Engineering and Pre-Built Ships

Is there a way I can buy ARX for my son and send them to his account?
No, unless you use your card while logged on to his Elite account.

We used to be able to send cosmetics purchased in store as gifts to other players, but that functionality was sadly taken away when Arx was introduced.

Massive shame and no info from fdev about this, despite repeated questions, unfortunately.

Sorry for the translation, but it's the right move and it's pretty clear why.

Because what there is in Elite except progression?
I got my ships fully engineered back in 2017 or so and carried on playing. Sure, I outfitted the occasional new ship since then but I've mostly just been using the ones I already have.

The older FE2/FFE games you could get any ship of your choice fully outfitted in maybe 20 hours of play without even having to exploit some edge cases and some people played them for years.

I didn't see many people criticising the 3.0 reform of engineering to fixed limits - or calling for the old random rolls method to be put back - because it reduced the amount of progression available.

There's always been reasons to play the game other than "upgrade your ship" and for the people who play the longest an increasing amount of time will likely be spent not upgrading their ships.

That's not to say that it's wrong to enjoy the upgrading process - I quite liked it too - but the regular calls to make engineering simpler and quicker suggest that there's plenty of people who just want to get to the "attacking Thargoid spires" or "hauling thousands of tonnes of Powerplay commodities" bit which they find more interesting.

I am definitely one of those calling for it to be easier and quicker. I am a long time casual player, like a lot of other folks here. I will freely admit I find engineering in it's current iteration to be frustrating and confusing. One of the biggest things I am perplexed by is pin/unpin blueprints. I can not work out why this is necessary at all as a process. I am in a ship with a computer that records all sorts of data but I have to pin and unpin blueprints to access them later on ? That makes very little sense. Once I visit/unlock an Engineer, I should just have access to those mods anywhere there is a "blueprint station".

That's just one of those things that grinds my gears about the current Engineering. The whole system seems complicated for no real reason. If I had my way, I would simply allow Engineering mods to be bought for ingame credits at the Engineering facilities full stop. No flying all over to get mats and other superfluous stuff.

In my mind a better system would involve doing missions to unlock the Engineers themselves and that's it. Once they are unlocked, go nuts. This is just my opinion, not a universal truth ;)

I remember the time when this was put into the game and there was a bug. For a long time. There was a rule if you flew away from an engineer, check if your blueprint was secured.

I would like to bring up a few points that are a little bit annoying when people are complaining about the pre built ships
First I want to say thank you to Frontier for this as this idea would only bring extra people into the game and extra $
So here is what I have to say to those complaints
1. there are people who want to enjoy the game realistically, and who cannot afford to spend weeks at a time in order to achieve some result to be able to enjoy the game, we just want to login a couple a time a week and relax, and not worry about grinding like crazy to get "elite rich", at the same time we would love to enjoy all the aspects of the game
2.People who spend most of their time in the game should not worry because we dont have the intention to come in and challenge you in any way, we know you're much more advanced at it, or to prove anything to anyone
3. This idea is not only for new players and getting them in the game but also existing players who just want to play occasionally

Having said that I hope this is only the begining of how Frontier will make it possible for more people to enjoy the game and also not get greedy at the same time :)

Maybe this has been addressed in this thread, but I can't seem to find it if it has...
I am on my FC, well past Sag A and I decided, for fun, to get one of these prebuilt ships. I bought it, and decided to mess around with optional internals but planned on putting the shields back on it when I was done. That's when I learned that it instantly sells it - no warning - when you do this. I missed this the first time it happened and it automatically sold an engineered module that I had engineered - no warning. Can't see how that's right.
In this thread I saw something about how you can rebuy these things if you do it right away, but that was no an option for me. I can't rebuy them I'm guessing because my FC doesn't have these modules available for purchase. I'm guessing they are gone forever, correct?

I really wish these modules could be kept and stored, but only permitted to be put on the purchased ships instead of just lost forever that easily. I mean, we're paying actual money for these ships.

Open a ticket with support, they may be able to help.

You can rebuy your pre-built ships for free every time. However if you modify the ship with credit purchased modules then you would need to rebuy that cost.

This may have been answered already (many times over considering the length of the thread), but I'm still a bit confused about the rebuy cost if you lose the pre-built ship.

I understand that you pay 0 replacement for the hull and any of the original modules, and that you would pay credits to replace any new modules added, but what if you engineer one of the original modules that came with the pre-built ship? Can you rebuy the engineered module? If so, do you just pay credits for the value of the engineering?

Thanks
LP

Apparently, if modules are engineered and the ship is destroyed, the replacement zero rebuy ship will have the existing engineering.
There is no credit cost for engineering ships, so the rebuy remains zero.

I've not tested this myself, but it was mentioned by another player in one of the groups I am in.
