I think the vision is that this is something you might do on rare occasions and not the be all end all way of making money in the game (which it currently seems to be for many people).

After just starting rare trading, I did find myself not trading ANYTHING but rares. With such high profits there is NO reason to trade anything else. So I do understand what FDEV is doing. You can't have that kind of trade profits in the game and still think people will trade other thing.

Also, if players keep posting pictures of how many MILLIONS they have in fully loaded type 9s when other player have been living off 400k in Cobras for months, it's will only show FDEV how badly this trade is unbalanced.

Now you have two choices. Sit and wait, and every 10 mins add a few more rares to your hold. Fly around a loop of rare systems, taking new on board and selling off those that have gained max value. Or, do some other form of money making.

Nope, that's how it was already. Now you can only buy what is initially in stock and that's it. At least in a game like eve, if your willing go where the greater risk is, you get greater profit. This system as it stands is utter rubbish.

Hmmm, I don't see how they've actually improved anything gameplay wise for anyone with the rare trade nerf, but they've taken away a lot of players incentive to live as a sort of nomadic trader / fighter which was... super much fun and varied. oh well.

Ed, seems like the devs were a little overambicious in "fixing" rare trading.
(I don't know what needed to be fixed, as it seemed to work like intended in 1.01.)

Now stations have NO SUPPLY at all.
Maybe someone could have a look at this?

And as always, no official word.
No "We'll have a look.", no "Works as intended", no nothing.
I got the impression, someone will monitor an Update-thread for exactly this kind of feedback, but it seems i am wrong.

never even seen the rare goods, so that doesn't affect me but it pretty clear Frontiere doesn't want anyone to make millions in a single day, which some people were doing using rare goods. Hope the crashes fixes and matchmaking improves the game, they are far more important to me.

They don't repopulate. Whatever you see your first visit is all you get, until you've sold those.

Hmm... maybe it was on 1.01 then, but i'm sure i grabbed a few extra last night as well after the last patch.

But ok, so, you can't sit and wait. No problem, just pop over to the next system and grab some rares from there. Easily doable with an area like Lave, Diso, Leesti (2 rares!), Zaonce, and Oerrre. What i was looking for was a similar cluster of rares around Bast. There is Bast, Eranin and one other can't remember the name of. Still can make a decent amount of those runs.

If these changes will make rare goods actually rare, I think that sounds like an excellent change!

Trading rares should not be a career option, simply something that you come across occasionally. Waiting around in stations for a respawn timer does not encourage fun or interesting gameplay.

My next suggested change would be that bulk traders in rare and expensive goods should have a much higher chance of encountering pirates. :D

I wasn't sitting round waiting for a respawn timer. I'd go off and do missions for rep and come back and add a ton or two then go off and do missions again. I *really* enjoyed the fun I had doing that. Way more interesting than flying around from system to system just docking and trying to second guess where the background simulation had put the trading goods.

I'm with you on that one. I think they're trying to balance out the wealth between players.

From previously in this thread:

Hi Stalker

Thanks a lot for this - the detailed examples really help. I thought I'd just let you know the dev team really appreciate it and are looking into sorting it right now. They intend to be watching this thread all afternoon for this sort of thing - they've got eyes and ears everywhere that lot.

Kinda wished for a fix to those warzone reputation issues, but at this rate, they'll be gone and forgotten in a matter of days.

I hope...

I'm with you on that one. I think they're trying to balance out the wealth between players.

But.. some people (those that are good at it) are also making millions in hours by trading, or bounty hunting :p the only way you can't reliably do it is running missions or fighting in war zones since 3000/ship no matter the size is... just.. weird :p

Rare to me, means that they don't appear very often. How can a rare item be traded commonly like every other merchandise. Obviously people are just hoping to make a quick credit rather than indulge in actual trading.

If you haven't done it, don't spout your opinion on it. Just saying. Going off of some troll howling about millions and not actually knowing that to make 1 million a trip would take 5 hours to stock your hold... plus another 1 hour travel...

I was making close to 500K for a 3-hour session. This includes the travel, exploration of undiscovered systems, and fending off pirates.

I can make that in about an hour with bounty hunting. I can make ~1 million an hour mining. I can make twice that an hour, if I hunt down a system with two stations at a profit of 500cr/ton that take 5 minutes to and from. I know that because I've done those things.

Great update - and rares are rare again, well done, it was silly to see people just "farming" the market and calling themselves "traders". Diversify and suck it up.

Why do you keep on reducing the profit from trading? Is it one or more of the following?
A. Too many people are solely/mostly trading and not doing any story missions?
B. You make too much money from trading compared to other ways of making money?

From my point of view I want to make millions and millions then start doing the story missions. I am going to keep on doing whatever makes the most money. So if your answer was A, then I am afraid you are going to keep on reducing the reward for the action that pays the most, cause that is what I am going to be doing till I have enough money.

I will get to the story and fighting for some faction part of the game later, muuuuuch later in fact the more you reduce profit, the longer it is going to take me to do the other things to do in the game. I promise I will do all the other things at some point, but for now, trading for money, money, money.

Kind Regards,
CMDR AliceD of the SS DarkRum

Good post, agree.
Some player only notice thiers fun of play. And post like made 2 milions in one evening. Sorry this is game broken thing so nerf rare trade was very good decision from FD.

I really don't get the ruckus about rare commodities, whenn i still can't play the game as intended due to horrible stutter and slow down whenever i'm near planets. This issue exist since Beta now and never has been fixed. And i'm not alone, as you can find others on the forums that adressed this very problem before.

But that's not what it is currently. For the time invested (waiting for a full hold + exploration + interdictions + 10+ jumps), this is less remunerative than bounty hunting or finding a great trade route between two stations.

I don't agree. I can make 500k per run in my cobra in about 45 mins. I made enough in one game session to buy a ASP. Without one fight or interdiction. Which is fine. But, other activities in the game do not pay as well. So if rare trading will be this lucrative, then every other profession needs a huge buff. Or they nerf that one trade item and make small buffs to everything else. Which is what it seems like they are doing.
