....and sadly this is all you need to know about an online only game. I understand bugs need squashing, but how about a little notice so we can save / complete missions before you pull the plug?

i had no reason to complain on my eagle, was just one station over in the same system i started o_O

I agree, although the real "opening day" is in 3 weeks and I asume there will be tens of thousands of new players... Oh well, I guess it's always the same when launching an online game.

I managed to play a whole five minutes (well after the 20 minute update window) and I got kicked. Nice launch Frontier, I'm glad your fearless leader was confident that the servers could handle the load from all the time in beta. Looks like that plan worked out.

Say what you want about the whole offline debate but these type of issues at the initial point of the users forming their opinion of the game are exactly what sink games and in this case will accelerate people moving for refunds with either Frontier of their CC company.

So which ship did you guys pick? I picked the kickstarter explorer. I figured that was the best option. 4000 credits plus a well upgraded cobra mk III

never even see a menu, just the first logo then a can't authenticate message.

EDIT: after a few more tries now it's submitting crash reports

Agreed, but the timeout seems way lower than it was in Beta. In beta you could sit at a station waiting for the BB to open for way longer than 2s, now it just throws you back to the menu after 2. This won't be good for those with flaky connections, not that I have a flaky connection atm, it just seems a lot less tolerant. In solo too.
Before hand you could also log in and play the 'tutorial missions' can't seem to do that either.

Edit: I am not whining / ranting, just letting FD know.

Pretty frustrating that the team at FD don't appear to have anticipated the number of players who would be trying to get on to the Gamma build today.

I've managed to complete one simple courier mission for a couple of thousand credits, but had trouble docking at the destination port because it didn't seem to recognise me landing on my designated pad. At the fifth attempt the docking alignment map finally appeared and I was able to dock. However, I'm unable to pick up a new mission because every time I try to accept it, I'm either told "Could not complete mission transaction" or that the connection to the server has failed, and I'm booted back out to the main menu.

I've spent a fair bit of money on ED through the Kickstarter and now the beta, and this has been a pretty disappointing experience so far.

So much for "our servers are the same that Amazon uses and can easily scale to the load".
Maybe someone shouldn't have talked so loud.

Agree completely, this is a joke tbh. I really do understand the servers are being hammered but they should be ready for this so don't tell me patience grasshopper the servers should be capable of this traffic and then some.

No option here. I backed during beta and all I got was the default SW. I posted a question to the forum as I thought er were supposed to get to pick between one of five new ships and they said that comes later.
