DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Now that JWE3 has been revealed... Do you all think that Planet Zoo is over?
On the one hand, JWE2 came and went and didn't affect Planet Zoo.
But on the other hand, seeing the state Frontier is in right now, I wouldn't be too surprised if they simply abandoned Planet Zoo after this one pack
I don't think JWE3 would influence the decision since Frontier is focussing more on CMS games in general. So it does make sense to have all 3 games going at the same time. I think what has more impact is the possibility of getting PZ2 next year.

We just gotta be patient. Frontier also had folks at IGN Live over the weekend, right? All the focus there was on JWE3. And I'm sure there's stuff going on behind the scenes where the team is debriefing, making plans based on how the event went, etc. Plus the travel involved, potential for people to take time off after a weekend event like that, etc.

And they want to give that announcement some room/space to breathe. If it's not this week, it'll very likely be next week. Tomorrow is still within an appropriate range. But next week is feasible for an announcement too... Feels a bit weird to wait that long for me and not say anything on socials but this definitely isn't the first time this has happened.

There's dozens of very reasonable and realistic reasons they aren't posting about Planet Zoo at the moment. We know something's coming. Just let it ride.

The reality as it is right now is that PZ is the only game that they're actively putting out DLCs for. Up until the reveal of JWE3, it was also the only real source of "new" revenue, as no other game of their roster is putting out new paid content.

I'd say that as long as PZ is the only game putting out new paid content, we're still in the clear. Once PC2 starts putting out paid content and if JWE3 ends up getting a successful launch, then I think Frontier could be in a position where they can start phasing out PZ in favor for a potential PZ2.

Before that, I'd say that they'd probably not risk it.

We should also keep in mind that the current CM team is rather small and we don't have a dedicated team per game (nor ever had one aside from the one for Elite). The reveal of a new game takes a lot time and resources, it's only logical that the other games take a bit of a backseat.

Definitely! And, like I implied in my post I'm sure those folks have a lot to digest based on this past JWE3-focused weekend on top of what they had planned already for their games. And I'd have to imagine much of that is happening in meetings which... Sometimes I think people don't consider what actual work days can be like. A single one-hour meeting can require an equal amount of preparation and debrief time on either side of it!

Not fully sure what I'm trying to say except people need to realize it's all going according to plan as far as we know because we were never given an actual plan to begin with. :ROFLMAO:

Coati not being included in the Americas pack, despite being at the very top of the wishlist for a while now and fitting the pqck perfectly
This is going to be very unpopular to say: but while I think the coati should have been in the Americas pack I’m not too surprised it wasn’t included. While Frontier has focused on the top of the meta wishlist for a long time, it would only make sense that after a while they might begin to focus less on it. The Coati has been the top guy for awhile year or so, but Frontier consistently knocked out a lot of the other top animals on the meta wishlist before the coati got to the top spot.

While I think the coati should have been added (especially since we saw Frontier put in a ton of effort into the bush dog, making the lack of coati even weirder) if it wasn’t the coati being at the top we would probably be some other animal not being added. Like imagine if it was the Tasmanian Devil instead of the Coati, or even imagine if the coati was added in the Americas pack. Then everyone would just be jumping to ask why the next #1 animal isn’t being added.

Also while I know plenty will disagree, I don’t find many of the current top meta wishlist animals to be as “necessary” as a lot of our past additions.

I mean yeah ofcourse there always will be a number one animal.
I think the americas pack just sticks out because the coati was literally number 1 (atleast in the 2025 list) and fit the pack perfectly, and by extention also skipping over all of the top ranking south american animals not just the coati, but also mara, howler- and spidermonkey and the tamarin.
I think the highest we actually got in the pack are the rhea and ocelot in the 10-15 range

To all PC players: was PC2 release a mess or was it a disaster? I tend to read mixed things from what you all post. Do you also think in time PC2 will be out of the weeds?
I still don’t have a straight answer if cities skylines 2 is now playable or if its legacy is tarnished. I just remember what an irreparable disaster simcity was and how EA poorly handled it.
If we do get a PZ2 then they better test it a bunch and delay it if need be until they have a satisfactory game to be released.

“Disney world in 1956 nothing worked.” "Yeah, but, John, if The Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists."
PC2 is almost a good game. Once the June update is released I think it’ll be a worthy successor to the OG. All it needs now is the terraforming and foliage quality fixed.

The thing in particular about the coati is that... Why make a pack name it Américas and not include the number one animal wanted from that region? It wasn't just that it was the number one animal in the Metawishlists, because we didn't get it in ZKs either and everyone was a bit letdown but it wasn't surprising with so many other options avaiable. But if you make an Américas pack with coati at number one You can't tell me You know You are teasing people about it with the pack's theme alone. It was the obvious choice and there wasn't any valid or logical reason as to why it was skipped... It wasn't because of technical difficulties or lack of resources because we got the bush dog in that same pack and coati is arguably easier to achieve. So that's why it feels even worse that the coati isn't there. We were all pretty sure it was coming and then it wasn't. It wasn't the time to ignore the Metawishlist. And like You Say is not like it was a recent addition to the top five. I think it has been there going back to even tropical because i remember people expecting it or the tree roo. It is on pair with Oceanía not having the tree roo but at least that pack had two high effort animals.

I tend to agree here, even regarding the coati. To me, the Americas Animal Pack was meh, but because of the coyote and no mara, not due to no coati. Coatis are certainly adorable and often found in zoos, but I am not a devout coati fan.

What do you think is most likely?

  • an announcement later this week (not on Saturday or Sunday)?
  • an announcement next week (e.g. next Tuesday)?
  • an announcement significantly later (e.g. only during the next stream or even in July, August, September, October,...)?
