DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

The Dictionary still doesn't have terms for the Zookeeper's or Americas pack species, so it's not that informative, apart from thinking about stuff from Sumatra at some point.
For sure, but it may hint to some long abandoned anniversary animal (like Sumatran Elephant or Tiger) like that Aussie insect, that they then jammed into new pack (if we're still going by theory that these pack weren't planned. We know from before that their pack and animal designing isn't linear

If we're actually getting a new Asian elephant subspecies it will pretty unambiguously be the worst DLC animal inclusion of all time. Other than looking better than the base game Indian elephant (in which case they literally could have remastered it!), a Sri Lankan or Sumatran elephant would tread zero new ground while satisfying zero demand. In contrast, something like the African leopard or even the Arctic wolf clearly represents a different biome and location. I can't even begin to conjure a justification for it.

The monkey is cool, I guess. I hope they can include at least one bird of the many very good picks that wouldn't require an aviary mechanic.

I mean the writing was on the wall for a while people were slowly getting over the idea of scenery in favour of more animals to fill up the roster so Im not surprised the change happened but given how upset we have been every time the new pack doesn't have exhibits we might see one who knows.
I know it's a more prominent sentiment here, but I'd say that the fact that Frontier went for scenery over exhibit animals most likely points at the fact that scenery packs were still doing well enough to warrant that decision.

If not, they would have just gone full animal packs with no scenery at all, which would have been cheaper from a budget standpoint.

Maybe Exhibit Animals would get used if we had more big hitters like cobras, pythons, geckos, and chameleons
You say that, but maybe that's once again more of a prominent sentiment among us zoo fans and not representative of the larger player base. It's not like they didn't try to innovate when it comes to exhibits, we've gotten multiple variations on it (tortoises, semi-aquatic, sloth, butterflies, bats, ...) so maybe it's really just that exhibit boxes as a whole aren't as popular.

Small correction here, the Central/Kathmandu Zoo in Nepal has wild water buffalo. It’s not much but it’s something.
JustGoron actually visited this zoo and made a video of it; but people pointed out that they're more likely to be domesticated ones because they don't really match with what wild ones look like.

From what I can find the water buffalo at the zoo are taken from Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, which is home to the last wild water buffalo in Nepal but also some hybridised individuals. This article says that the identity of the buffalo at the zoo was confirmed as wild type in a 2003 genetics study, but in that same study I cannot find the zoo mentioned so whether this is true or not I'm not sure (it's possible buffalo from the zoo were part of the pool of animals used but it just wasn't clarified in the paper itself, or that the zoo individuals are just assumed to be wild because they're Koshi Tappu buffalo). Individuals from the zoo have also been used in conservation programs for the wild water buffalo in Nepal.

Looking at JustGoron's video I can definitely see what they mean, the white legs in particular stand out from what I'd expect from wild water buffalo. I did notice though that the 2003 study mentions the Koshi Tappu wild-type water buffalo having white socks, so this might just be a feature of that particular population. It's kinda hard to say with such little information available, but in any case their origin from Koshi Tappu at least means they have some wild ancestry even if they aren't pure.

Yak is it's own WILD species from asia/india and is different from other cattle species, especiall the domesticated ones. Yaks are being domesticated too but are not bred to be something else, they are still yaks.
So to me, comparing these two is just like you were defending not comparing jaguars and leopards.
🤷‍♂️
Well, yak is actually two species: Bos grunniens (domestic), and Bos mutus (wild). If we do get a yak, we're probably going to get the domestic one, which is basically just a Highland cow with slightly different horns.
If we get the wild species, it's gonna be totally useless, because (unlike wild water buffalo and domestic water buffalo), wild and domestic yak look pretty different... And yet basically they're just the highland cow but bigger

Okay, crazy thing but: don't buy them, leave the game aside und let the other people have fun, if you do not like the DLCs anymore.
The DLCs so far have all had at least one interesting animal that I really wanted... But this one definitely won't. I'm sorry but I'm not paying for two base-game animals again, especially one (the rhino) that I already paid for 2 times already.

Everybody has his own opinion and this is completely valid, but if I don't like the DLCs anymore, then I leave the game aside, but as other said before: You do you
This is the problem with this community: you're simply not allowed to have an opinion unless it's the exact same as everyone else's. You can't dislike this one clone, because everyone wants it, and if you don't want it then your only option is to "leave the game aside". You can't be against the idea of paying for base-game animals again, you can't expect quality from a product you're buying with your own money, no you just have to buy whatever cheap excuse for a product they've churned out this time, be it a new elephant, rhino, or both.
If I'm going to pay for something, I expect QUALITY. If this DLC includes Blackbuck (unlikely) then I may consider buying it, but... Is it really worth it to pay ten bucks for a single animal? Is it okay to encourage this disgusting business practice?
Is it okay to let companies perceive us all as mindless consumers that will eat whatever flavourless, pre-chewed slop they serve us? No.
It's totally fair to be upset over the abysmal quality of goods I'm actively buying with my own money, and some people need to get over it. Simply "not buying" the DLC isn't enough: the developers need to hear what's wrong with the product they created.

