Are people moaning that rare goods are actually rare goods?!? Seems strange. Rare means scarce/limited/not many. If they were readily available and constantly replenished then this would be "Common goods" or even "Plentiful goods".

They are complaining about the removal of a playstyle which incorporated trading, bounty hunting and exploration which was moderately (but not extremely) profitable until today.

Mining = 500K - 750K for less than an hour of work. Trading between two very close stations with 700cr profit per ton = 450K/hour. Bounty hunting as of Gamma 1.02 = 20K per kill (average) for 4-5 minutes with a geared ship = 400K/hr.

Why not just leave it be?

Well said!

The Devs need give something to those with bigger ships who NEED the higher rewards which are NOT scaling with the game. Doing 10k courier missions in a 60 million ship doesn't really do much. With the trading nerf as well as the rares nerf and the missions not scaling I'm not sure exactly what the devs expect those with bigs ships to do to maintain all the costs?

Exactly right. You can get into larger ships, but you just can't afford to do anything with them for fear of loosing them. That's why nerfing rares hurts so much :(

Is there a new requirement to moan and groan and gripe and whine rather than raise a ticket and post it to the devs?

You might not feel as good but it may be a whole lot more productive!

Ah, this bug won't last long now. It's now happening 100% of the time. :)

There's nothing more annoying to a programmer than an intermittent bug... and nothing easier to knock on the head than a bug that's happening 100% of the time.

Your analysis gives me hope. Still, until it is fixed this game will never be a patch on the game it should be. Can you imagine if Battlefield launched in this state? Can you imagine it launched without that?

Come on Devs, we know you can do it.

Excuse me Sirs.... I am talking to you, employees of Frontier Developments. I have NEVER seen a game launch so smoothly. What's going on with GREAT patches in the first 24 hours? How about the VERY short downtime? I could mention some MMO, or perhaps a certain RPG. Both have grande budgets. Yet, you guys pull off a smooth launch AND a game that works first go on release. Stop this hard work, just stop. You're only supposed to care about money. Not the quality of your product. Excellent work guys. Sorry for the ass-kissing. Couldn't help myself.

Listen to what the lads and girls are saying. We are not happy with this Rare Commodities Nerf.

Aha, and I thought no other cdmrs wanted to say hello when I attempted a greeting.
Great work guys.

Me too, I felt like the ginger, middle child last night (;)), saw a couple of Cmdrs, tried to talk to them and they appeared to ignore me.

Now I'm telling myself that it was broken comms (and checking for Ginger hairs) ;).

I've raised tickets with no response. I don't live or want to live in Cambridge. Got any other suggestions?

Can someone please explain what is the actual fix for rare goods, it's not clear to me.

I just had to take a min out over this. Spent most of the day so far (my day off) searching for rares. Got to 100 and had enough. Really had enough. Been trying to trade for days and nothing is worth my time. So I was off to sell my rares and call it a day. Then the server went down as I was near a sun. Came back after the update and read the rare update news. Sold my rares I worked for all morning and shot off to see what had happened. Nothing!!!!

Hehe, so sorry Devs. I do love you all but I think I will quit for a while and calm down.

One word of advise for you wonderful Devs. Please talk to David Tucker from iRacing, or any of the Devs (they chat freely with us all) as they know so much about your situation. Every one of them will tell you how difficult it is to keep their members. It's a nightmare for them. There comes a point where nothing can get them back.

Good luck!

If you haven't done it, don't spout your opinion on it. Just saying. Going off of some troll howling about millions and not actually knowing that to make 1 million a trip would take 5 hours to stock your hold... plus another 1 hour travel...

I was making close to 500K for a 3-hour session. This includes the travel, exploration of undiscovered systems, and fending off pirates.

I can make that in about an hour with bounty hunting. I can make ~1 million an hour mining. I can make twice that an hour, if I hunt down a system with two stations at a profit of 500cr/ton that take 5 minutes to and from. I know that because I've done those things.

An I'm sure Frontiere will further refine the amount you can earn from Mining and other activities as well. We already seen them stopping huge pay out in exploration.

I enjoyed rares trading; dragging a large cargo load across 200ly - exploring and fighting along the way - that's what Elite was all about to me. Now; trading is broken and rares trading is pointless. I don't want to spend my days at a nav beacon so that seems to be it for ED, what a shame! They've announced this 'race' to be elite and prizes etc. - I suppose this is why they keep killing anything that makes money or allows progression; they don't want someone to 'win' their race next week. Personally; I couldn't care less about that and whoever wins the money is welcome to it. I joined beta to play the game and enjoy it 'my way'. That's what the ED blurb said; Play it your way. I don't want to spend thousands of hours grinding nor do I want the only way of making money to be bounty hunting or (the incredibly boring) mining.

