[DW2] Distant Worlds 2 - A Journey of Discovery

In the meantime he shot me down :( just logged in to OPEN to see if anyone was present to take a commemorative photo together ... a few seconds and I exploded without being able to do anything. Now I have opened a ticket, let's see if those of FDEV will be lenient: hundreds of millions of exploratory data and weeks thrown to the wind for the amusement of an imbecile.

Well the great news is FD reinstated me at BP, all intact. Strangely enough I got a friend request from the CMDR who murdered me. Happy to join any Open revenge posse that might arise once we all get back.

"Dangerous" can come from the rank of the Federation of pilots as well as from the dangers that exist in the universe. It can be the result of both without excluding either.
Nope. David Braben clearly stated the game's subtitle, or surname as you called it, only relates to the Federation of Pilot's rank.

The game could be balls-hard or carebear easy (like AFKing NPCs in your mega turret-conda to earn a high combat rank), still called "Elite: Dangerous" and the context wouldn't change.

As for the incident, I feel little sympathy for the CMDR that thought "i'll just pop into Open to see if anyone wanted a photo" without proper precautions.
eg: exit orbit, supercruise away, exit PG, enter Open (given a "pirate" is unlikely to be say 1000Ls away from Beagle 2 lurking), check for hollows. Then go down to the planet, again enter away from the site, so you'll be 50km+ away if a ganker is there, giving ample opportunity to 15s log.

Sure it sucks to be blown up, but incredibly optimistic way of popping into Open, given everything. I'm glad their accounts were restored, but hope they've learnt to be way more paranoid (probably not right word, as they are out to get you ;) ).

My ship was destroyed twice on this journey.
Close to the Colony I went in open to join a friend ...<Please don't Name and Shame> destroyed me in a few seconds .. I asked him which prize wins someone who shoots somebody unarmed .. he was silent and said he does not advise anyone to enter in open without weapons .. I said that I was an Explorer and that my ship (ASP) had no weapons or defenses but that I would meet him in the bubble.
My luck was that I had sold my data in Colonia .. ✌
Anyway, anyone who shoots someone unarmed is very cowardly. 😠

Never log into open, no matter what. it is just not safe.

It's sad to say that I've ignored friend requests that I've recieved throughout this expedition, mainly down to the pathetic acts of a few muppets, who advertise thier intentions from the start.

I'm sure that's not what FD wanted the game to be about......but there you go:cautious:.

I've routinely accepted friend requests from everyone whose name isn't xxxhotgirltonightxxx. Never realised I shouldn't be doing that. Oops.

Oh well, I'll probably be in solo for the next few months anyway as I head off far from anyone.

Also, I hope none of you were trying to friend me as xxxhotgirltonightxxx.

I concur and subscribe to the same view that this is definitely NOT what FD intended...
...and to cut off any counter argument to the contrary right from the get go, I can state this with utter conviction, and then quote DBOBE's intent that PvP was intended to be "rare and meaningful". It definitely wasn't intended to be a "shoot everything that moves for NO game reason". End of discussion.

This is a real shame, because what we have now is simply a poisoned well. The acts of the minority are why the likes of you and I (not just a small group of players, but a significantly large number of players) can't have a better gaming experience more in line with what was intended from the start... but there you go.

In all likelihood - the majority of friend requests will probably be from friendly non-a*-hat CMDRs. Sadly it is impossible to tell which ones are really the rotten ones and which ones are the friendly type. As I said above - it's a poisoned well.

Somebody sais earlier that they "admired" a griefer for travelling all the way to Beagle. Can't say I concur. I'm just chuckling at the pain they must have gone through to get there in the first place, and believe that the ends can't have made up for the means. LOL.

Well done to all the explorers that made it - or are about to make it - to Beagle Point. And in fact anyone who had a great time on the DW2 expedition.
I stopped at Sagittarius A*, having seen the station built there. I tried this morning but stopped after 3k, dropped into normal space and just sat there for five minutes before logging off.

I'm conclusively burnt out now - 6663 hours logged in (if not actually doing anything) will do that. In addition, I'm afraid I can't square how the game has changed with what I used to like about it. I can't imagine I'll come back for space legs. I didn't buy it for that. Only a new galaxy with war fog is likely to make me log in again.

But my goodness, I've had my money's worth. What a ride!

I've thrown caution to the wind and tried to friend up with nearly everyone at the base camps. Most have accepted, but I got a few "declined" messages that popped up too. It's cool, I know some people are just being cautious, and others want to only have people they genuinely know on their friends list.

But I chuckle at the thought that someone might find me to be an intimidating unknown. I'll just say that griefers don't usually build mapping websites for the community. ;):D

EDIT: Also thought it might be amusing to point this out-- The worst "griefing" I've done to people on this expedition is flying up to them with my SLF, and making small translational circles in front of their canopy. :p :D

I’m afraid I declined a couple of friend requests during DW2 as I was too busy/angry at the time with fss endless scanning-I lost my cool with that on more than a few occasions. Plus a couple of requests had slightly suspicious names. To those who offered of good intent & were rejected I apologise! A couple I accepted then we never spoke. One I accepted but when I got around to requesting a conversation (much later - sorry!) didn’t respond so I unfriended him/her. Some I temporarily winged up with & afterwards wished I had befriended. Ah well, I’m sure there’ll be more expeditions! 🙂

If you cannot cope with a negative point of view then perhaps you need counselling as RL life is full of both positive and negative views and all have their place just learn to accept that.

@Whitmann for the record i loved my trip to Sag A and Beagle was very eventful, and tbh i am not surprised you burnt out. good luck in what you do dude. stay in touch from time to time. ZO

I decided to take the opportunity to go to Semotus Beacon (Oevasy SG-Y d0) since we're already nearby. I'm very glad I did -- I had a lot of fun getting there!

It was the first time I couldn't just plot my way to where I wanted to be. I had to manually target each new jump I needed to make. I had to use jumponium for the first time ever. To successfully make one of the jumps I would need an almost empty fuel tank (plus premium jumponium) to make the gap, and so for the first time ever I also had to carefully manage my fuel.. The trip out there felt risky and required me to get outside my comfort zone, which made it feel all the more rewarding to finally arrive at Semotus.

I flew out to Salomé's Reach and touched down to "plant my flag" as it were.

This whole expedition has been a great experience from start to finish. I've said it so many times now I fear I may sound like a broken record, but it bears repeating once again -- thank you, organizers, for your hard work and patience putting this whole thing together for our community. 🖖

I'll friend you when i get logged back in, not an issue, just an admiration.

I wanted to make absolutely sure that I have the necessary jumponiums to reach Salomé's Reach :) so I made detailed calculations in a notepad. Then I thought it would be even cooler to turn this into a spreadsheet that anyone can use. So here it is. Should be pretty straightforward I hope, you write your ship's jump range into the cell highlighted yellow and then it'll do the magic. You can also save a copy of the sheet for yourself, because I can imagine there might be problems if more than one commander is using it at the same time.