Are they? I know next to nothing about Yaks, apart from hiking vlogs, but on those they seem Sheep sized
Domestic Yaks can vary a lot in size, but wild yaks are some of the largest species of cattle in the world... Some domestic breeds are very small (including all the domestic Yaks I've personally seen), while other seem to be bigger and closer in size to their wild counterpart

Guys, we really need to address the Elephant in the room...

(I'm sorry about the pun, but it really is driving me mad 😂)

Soooo... I guess next thing we will know about the pack is directly the official announcement, isn't? No more hints or dev journal like the old days... And when do you think they announcement would be? In about two weeks? 🤔

Yeah I'm guessing it will be on June 10th

Anyones guess really.
With zookeeper and americas it was about two weeks.
The thing thats throwing me off personally is that the americas pack just came out on the 15th of april, not even two months ago.
So i dont really now whats going on here

Money is not a problem, it's just 10 bucks anyway, it's not going to have a terrible impact on my life.
The point is: I don't want to pay for something that I already have. It's a matter of principle.
No yeah, I get you. My own hunch on this pack's trajectory is already making it a low priority for me. I literally only just started buying dlcs because they're more expensive where I am and they're on sale. This pack has slightly more of interest to me with the badger and macaque already, but I'm not really holding much hope for the rest of the pack to continue that trend when everything else I care about is already here.

Frontier, you still have one month to correct your bad picks in the upcoming roster, please remove Asian Lion and the extreme clone Elephant from this upcoming DLC and replace them with other indian animals, If not I see a lot of angry and disapointed people on this forum...

Perfect: Any Pheasant, Ratel, Blackbuck, Giant Squirrel, Fishing Cat, Yellow Troat Marten, Gaur, Wild Yak, Pelican, Muntjac

Okish: Stork, Monkey, Nilgai,

No: Lion, Rhino, Elephant, Canid, tiger, caprid, Domestic food, axis deer, cital, pig, panther, jackal, wolf, fox, whatever other clone horrors lurk there

Also about the caprids, I still want Musk Ox, Mountain Goat and Aoudad, for me the Dall Sheep and House Goat don’t exist, so that frees up two spots for caprids, Chamois used to be my favorite animal as kid, so I would not mind them as well

Look I'm sorry, but no it isn't. We disagree with each other all the time here. We all have things we dislike about the game and we're all vocal about them too. Everyone is allowed to voice their opinion and people do it here all the time. Especially when they're negative opinions, this thread and several other threads are full of those. By others, and by me.

But what you're doing is not just "disliking this one clone" anymore. You've been overly negative about every pack since Zookeepers, going on and on posting negative and frankly borderline irrationally negative feedback over and over again to almost everything. At that point you have to realize you're no longer a person who gives their opinion; instead you just became a buzzkill in a group of people who still enjoy this game. It becomes annoying and people don't like that. This isn't a new thing or something exclusive to this community; that's how it is everywhere in life.

If you're going to a sports bar and all you do there is complain about sports, people will kindly show you the door. You're not a victim in that situation, you deliberately put yourself there. If you're old enough to be here on the forums then you're old enough to take responsibility for your own actions and you're supposed to be able to say "hey, maybe this just isn't my thing anymore if I keep feeling so negative about this". That's something that is expected from you, not just here, but in the rest of your life. Have some agency over yourself please.

And no you shouldn't be a mindless consumer and frankly you should be vocal about your feedback because that's the only way to change things. We do that as a community and we've done it over and over again with good results. Other people have been able to do it in a constructive fashion, even when their criticism was fairly negative. That's different than being negative almost all of the time, especially over things that we don't even know are a thing yet.

Again, I'm sorry, I know I'm harsh here but man I hope you take this to heart and do some introspection here. Because the way you're going is just going to keep annoying people more and more to a point where nobody is going to want to spend time interacting with you. And that will be on you, it won't be on the community.

Yeah, but I guess that is because this year Easter was too very late? 🤔
It would be a first if they are showing us the official artwork but not doing the official announcement in the short term.
Yeah.
Im just wondering how we got from 6 months in between barnayard-zookeeper-americas to seemingly 2 months betweeen americas and this one.
Especially since, atleast in my opinion, with zookeeper and americas it feels like they were a little short on time with the six months (some animals not looking as good as in previous packs/missing stuff/wrong anatomy, basicly no free update, scenery being alot of copy/paste).
Just raises the question how they managed to conjure this new pack seemingly out of thin air in lightning speed.
