John C joining is awesome news!

I have a rift and am getting very excited about the possibility of using it with ED. Anyone with influence PLEASE push the guys to include the OR code!

I'm not sure about having 'influence', but I've posted in the DDF about it whenever I get the chance.

He's just being OTT for the sake of the YT video.

Aside from his poor jokes the immersion factor, or how believable the device actually is, seems like it's certainly there. He was saying that if the game was created with the OR in mind it played much better than if it was simply used.

Which means if the OR is simply a device to use during ED playtime it may not be quite as good as if the game was built around the device. (Or at the very least some design considerations given to it)

We shall see .. I did like the look of the OR and would welcome more feedback from people who have one to know what it's like - it may save me from having to splash out about £10K for a 4K TV

OR is awesome, and that's from someone who is still struggling with the motion sickness issues! I suspect I won't ever be able to play some games with it - first person shooters for example - but other things should be okay and I will persevere in the hope of finding my "sea legs" just because the difference between a monitor/TV (3D or not) and actually feeling like you're in the world that's being portrayed is so good it's worth it.

Is there any decent sources for 4K yet? I mean you get a 4K TV - what will you watch?! They're chalk and cheese anyway, UNTIL VR has 4K (perhaps per eye) and then you'll have a massive cinema (this is actually one of the side projects that is most interesting) in a headset anyway so large TVs for the "movie experience" could be obsolete.

There is a 4k TV channel starting broadcast next July, satellite then terrestrial.
Additionally 8k broadcast planned for 2016.
I'm guessing 8k is when it looks like your looking at real life or through a window/portal.
I wonder how long it would take to download an 8K movie if you cant access the broadcast lol. Even 300mbps would take too long.

Well, I have joined the ranks of those who purchased this device. Now I have to sit and wait. Beta's for Alpha's. Lovely. Hopefully it will be all the hype that is assigned to it. I do like the idea though. I can see many good uses. One thing that would be really nice is to have the head tracking function with eye tracking as well. I could see many benefits for someone who has physical disabilities being able to benefit from such a compilation.

I do hope the first version of the consumer unit isn't a ridiculous amount of time away. While I'm still impressed with the experience of the developer kit, the low resolution and screen door effect is becoming more apparent to me, over time, as I get used to the whole VR experience.

I just read that Hawken is getting it's official Oculus support the end of this month so I'm really looking forward to that. Not least because I cannot actually play the game as it stands as I do not get on with the cockpit view/dirty windscreen system on a standard monitor and am VERY curious how this will feel in VR. I suspect that it will feel like a completely different experience if the other VR demos are anything to go by.

I will be buying the Consumer version of the OR for both this, if supported, and Star Citizen.

Been lucky enough to try it out at a show. While the current version seems a bit grainy, due to the low resolution, it is an amazing effect.

The Consumer version is going to be in HD so it will be much better.

Aside from the fact that Hawken is rubbish (it's CoD with armoured suits), word is that it's barf inducing - everything just moves to fast and there's no inertia in Hawken, when you stop, you stop dead (regardless if you're in a 10 tonne robot).

MWO plays better with the Rift and TriDef, but is sub optimal due to your head movement being your torso movement.

Well, the main reason for trying it will be as an experiment to see how different a regular monitor representation of a cockpit is (which I don't like), compared to VR.

The EVR demo that CCP has been showing off is to become Eve: Valkyrie in 2014!

As much as I'm looking forward to ED, without Oculus support, I can imagine I'll be playing this one more for the combat action! I'm not saying I'd play the whole thing more because I think I'll get sucked into ED's breathing galaxy more deeply, but for a combat fix - something professional like this on the Oculus will be hard to beat! :)

It's pretty cool how a "free time" project has captured people's imaginations (and new technology) and been elevated to actual product too.

It's kind of odd that support for a lot of games is being announced before a tentative date for consumer version has even been mentioned.

It would be great if there's enough time for Frontier to make Elite: Dangerous ready for Oculus Rift for the release of the consumer version though. If the consumer version of OR comes out in Q4 of 2014, or early 2015, that may give enough time post-release of ED to get support ready.

Valkyrie looks pretty awesome though, and I can definitely see myself getting that.

I think people who've tried it are so wowed by it that the industry is leading expectation, rather than responding to it! ;)

Valkyrie does look very nice though.
