[DW2] Distant Worlds 2 - A Journey of Discovery

So there are 100 people in the organisation team?
Or is it only 4 and just one twentyfifth part of you knows? You need to be precise! :D

I think there are about 45 members on the team, only Kaii and myself know the route (and FD of course too)... so my 99% remark may be a bit off. :D

But the route isn't all that import tbh. Its just a route, people know where we're starting, know where we're building stuff (roughly speaking), and know where we're heading.

The emphasis we want to promote on this expedition is the actual journey of discovery between the WPs, and not the WPs themselves, which to be quite frank, are just WPs that just happen to be in the right place for where we need to be by a such and such a date (to keep things moving along at a nice pace). ;)

Having a lot of time on my hands now, I could easily make each WP in an afternoon's session. I'm hoping the pace isn't too slow, but I'm expecting to do a bit of 'Codex filling' while waitng for the 'Snails' to catch up.

I always have the opposite problem: the pace is too fast for me!

Not that I couldn’t keep up if I set my nose to the grindstone, but I have the habit of wandering off a bit and taking my sweet old time exploring along the way, which slows me down a lot. On most group expeditions I find myself lagging behind even the slowest of paces.

I’m just not a fast explorer and I love to stop to “smell the roses” too often. I’m fine with that though, I’d rather fall behind and enjoy myself than rush and be cranky. Still, I do my best to stay on schedule when on group expeditions.

Will you prepare the same kind of enroute maps you did for DW 3302? These were looking lovely, and gave a nice overview of the different galactic regions the expedition was passing through:

Heh, I'm usually one to zip ahead. I just don't sit still for long. :D

Some examples:

I dragged a group of friends with me to Colonia and Sgr-A* nearly 2 years ago, as our first long distance journey. They had a hard time keeping up. I would explore around the area of each of our waypoints until they got there, then I'd zip on to the next one. So we still did our meetups, but in between I was always a few Kly ahead.

In the Outer Rim Station tour, I finished the loop quickly, then backtracked and attended the meetups, effectively doing the trip twice.

;)

So I totally understand keeping the waypoints secret. I'm almost horrified to think about how chaotic my flight path will be though, since I'll probably get the "ooh shiny!" syndrome, and zig-zag along, with occasional trips to turn in data, etc.

One thing that might be different this time though, is that I have an alt account in the bubble now. So I can fly to the waypoint, and do something else in the meantime too. So we'll see how that affects things.

Okay, so Erimus said that 99% of the people did not know the route plan. That means 1% DO know the plan! Given 7494 signups that means 75 people know the goods! (7494 * .01 = 74.94, or 75)

Since Kaii is one of them, that leaves 75 - 1 = 74 more people know the list of waypoints!!!!

Can we launch yet? :D

Yes you can launch. Please go. Just go.

Yes, each week a new map of a route will be posted here. Although those old DW1 maps were made before the days of EDSM, and were 'hand' created by me on paint.net LOL, so the new ones won't be like that.

All joking aside this morning I learned I won't be home Sunday, not until late anyway, so its likely I'm going to miss the launch. I can either head out now, wait and see if I do get home in time, or launch late Sunday night in between the US and AU groups.

Eh, I know the general direction we are going, and I can always make for WP2 from wherever I find myself Sunday night. I'm sure there will be adequate people at the three launch windows to crash the server even without me, LOL!

Yeah. I'm trying not to think about the instancing issues with that many ships in one place.
The highest number of ships I've seen in a single instance is less than a hundred and that's pushing it. Usually you can't get more than 20 or 30 before people start crashing.
With a thousand or two at each launch event, instancing is going to be challenging.

Shame! Stay up late and go with the Yanks

I might join but idk lol but what is the min fsd jump range ? I have a diamondback explorer that has 51.62 ly (fsd range laden) jump range.
Been thinking if I should join or not but have a little bit of time to join or not lol.

I just have a vision where as the roster goes higher and higher Dav (server dev at Frontier) is getting ever more agitated.

I'm also legit wondering at this point if FDev are doing anything special with the servers to account for it or if their standard protocols of bringing more AWS servers online is going to be business as usual.

Minimum is ~16ly I believe or 32ly odd if you want to do it with no jumponium required so your DBX has more than enough space.

Up to you on joining, if you haven't been on a joint expedition before I highly recommend it. Get involved with the different roles/groups going along and you'll get a ton out of it as we cross the galaxy and back!

Your jump range is good. Well above average compared with all commanders signed up.

Hello everybody,

I've been playing ED for a long time now and also lurked the forums, but I have not been involved in any real multiplayer yet, nor posted here.
So, I'd like to take this opportunity to say hello to everyone.

Already at DW1 it itched in my fingers and after I saw so many commanders joining, I said to myself "I will not miss this trip again!"

So I'm in and hope for a great time with you all.

Also I would like to thank @Erimus Kamzel and the other organizers. The work you must have put into this project is beyond my imagination.