Hi Stalker

Thanks a lot for this - the detailed examples really help. I thought I'd just let you know the dev team really appreciate it and are looking into sorting it right now. They intend to be watching this thread all afternoon for this sort of thing - they've got eyes and ears everywhere that lot.

Also ask the to interject some instability to the market in random places. Right now the market is too flat. Its not very varied at all.

In a lot of cases you would have an extremely high demand amount in some systems where you'd see 200% prices until a certain threshold is met. Even generating missions in the bulletin board for people to acquire the stuff they need.

There also needs to be desperate sellers - meaning volume is so high they can't sell enough so they sell it dirt cheap at a loss to get some cash flow.

Think of it as me providing an overabundance of raw materials to a station that produces a good like synthetic fabric. Their storage space is limited on the station and they are full, meaning production needs to stop until they clear some space. This means people would be laid off work. They need to move product so they offer a "sale". They advertise this sale in the local GALNET feed. Synthetic fabrics are 50% off - limit 100 per customer.

This adds a random chance you hit a station that has a sale where you can score a major profit.

Right now its boring and difficult finding a decent profit even with the trading tools. I'm not looking for home runs all the time but we should encounter random stations with high demand and pricing that is ABOVE what we see right now.

We rarely see a profit even at long distances on regular goods beyond a 10-20% range. There needs to be those occasional 50%-100% profit runs that are hard to find. (that are not rares)

Because those tickets are sitting around for months!
We all have tickets stil there from beta and gamma versions, that haven't been looked at at all.
So many among us experienced, that this forum is the better way to communicate with the devs, as it seems they look here and even fix stuff mentioned here, faster than through tickets.
That's why.
(as a sidenote, when you look into the rare-thread, you'll notice many of us already raised a ticket about this issue parallel to mentioniing it here)

And this "you know better than the devs?" statement is just childish.

The amount of income nerfs thus far are staggering.. Why is my balance any concern of yours? Why is that people believe that flying an Anaconda is so sort of end game? This is supposed to be a sand box game... Yet it's going to take months/years to get the toys we want to use to play with said sand? I simply don't get it. There is no end game.. The "biggest, best" ships don't make you any better than anyone else. In fact... I take out Anacondas and Pythons all the time in a Viper.. So that theory need not even be poked at. Rares were fun, before they were nerfed into the ground.. I enjoyed them. It wasn't just about the money.. It was about risk vs. reward and the journey. A 400+ LY round trip.. A lot of fun. Once they nerfed the spawn.. I quit trading completely... Markets were either not working or over saturated to the point where I would either take a loss or the profits weren't worth risking my ship. I also fail to understand why these small issues are being looked at more so than the larger, more game breaking issues. I implore you, FD.. Get your priorities straight.. I love this game.. Most of my friends have already stopped playing until something changes for the better.. And now, with bounty hunting being borked, missions and progression being screwed up.. I am looking at doing the same. A game should not be a job.. But a form of entertainment. Let the flames begin.

I love how people said they didn't want this to be like EVE, well eve was a second job with spread sheets. In Elite you gotta write things down with pen and paper due to a lack of proper in game quality of life features. This really is eve 2.0 at this point. Grind away people! your new job awaits!!!

In all seriousness. FD please reconsider this change to rares, they should be an alternative form of trading. Do not degrade this game into a cesspool of monotony just to have a few minutes of enjoyment.

I think what many people are getting confused with(perhaps even the dev's) is it's not really the lump sum of credits earned, but the time in which they are earned(Credits per hour If you like) against other activities in the game.

Rares as there were pre 1.2 took around 2-3 hours to earn on average 1.7M credits. A decent trade run, say earning 130K credits every 10 mins or so earns about the same amount.

The difference is, is that the normal trade route involves:
Going there and back..
Going there and back..
Going there and back..
Going there and back..
Going there and back..
Going there and back..
Going there and back..
Going there and back..
Going there and back..

instead of working your way across an often difficult route that needs fuel scoops, care and a quite a bit of luck.

Some people like the there and back repetition, others would rather earn the same amount the long way around. This changes seem to have cut off the long way round and replaced it with short, easy hops..

They were not, they were simply expressing their opinion of what they thought was best. Just as you are also entitled to do. I think you need to reread their post.

I did:

Waiting around in stations for a respawn timer does not encourage fun or interesting gameplay.

I made around 450k on a single rare run before it was nerfed and that was only using a cobra, not a proper trade ship which can carry far more. That was a bit OP :p
