I've come to the conclusion that there's two types of players. Those that have not encountered an OP NPC and think we're crazy, and those that have and realize how annoying and frustrating the game will be. Dying in this game is usually a big setback. Most MMO's are not like that. If you die in ED, you lose a large chunk of progress.

Unless you are out in the boonies exploring, visit posts (save) more often... profit.

Previously there has been no risk from the ai and people got used to face rolling and making credits far too easily. There is no reason to adjust bounties, many mission payouts have already been increased.
If you think people are going to tolerate games that require hundreds or thousands of hours of grinding before you can have a viable combat build I got news for you.

But I'm sure you'll love it. After all you will finally be the most hardcore guy playing the game.

Because no one else will be playing it.

too easily in your mind maybe.

No, the devs have said so too, and they are taking steps to make it more challenging.

I see, you speak for everyone else? Sorry to burst your bubble, but the game will do just fine with the ai at this level. It may even bring some folks back who saw it as offering no challenge, regardless it won't die as a result, no matter how much you may wish otherwise.

As a non horizons player, I'm wondering how an NPC modded ship of high rank is going to be. I'm up for the challenge in my A rated Viper though it sounds as if I'm going to be outgunned.

I was very successsful in an unmodded A-rank Courier. The only concern I'd have about a Viper is the lack of utility mounts, but I spent a little time in my Imperial Eagle last night and I held my own.

I don't have a real answer atm.

Higher end AI are harder to fight in the wrong ship but I still wouldn't call them difficult. Granted this is coming from someone's biggest ship is a poorly outfitted Python.

I have gotten my tail kicked in the Python but did just fine in my Cobra. Though that could just be my play style in that ship having the edge. I'm not sure yet.

Atm I say it's fine... ish. I can easily see me saying it's still too easy just based off how I fight but I need to get Python refitted and in a few scrapes to know for sure.

Banned
This is what happened to me when I encountered adder in hazres. I totally expected beta 6 AI :D. Boy was I wrong. I equip missiles next time. Cannons are not the best weapons anymore. In 2.0 I used to melt adders like these with lasers and use cannons against larger ones. Now you need proper weapons agains small ones too.

You need to center your throttle when you turn (in the blue zone) and lose the gimballs for the lasers.

World of Tanks seems to be doing fine. :)

Every person who says it was "too easy" before 2.1 should at least have the balls to reset their save.

But I'm betting no one will.

Wrong. Have successfully run away in my Python from another python, a Conda, FAS and an FDL ( all Elite). Use Chaff and don't fly in a straight line

Who had the chance to fly in any direction, I don't know exactly what that Conda was packing, because I didn't even have the time to look, all I got was interdiction, heavily spinning ship, shields went like they were switched off.

I will be attempting other tactics such as submitting to interdiction then high tailing it, but that particular interdiction went sideways the moment my ship dropped to normal space.

NPC's are not supposed to be as difficult as players. Period.

The final goal of Elite Dangerous has always been to be such that players can't tell the difference between an AI and other players (notwithstanding the glaring target square/triangle). It just got a step in that direction.

You can do combat in any ship.

Do you mean a viable build against the PvP tanks that some folk go around in? Then yes, that's a lot of effort - but no one said that was who you had to fight.

It seems from those who've posted their new "Cr/Hr" figures (that seem to define their idea of fun) that bounty hunting is now more in line with exploration. Why isn't it considered that you had it easy? Almost all these cries are really for it staying as easy as it was - and that's not going to cut it as it was waaaaaay too easy

We were brought up on a diet of fumbling, lumbering NPC behaviour which, quite frankly, was pretty boring. Frustrating even..
There was no real challenge and i for one was steered towards a PVP biased form of gameplay due to the shallow NPC characteristics more than anything else.

Now, here we are... things have changed, finally, and i can understand a lot of players who have not been able to move on and practice their skills beyond what they have experienced so far.
And the NPCs are now owning them.. I just hope those that are finding it difficult see this as a time to learn some new skills and adapt.

I'm not saying that some of this new AI may not need a little massaging, and i'm sure FD knew that too, so no need to start throwing our toys outta the pram just yet.
Maybe some adjustment to the upgraded module possibilities on NPC ships so that it's a little more random yet inline with rank type.

Anyways, thanks SJA for stirring things up and making the galaxy a little challenging again..
