Oculus Rift DK1 Interface size

Hi,
I have a ''poor'' DK1 and i really enjoy the ED rift experience.

As a lot of people complaints here there's a big problem: the rift resolution:

I wonder if we should have a chance to increase or decrease the left, right and up panels and fonts, and of course the starport interface, since the ship tuning and the markets are really unreadable.

I think an 200% roughly increase size would be great.
I know you should have to look around reading everything because the size, especially in starports, but it would make the experience completely immersive IMO.
If you want an example you should really take a look at strike suit zero Rift interface.
Despite the game (not so great) the UI works pretty good.
Thanks for your time Devs :)

Thoughs?

As a DK1 owner, I feel your pain, but that could be a lot of developmental effort to focus on a non-consumer product that is being phased out. Even with the changes you suggest the DK1's just don't really have the chops to run the game at a truly exceptional level.

I know it sucks to say but it's the cold hard truth. The DK1's days are numbered now that DK2 is out.

I have a DK1 too, but I have to stand up a say, I think this would be a waste of development time. This would require a huge amount of effort for the UI guys to resolve.

The fact of it is, you and I both have a 'development kit' which is intended for exactly that; development. We cannot expect anyone to waste time on something that is not designed to be a consumer product.

i Understand your point of view in the discussion, anyway since we should expect a full Oculus rift integration once the Consumer version will be in the market i'd expect the chance to resize a bit the panels and starport markets.

DK1 aside, i don't think we should expect from CV this huge impromentent from the DK2, and if the rez will be the same or a bit more (maybe with a nice diffuser and custom screen) the text would be always too small.

Mine would be a suggestion for Developers.
Implementing in the code the option to custom a bit the panels and UI dimension, would benefit for newest Rift versions and for our almost blind DK1 owners :)

OK so I got a hold of a DK2 and I have to say, I am very very unimpressed. Sure the small room demo that came with the software was kinda cool, but ED looked like crap, I mean really bad crap. My being unimpressed might have been to the fact that I could not get the head tracking to work in ED, but I still just could not get over how bad the game looked.

Perhaps I didn't have it set up right but, but I could not get past the massive red, green outlines that covered everything that was not looking straight ahead.

I have it for a few days so will keep trying but meh.

Uh what you are seeing is the lack of chromatic aberration correction which is probably related to the head tracking not working. I do not see anything like what you describe. You do not have it set up right -at all-.

followed the guide.

Ok so redid everything, including my display drivers. I finally got it to work correctly. Kinda cool. Needs much better resolution but still cool.

So, IYHO, would you prefer the DK2 or Head Tracking (on your regular monitor)?

At Fantasticon I had the chance to compare a DK2 with a DK1 that's had the screen upgrade (thanks Stephen). There wasn't much in it but the higher resolution of the upgraded DK1 was obviously better. My own DK2 had arrived while I was in Hull and so I've had a chance to live with it for a few days. The writing is readable although not great. It's also easy to lean forward using the head tracker to make the text easier to read.

Changing the size of the text seems like quite a major upheaval, but I'm hoping that there'll be the option to change the colour of the text. It might be possible to experiment to see which colour is the most legible.

Maybe they can supply you with virtual spec's so you can read the text easier! CTRL-S to put on/take them off...

Glad you enjoyed the rifts at Fantasticon. It was fun showing them off! :p
Regarding the better res in the riftup... Technically they are the same res, but the pentile screen and higher FOV in the DK2 means the RiftUp screens appears clearer and sharper. If you have a powerful pc, you might try super sampling or down sampling the DK2 res to 2650 x 1440... Though it requires much more GPU power, the image is much sharper and cleaner, like the RIFTUP :)

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with Elite Dangerous Beta 2 and the original DK1 !?

I can't find the way to use my DK1 with Elite !

Hi Guys,

just bought the elite beta to use with my DK1.

Question, is there any way to make the text look more clear?
If i look left or right the text displayed on the screens is unreadable

Maybe it's a setting? can anyone share with a dk1 their settings?

Thanks,

The text is pretty much unreadable on the dk1 there's no work around it's down to the resolution of the screen. Even trying it with supersampling up to 1440 there's no way around it. It's the main reason why I sold my dk1 and why I'll wait for cv1 till I get another.
