solely the continuation of GalNet. The closer we get to those updates, the more we can reveal, but it's too early right now. I would very much recommend that you keep up to date with the current happenings in the Elite Dangerous universe, as the Azimuth Saga continues to evolve.

2023
I can't say much about 2023 right now, in fact, I can't say anything other than what you already know! The team are currently looking at a key feature overhaul for 2023, and although I cannot give you any hints as to what this is, I hope it will help allay some concerns that there is no more content coming to Elite Dangerous. There's a lot still to come, and the new major narrative phase will have a part to play in the future, too.

Frameshift Live
As you will have heard if you tuned into last week's show, Frameshift Live will now air once every two weeks on Thursday's at 4PM BST. We're looking to revamp the show based on your feedback, specifically, your ask for more insight from the development team. What this means is that there are around 16 shows left in the year, and for each of those shows, we're looking to give you something you can't get somewhere else, and I don't just mean Twitch Drops! We're currently finalising our plan for the rest of the year's shows, and once that's concrete, we'll begin sharing with you our upcoming schedules, so you know what to expect before you jump into a stream. These subjects will likely range from ship design, ideas behind core gameplay elements, concepts and more. With this in mind, is there anything in the game currently that you'd like to know more about from a development point of view?

This doesn't mean the community elements of the show will stop, though! The Elite Dangerous community continues to be one of the best things about the game, and we're keen to highlight the fantastic things you do both in and out of the in-game galaxy.

Community Event Calendar Spotlight: On The Rocks (Magic 8 Ball)
