Literally anyone can PvP if I can you can....
This very much sounds like the introduction of a Disney song.

If I can, you can.
If you can, they can.
We all can, Pee versus Pee.
If we want to, Pee vs Pee.
Its fun for you and me
Just try it and you will see.

Sorry about that. Got a little carried away. But I bet it was catchy. I bet it's stuck in your head.

A hypothetical situation:

If you finally persuaded and taught a beloved older relative to play ED and they made the mistake of choosing Open instead of Solo and got blown up resulting in their being very reluctant to play again despite your telling them it would not have happened in Solo, how would you feel? Would you have felt the time and effort you took teaching ED to your relative well spent? Anyway time and effort don't matter because it's only a game after all?

Would you tell them to get good?
Would you tell them they wouldn't have died had they high waked and oh yeah made sure they had chosen a target system before even leaving and oh yeah immediately submitted to an interdiction so their FSD comes online quicker and oh yeah made sure to put 4 pips to systems and oh yeah made sure to target a system that is not obscured by a planetary body?
Would you tell them that's tough, it's their fault for choosing Open?
Would you tell them that the killer was only doing it for fun and is probably a really nice person in real life?
Would you tell them that it's a rough world out there and that they need to get hard?

If the above, would they be likely to try ED again?

TL;DR sympathy and empathy have their place.

If I convinced a family member to play my silly space game and they get ganked, I would curse at myself for not preparing them correctly. My mistake!

My family member would most likely look at me and ask "What happened?. I would explain, they would learn and everyone would be better for it!

They would then try again, not being a family of quitters and then would learn, adapt and overcome.

Empathy is for victims... My family are not victims.

The griefers really are crying out for attention. Private Groups for DWII are now very safe thanks to excellent moderation. Open is completely lawless and full of bored griefers who have nothing to shoot at. I was bored myself yesterday so spent 3 or 4 rebuys trying to get out of the mining station in open, it was impossible. I then dropped into solo then back into open to travel to the meeting point. Once there I lasted about 10 seconds.

You've been beaten.

^^Gets killed three or four times trying to get out of the station. Proclaims total victory.

Hm, this is actually tempting me to go (re)join DW2. A pity I still have stuff I want to explore first.

Doubt it because believe it or not quite a few people like to PvP and honestly it’s a huge galaxy the odds of seeing another hostile CMDR is low unless you go to a hot spot and honestly even then it’s pretty dead at times. I like the thrill of PvP and if that’s not your cup of tea thats fine. I admit that I sometimes don’t want to pvp and just pve with others. But it’s ultimately the players decision to what they want to do. Literally anyone can PvP if I can you can....

I agree with that - however I think the targeted ganking of things like DW2 does not really add to anything.

Look, I watched the stream yesterday.

What you're doing isn't PvP, it's simply station camping. Sure, the game allows you to do that by using certain loopholes of the C&P system, but it's just silly to call it PvP when you have guys staring at the mailslot for hours waiting for unarmed ships to undock.

In fact you could argue that PVP'ers are actually killing open rather than making it a better place - ultimately people will just stay in Private Groups with no PVP.

FWIW - not much - in my main account I play in PG exclusively these days. I have two other CMDR accounts - one is for FA Off exclusively, and the other is as yet unused and was bought to play in Open only.

For now, tho, it's Mobius.

You seem to have misinterpreted what I was saying. I was bored, I'm a billionaire, I was playing a game of "trying to get out of the station" in my, (quite), fast Krait Phantom which is a poxy £2.5 million rebuy. I thought it was quite a fun way to spend 45 minutes. By the end it was obvious I couldn't do it.

My message was that there is simply no way to escape well engineered griefers if you venture into open, so best not to unless it's for a bit of fun. Simple as that.

Ah my apologies for the misunderstanding.

I had fun blowing up a python in my sidewinder in Shinrarta 2 nights ago.

Better than waiting 2 hours for a player to undock.

Me and the MV Earnest disagree with this statement.

"I've outrun and escaped Gank ships, not the low tier Ronins of Anorak, mind you. I'm talking about the big SDC and RSM ships."
