I've only just seen this post, wow. I'm stuck. ALL of my game are on steam, but elite, I'm debating weather to merge to steam,
I have a question, If do merge over to steam, let's say steam is down, could i still used my old or current even elite files instead, as on steam i get a 4.8MB /s speed, and with the elite launcher it fluctuates to i don't even know but is longer to download patches and updates.
Steam installs your E
( in my case the dedicated games hdd "G:\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous" )
this is a very minor problem if you use tools to change your UI color, because that tools look in E
(there is an easy workaround with "junctions" or symbolic links on modern filesystem, like NTFS. open a CMD, with! admin rights and change REPLACE THIS TEXT with your users folder name:
the "Products" folder on C should be copied to your steam lib, or backed up, because you have to delete the real folder to create a symlink on it's position.mklink /H /J "C:\Users\REPLACE THIS TEXT\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products" "G:\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products"
Don't worry, this is a common used tool, integrated in Windows, to save space and link files or folders to different places at the same time, without having a full duplicate occupying 2 times the file size!
The savegame file is/stays on Frontiers server, you may want to copy over your control schemes or graphics-config files
i'm not sure about updates. Steam could update the game files unlike some other games (planetside 2, WarThunder) which only get updates using their own launchers
