Elite Dangerous (incl. Horizons) will be free to keep via Epic store from 19th November (offer available for a week)

I was talking about Epic. In the game industry it is not at all in a dominant position, on the contrary, the one that is in a dominant position about the PC Games market is Steam not Epic.
You rightly are against monopolies and at the same time support Steam and Apple and bash Epic that is trying to break it, you are a little bit contradictory.
I refer you back to my previous post ....

Well .... I did compare them to Disney ... so ...

To Clarify ... Yes I don't like Epic. I have issues with the way they do business. I won't say no to free games though.
And I don't limit that to Epic, in the UK we have a bus company called Stagecoach. When they started they put a lot of other bus companies out of business. Others might forget that, but I won't.
I don't like how Disney buy everything. I'll still buy their movies though ... and yes I see the hypocrisy in that.

What I am trying to say is, I don't have to like a company, but I don't let that stop me from enjoying stuff.

Lol free is still too much to ask. :)

Does anyone sense a subscription model coming maybe?
Nope, Elite Dangerous won't have a subscription model.

Unlike CIG who rescinded on Kickstarter promises and implemented a subscription model ($10-$20 per month) for Star Citizen news & testing.

Except this is an Epic store thing that they do every week but don't let that spoil your narrative.
😂 Had a similar doom-narrative on Reddit too:

Q: Uh, does this point to Odyssey potentially being an EGS timed exclusive?
A: Nope. Odyssey is an expansion, will be given to us Lifetime Expansion Pass owners automatically, and is already listed on Steam anyway.
Common sense just isn't very common 🤷‍♂️

Just theorycrafting how the EGS copy will work.. without further knowledge, i think there's an increasing chance its going to be screwed.

There aren't any google results for people looking to take keys out of the EGS.

The worst and likely outcome is they will be like the official and current steam setup (.... why would it be anything else its frontier).
The only hope we may have is if we're required to make a frontierstore account, link the 3rd party egs account, but via some new grace we're allowed to log into via the frontierstore username and password. (unlike how it currently is? don't know never tried a modern account).

Which probably means we're screwed.

... I can't imagine why frontier would have done this. There's only one possible option that exists, the money epic would pay frontier would be greater than the development cost of extending the launcher to support egs. There's zero motive otherwise for frontier.

I've been telling everyone I can about this. Not gonna lie, not a single person I've asked to get Elite (for free on the 19th) seems very excited about it. What can I say to help them get hyped for Elite?

Nothing, if they don't want to play they don't want to play.

I'd ask them to get it for free on their Epic account regardless. They don't have to actually install or play it but it means at a later stage they can if they decide they want to.

This is a bit of the effect I've noticed with my PS plus/Game Pass subscription. Getting a game for free (or hundreds of them throughout the years) does not make me want to play it if I'm not interested.

The best you can do is really just talk about the game to get them interested to begin with, not focus on the free part - that's a bonus.

Don't bother. ED is a very niche game. Most people won't actually enjoy it, and its nothing to do with how good/bad the game is. Simply most people don't care for space sims. I know, i know, it might come as a shock to some people.

If people like space sims, they will already be hyped themselves for it.

Curious, I would love to play a space simulator. I bought Rogue System in 2015 I think, but sadly the developer had a health problem and couldn't continue the development.
Do you know any space sim? The genre is so niche there're no simulators at all.

You said ED is very niche game, yet it sold millions of copies on PC and console, I don't understand.

I call ED a space sim, but i suppose it depends on how tight a definition you want. Kerbal might be more of a space sim, since it models space flight more accurately. But accuracy can be boring as well, sometimes fantasy is more fun.

If everyone hates epic launcher why not put on gog galaxy and link it to your epic account? 🤔
It will still launch the Epic launcher.

One issue I have, and this applies to Steam and Origin (or whatever EA have renamed it to) is I want to launch the game, not launch a launcher to launch the game.
As good as the GOG launcher is, for being able to launch all of your games, you are still using a launcher (GOG) to use a launcher (Epic/Steam) to use a launcher (Frontier's) to play ED.

You still have to install Epic launcher to do that. I don't think you can install (or even play?) any game from Epic without using the Epic launcher. All GoG Galaxy does is launch the launcher for you. Am I wrong about this?

edit: went ahead and tried installing a game from Epic library via GoG Galaxy and it opens up the epic store website. So there you go.
