Does anyone want my stuffz?
Thank you for this information.Greetings Commanders,
Thank you for your overwhelmingly positive response to the announcement of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. We’ve been really excited to share this and it’s amazing to see that you all feel the same way!
This is just the beginning and we will be sharing more details and information in the coming months that you can look forward to.
We’re seeing all your streams, videos, posts and questions and, today, we wanted to answer a few for you straight away:
Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?
Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.
Will there be Base Building in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey?
Base building is not currently on the roadmap for Elite Dangerous, however we have plenty of new features planned instead such as on-foot exploration, new planetary tech, social hubs, combat as well as more to be shared later on! We’re looking to put our best foot forward with Odyssey and if you’d like an overview of what to expect, you can check out the website or Steam page.
Will Elite Dangerous: Odyssey be included in my Lifetime Expansion Pass?
While Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is a paid expansion, we're happy to confirm that yes, this expansion will absolutely be included in the Lifetime Expansion Pass for free.
Stay Safe, Commanders o7
actually we are going back. If we can't play the functions we have now in VR (flying and SRV) in the Oddyssey launcher, it means we have to restart the game everytime we get out of our ship or SRV and back. That's going back.
I also think you're mistaking how many people are playing in VR.
About 2.8% of the player base. We can only tell for sure if we get our hands on a Steam Chart, and even then it's an estimate. Steam Charts are a widely accepted source of truth around here.

All of the VR players on here (like 10% of the playerbase) acting like they are entitled to VR space legs?? Why. Frontier have said that this would take up considerable resources which would mean more delays to launch.
Here is my message to you VR players:
YOU are a MINORITY of the playerbase and the MAJORITY will not accept delays to Space legs just so you can sweat it out in your £500 headsets. Get back in line and realise that you should be patient. Remember, Frontier have not ruled out VR in the future.
Hey thanks for speaking for the whole human race!...another useless 'feature' nobody wants.
Valve also sells VR hardware. They have an incentive to invest money in VR games. Why can Half-life Alyx deliverer steady 90 fps in VR always...
In what game? We’re big fans of VR
I don't have much hope it ever will be. How long has this update taken since 'Horizons'? Four and a half years. Just looking at the implementation of Multi Crew, with it's 'teleportation'/Hologram mechanic speaks to me.Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch
i play in vr with oculus or directly form the launcher, never with steam there is no way to know how much elite player play in vrI am one that plays with the Valve Index, looking forward to see how that will work with space legs!
I've no problem with people enjoying things that I cannot. You can't play in VR can you? It makes you violently sick doesn't it. You hate the though of people enjoying themselves doing something you can't do don't you. DON'T YOU!
If VR is not supported, it simply won't display onto the headset.

Same for me.I hadn't touched ANY game in 35 years until VR came out. That's when I started playing again.. As long as there are still other games in VR to play I'll play.. if not.. I can do other things with my time.
If frontier gives VR a chance a lot more!About 2.8% of the player base. We can only tell for sure if we get our hands on a Steam Chart, and even then it's an estimate. Steam Charts are a widely accepted source of truth around here.

Hardly consistent with pervious patches if you ask me... Multicrew for example.it must be perfect otherwise we don't do it
I fully agree with you on this one Stuart.Cheers for the answers, Tim.
"For launch" implies further information. Is VR support being developed for an Odyssey-update post-launch?
VR is a major feature for Elite - it's widely regarded as one of the best VR games available - so axing VR support from future expansions would be extremely unwise imo. VR would be unfortunately be added to the perceived ever-growing-pile of abandoned features.
As Horizons will still support VR, what happens when one wants to play in VR: logout of Odyssey then login to Horizons?
Considering the enormous goodwill and enthusiasm yesterday's announcement brought it'd be very disappointing to apply the handbrake. 2 steps forward, 1 step back etc. Killing the golden goose is counter productive.
If production is tight with the Elite devteam being fully utilised already, then this is a good reason as any for FDev top-brass to expand the devteam further.
Yes there has been, but if horizons continues to run on an old cobra engine (no confirmation but it's the current speculation than odyssey will be using a newer engine) then some of the new stuff may not make it.
