ED to get Deathmatch modes for PvP ??

All the hacks out there render this pointless unfortunately.

A cursory google will show you that p2p leaves this all wide open (and hackers are a very adaptable breed!) no matter what FD do - which is sad.

In an alternate universe the pvp would be in zones and we could all get on in open mode... Until then i'm staying in solo away from the potential to lose all because of someones curiosity.

You can't even "lose all". You don't die, your ship is magically back and all you lose is the insurance cost. Grow a pair.

And, I think it is YOU that should play a different game because this is designed for an Open World where players can do whatever they want, even PvP.

However, making a fake virtual arena zone where players can fight each other seriously removes the immersion from the game.

Here I am happily playing Elite Dangerous. The one complaining about it is you.

So tell me, why should I be the one to change games? When the game currently fits the purpose of what I want to play, while you are the one who complains about all aspects of the game and wants to have it completely re-worked?

You should brush up on some of the interviews with DB and listen to what he has to say. Specifically the parts where he mentions that PvP is not the core of the game, and never will be.

FD have said before, that they are designing the game they want to play. It's their design and their vision. They've said they don't want PvP at it's core, so just come to accept that. There are hundreds of other games that suit what you want in a game. ED is a unique experience for what it has to offer. Putting in the stuff you want will just make it another run of the mill PvP space shooter.

I've said what I've needed to say. You can carry on trying to force your PvP design on others, and attempt it on FD, but it's just not going to happen. So there's no point really.

There will never be an Open PvE server and an Open PvP server. So I've said what I've needed to say on this matter. Carry on wishing if you want.

I think this subject would divide opinion no matter what but it does look like FD are seriously thinking about how to design something specifically for a PvP purpose. Wings clearly has code that could hold the foundation of this.

So, instead of making pvp matter in the game itself, we're going to have some weird deathmatch instance that will a) have no impact on the game world itself b) take players out of the game itself c) take time from devs that could have been spent on something that's NOT world of tank in space?

Tell me i'm wrong. Please.

Just wait until Frontier start balancing the entire game around PvP builds.

I'm just glad I got in during Premium Beta 1 and got to enjoy Elite: Dangerous as I envisioned it. With 1.1, 1.2 and the rumors of PvP arenas in 1.3, time for me to move on. I still feel I got my $175 worth.

Enjoy, CMDRs!!

Sorry I haven't a pair - spent time growing a personality instead.

You can lose all your cargo for instance, or vouchers etc (iirc) - Just go look at some of the elegant hacks out there (or the logoffski)

Simple question. If this is all conjecture for v1.3, then why is it in v1.2b? Slipped in by mistake? Doubt it. All files that have gone into the test server would have been chosen carefully so it doesn't mess with the test.

Isn't v1.2 beta a "Proving Ground"; like the conjecture about the external camera, it is best to wait and see. FD might want a large(ish) wing on multiple wing fight in the Sol area during beta.

For me ED is about RP and immersion so, at first, I thought, "No way! Not in the main game!" But then I thought I wouldn't mind PvP events in the main game if (a) they were organised by a faction (i.e. sanctioned by a system authority) to strict rules, or in an anarchy system out in the sticks somewhere; and (b) that they were part of the proposed ironman mode. I think it's wonderful that some players are already organising such events, and it goes to show that everyone can get out of ED what they want. As an aside, do we need separate PvP servers? Why can't the in-built grouping option cater for PvP'ers needs? After all, it seems able to cater for other playing styles.

Despite disliking PvP myself, it hasn't stopped me playing ED in open, and I respect that there are unavoidable PvP elements from time to time (though being asked for pewpewpew through comms is immersion-breaking IMO, I am an RPG'er afterall). Anyway, I wonder if there will be a mass exodus of PvP'ers joining an arena to concern FD, who want this galaxy to evolve through player input? And how would a separate PvP arena affect me? Well it wouldn't. In fact I may be tempted to take a separate commander and join in, if only for a break in playing style. As for PvP events in the main universe, if I don't like it, I don't mind finding another system to move to.

In general I think more gameplay options are good. There's a crowd that likes the arena style gameplay, heck I may even check it out myself.

The game needs a loot system though, because the rewards for doing things right now are very limited. We need a solid loot system that especially would add some more differentiation to ships, make them look a bit different depending on what was fitted, etc.

Because otherwise, what's the point of doing things like arena? What do you get out of it? There has to be a solid rewards. even the community goals seems to be losing their luster - since credits are the main reward people are determining they can make more credits for the time spent elsewhere.

But ... to win a tournament for a set of custom thrusters, or a rare paint job, or a power efficient shield cell bank, or bobbleheads! - now we're talking!!

Lore-wise, it should be easy enough to incorporate arenas into the galaxy. No death penalty i would think, it can be explained away as using simulated weapons like you see in military air force training. But there could be an entry fee. Maybe there would be different types of arenas such as Eagle-only battles where participants fly a standard config issued just for that event. I think the possibilities are endless. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea haha :p

Assuming this is a separate arena gamemode:

IMO, Elite has the most enjoyable space-sim flight model out there, and allowing players to experience it directly with 4v4, 8v8 or even 16v16 arena combat, without risking open-world progress, sounds awesome to me.

If don't think people should regard this as taking anything away from the main game, rather as an easy win to broaden the audience. As a repurposing of existing assets, all it may require are frontend UI changes for direct matchmaking.

I think FDev could be on to a winner here.

i just hope that 1.3 has some single-player game content & missions...
multiplayer doesn't really interest me all that much, it's fun enough but ultimately i'm alone in the game 99% of the time.

Nobody suggested it would be in 1.3 but it's interesting that the references are in there for 1.2 because I'm assuming that the Wings code is providing some kind of foundation for this to happen. If it happens at all. Of course, it could be the first expansion (Elite: Deadly for a reason...), and you pay-to-play giving you the choice.

Although I would prioritise getting the missions sorted I don't really see what harm an arena type combat event could possibly do. If you don't want to participate then don't. If you do want a place where you can play like minded pvp opponents who then it's an extra opportunity to do so.

Phew, damn glad for my seasons pass. Don't fancy paying for an arena mode and thankfully don't have to. Zone control will be fun though - BF4 in space :D
