Suggestion to Developers - External Ship Views
I would like to be able to look around my ship, not just out the window,
I would like an external third person view (maybe allow it to rotate so I can see my ship)
The game is beautiful but I feel a little "trapped" sometimes
Crazy idea.... a drone or controllable missile with a camera on board? If you absolutely INSIST there will be no external views

After what i heard in the switch streaming of yesterday (and after a night to recover from the shock: ''there will be no an external view, but only windowed in cockpit'' 
) i had this wierd idea:
External view in the virtual monitor inside the cockpit for all (and for the DK2 users)
but what about a FORCED* 2nd monitor for an external view ?
*=you can have a full res external view only in a 2nd monitor and (of course) during the combat it will be switched to 'off state'... otherwise you will have the simply external view in the little monitor of the cockpit
opinions ?

How about extending this to SOLO OFFLINE mode? ie, in Solo Offline, when you activate external view, a full screen external view is shown (plus not everyone has a 2nd monitor).
Would be great for screenies and machinimas, and PvPers have no reason to cry foul.
Plus we can finally get to enjoy that ship skin we spent $$$ to buy from the store

Wait what? This has been confirmed?
If so, that is almost a dealbreaker for me about this game. I love taking screenshots, and getting stuck with Sidewinder and looking through the sunroof for the rest of my screenshotting life is not really an option.

It seems really odd that their main revenue idea is paint jobs for ships that you'll never be able to admire yourself. Honestly, how many people are going to bother paying for something they'll never see themselves?
Give us a proper 3rd person free camera when in solo (online & offline) and I can't see a problem. No PvP balance issues (imaginary or real), you switch to solo mode when you want to take pretty screenshots or admire the view. And if you don't think it "fits" with an Oculus-centric ethos, so what, Rift users don't have to use the 3rd person view if they don't like it...

Great to hear, thanks. I have no desire to play in 3rd person view so I'm fine with the direction they're taking.
I just hope it's not too gimped because of (mostly) imagined and rarely relevant balancing concerns, and that it is a real-time view, and not a silly recording you have to replay later like has been mooted.
That's been talked to utter death in this very thread. There's a few possible directions they could go that people have suggested to prevent it being used for any gamey advantage.
Frankly, my position is Frontier seem to be quite capable developers and probably know what they're doing...
Yes, I'm aware of this, but the earlier post by someone (incorrectly) said that there is new definitive information about the external view.
