DLC 19 Speculation

Honestly it is funny how my part of the US keeps getting more and more animals that is native to it, but I still haven’t built a “native zoo” because I got like 0 birds for me to use still.
  1. Wood Duck? Only in my dreams
  2. Mallard? Frontier doesn’t even know what a duck is!
  3. Wild Turkey? Nuh uh
  4. Trumpeter swan? Probably never
  5. Canadian goose? Nope
  6. Any seabirds at all? NOT GONNA HAPPEN
Obviously the lack of flying birds also excludes stuff like the great horned owl or bald eagle. Which features in a lot of “local” animal sections.
Yea North America still really needs a proper bird. Mallard would be a great versatile pick, Turkey is probably the most iconic and would be another landfowl (finally) and then this pack would have been perfect for the Roadrunner. Basically, there is loads of good options.

My main pick both due to range, and being common in real zoos, is the wood duck.

They will arrive, my apprentice. They will arrive as the unlimited power

The green anaconda is an animal I really do not understand the hype for. Like if it somehow was made possible as a habitat animal and wasn't the jankiest thing ever I still really wouldn't care, I think just having the yellow is fine and more practical and there is other snakes I'd much rather.

They are kind of a star in zoos and a highlight of snake collections. I think their chances of showing up as a habitat animal are close to 0, but I understand some of the demand. Giant constrictors can draw attention, and the green anaconda is one of the biggest.

Completly forgot the monkeys lol

Yeah howler and tamarins and probably spider monkeys are also essential (still). Squirrel monkeys as well probably.

With those dark straps the whole gate look more like one single piece rather than a new beam set, which would be a shame.

Very curious about those leaves. Did they finally make a flexicolor one? Or will they just release a whole set for each color
I'm really hoping those new wood pieces and those metal brackets/braces are unique pieces. Honestly, more braces like that would be so great for modern/industrial builds.

As for the leaves - I actually think that's confetti! So hopefully it's flexicolor. Because that would make it infinitely more useful.

bush dog is getting a pretty neutral or absent reaction
This is blasphemy. They're the star of the pack for me. Haha.

also do we know when they usually announce the free update every since the key art that all I have been excited for
They usually announce the free update at the same time as the DLC. There's been 2-3 times where it was announced before the DLC (or at least one of the features was) but that's pretty rare.

I think it's safe to assume there's no free update coming alongside this pack (except maybe a few minor bug fixes). This could change but as of right now... I don't think we should be expecting one.

would that make this the first time a dlc released without a free update associated with it if so we are in a lot worse of a state than I thought

I love that tbh lol

Maybe they would listen and give us coati for anniversary...

But yeah CC, YouTube, Instagram and here are all pointing out the pack of a coati in this pack that was perfect for it.
The anniversary species are generally reskin species, so not likely to have Coati as anniversary species, unless the Frontier already offered one Coati (let say, South American) then offers White-nosed as anniversary. I think this year the anniversary species will be either Black Swan or Nile Crocodile

I'm growing more and more convinced that they're intentionally avoiding adding some of the most requested animals either because they want to save stuff for a potential sequel. Like, I imagine they could have very easily added the Howler Monkey instead of the Saki, I can't imagine it would be that difficult, but they didn't. They have technically added another South American primate, which people have been clamoring for, but not the most requested one, which is odd. Same goes for South American species in general, they did hit a lot of requested ones like the Ocelot and the Rhea, but not the ones highest on most lists like the Mara or the Coati.

My guess is that they're trying to meet peoples' wishes (South American animals, birds, primates) enough to get sales, but not enough to where they won't have anything enticing to sell the next game.

(Or they're just doing the bare minimum due to having less staff but still having the ability to make profit off the game, and a potential sequel isn't even a factor. Which is probably the case.)
The main reason is that Frontier is suffering Financial hardships, but they expect the PC2 as Messiah, unfortunately the PC2 doesn't save the Frontier, it still fails in sales. Several staff were already transferred from PZ team to PC2 team, so PZ doesn't have enough staff to work on. The Black Howler needs howling animation, so Saki is easier to be made. 5 of 7 species from this coming American pack are reskin from animals already in the roster, this could be done by few staff and save up a lot of works. If the Frontier really thinks that meeting people's best-demanded species will cause they won't have anything enticing to sell the PZ2 game, they just worry too much. I personally think this is a stupid decision, b/c what still can bring revenues to Frontier is the PZ, not F1 or PC2, the Frontier should ensure that the PZ DLCs are well-sold, by doing so, offering the most wanted species is the straight method. As long as the PZ2 has aviary and aquarium system, as well as improved engine (the reason why the game often stuck when having more than 20 habitats is the backward engine) and road system, it will attract players to buy.

Yes it would. I guess there's still a chance that they announce/reveal an update tomorrow or later this week but... I wouldn't hold my breath for that. It would be pretty out of the ordinary and I can't think of a reason why they would wait on it (and based on all the content creator videos -- it seems they haven't mentioned anything to them about one potentially coming).

I'm sure we'll get some sort of base game update when the DLC drops but it'll probably just be smaller bug fixes and tweak. And I suppose what constitutes a "small tweak" versus what would get implemented in a bigger update is uncharted territory. Theoretically, something like making an existing prop flexicolor, adding new font pieces or whatever would probably not be a big enough add to crow about with a "major" update. So maybe there'll be something cool in the cards... But because it's not a new shop type, upgrades to UI, or whatever then they aren't hyping it just yet.

Not expecting this, TBH, but saying we're in new territory.

In all honesty, with PZ being 5 years old and Frontier having a new JWE3 game coming in a few months while the team basically provides free PC2 content for 5-6 months straight without any paid DLC... I guess I'm not shocked that we're not getting new features. But a few smaller things that are relatively "simple" to do would be nice and I feel like certain ones would get the community really excited.

Selfishly, my priorities tend to be species that are common in American zoos and ones I have personally seen.

Incidentally, I have been to the only place in the country that keeps rusty-spotted cats, a tiny little place in Florida. So yeah, I’d be down ~
i want that little kitty too

I think the most important thing Frontier should do right now is to develop a new engine. The potential of the Cobra engine is almost zero. If PZ2 still uses the Cobra engine, to be honest, even people in this community will not be willing to buy it.

also after watching a few update videos and reading some comments here are some hot takes.
  • Most people not here have actually said nothing about the coati.
  • people unsurprisingly are calling the rhea an ostrich
  • people absolutely love the ocelot literally saving the pack for one of the reviewers I watched.
  • people dont actually want another monkey a good handful made some sort of upset comment about it that wasnt make it another one. Someone even straight up called the concept of monkeys a wasted clone.
  • coyote is truly the most controversial pic
  • sheep and flamingo are just not talked about outside of general clone spam
  • bush dog is getting a pretty neutral or absent reaction
Yeah, because one thing we have to realise is that we aren’t the majority. Here are either hardcore zoo gamers or hardcore animal lovers and maybe one or another random (my friend only tried the forum once because I annoyed him and he buys every pack).

Most people have no idea what a coati is, and most people wouldn’t know a saki or even care about monkeys, they rarely are the favourite type of animals for most people. Most don’t know the bush dog, but they like dogs so it gets into a neutral spot. Coyote is either loved or hated, but it’s easily recognisable and it’s a dog and its a desert like mexican theme. Well, I would call a rhea an ostrich too if I saw it before the forum. And most people love cats.

wherever they were planning for pz2 was delayed for sure so they will probably get a new engine

Even if it was delayed (and given that the 2026 CMS game hasn't announced to be delayed yet and probably is the most likely candidate); why would Frontier abandon their engine they poured so much money in already, especially in their current financial situation where either developing a new engine or licensing an existing one is going to cost them tons of money?

Honestly, I don't even get where the idea gets from that the Cobra engine is the big limiting factor here 😅 Yes it has its limits, but so does every other engine out there and the benefit of having their own engine means that they have control over its potential more so than using a third party engine.
