I have to say, I wouldn't like to have an "external" gameplay camera, but cameras on the hull could be fun, and is a logicial option.

Also the possibility to record replay, and have the possibility to "direct" them using different cameras is something I appreciate a lot in flight sims, and since Elite is gorgeous, I am kinda expecting something like that :D

I would have no problem with an outside camera view if it won't be a combat option where elit would become another warthunder.

Would very much like to have external views, but under no circumstances must you be able to switch to external view during combat. Then it should be locked to cockpit view only. Locking on to any other ship, or them locking on to you should automatically force cockpit view only for both ships involved.

Either block when in combat or not available in online mode. Also it could have an instable moving camera, so it focuses on capturing your ship and scenery rather than being useful in combat. With not hud I would actually not see how someone can use this for combat as sensors are much more acurate.

This would be nice. Maybe they could make it a purchasable forward mounted camera? Essentially just a forward view clearing the UI. That way it has no advantage in combat and the people that want to take screenshots can do so.

Please gives us a camera view outside the ship.

I would like to have the option to look outside the ship and see for an example the turrets fire behind me and the sides.

I think we will never see this. They probably might add something like a camera drone at some point later but you should not be able to see weapons firing etc.

Hi, I certainly remember DB saying that combat in third person will not be possible. Why? It's a design decision that has been taken in respect of immersion for one thing. Repair droid camaras or drones or something like that might be happening :)

I'd love to see a utility module which gives an exterior, but still first person view with no cockpit or hud elements for the purpose of capturing video. Like, a camera pod for people "reporting" on in-game events.

This is sort of conflict. The idea is to make it more immersive experience by forcing player to be the actual pilot. For sure this is how it should be since this is true space sim after all. Not to mention that original Elite invented the genre.

However it raises the question "Do we want this game to be massive?". If the answer is "yes" then we need some sort of ship show off. Maybe as replay camera or something. Why? Well players would like to record these and put on social networks (YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, Facebook...). By posting these it will be free marketing for the game.

Just to make things clear: I don't want 3rd person combat. I also prefer to make player be 100% pilot from cockpit. However some way of making sequences outside of ship to record certain content for posting internet-wide would be more than welcome.

To be fair, that was not what the OP was requesting - and of course what will follow now is yet another thread hijacking...

Here's a suggestion
- Allow us to gaze at the beautiful ships from external view while not in combat.
There's already a combat-trigger (for the music). If it's triggered, return us to the cockpit.
- FD is asking user to buy skins for real money. Why refuse them to marvel at these investments? It doesn't make any sense. For combat reason, it makes sense, however it may be solved by using event triggers.

I really want to gaze at my 9 mill investment, side by side Brooks Estate.
Pretty please.

I have seen multiple threads on this. And they all confuse me. Why shouldn't we expect an external view, while at the same time I see a lot of screenshots show ships from the outside... How are these created then? Can only FD do this? Or am I missing a point here?

A fly by camera would be nice, you get a 10 second fly by shot of your ship, during which time you can't do anything and are locked into the fly by for the duration.

It gives you a nice view of your ship, it'd be suicide to use it in combat, and if you're daft enough to use it while flying toward something big, then tough. For immersion, it's a drone that's launched ahead of your ship, and you have a separate console away from your controls to use it.

I'm in favour of an external view through the use of a module that allows you to launch a camera drone or something, so that you can look at your lovely ship while maintaining basic flight controls. The idea of purchasing custom paint jobs etc seems a bit daft to me without the ability to actually see your ship apart from when you're outfitting in a station.

However, the external view should just allow basic flight, something to do in a quiet moment when you're parked near a planet or star or something. There should be no HUD elements, and no ability to fire weapons etc. Actual proper piloting of the ship must remain in first person cockpit view.

Elite invented the genre.

I'd settle for a rear view mirror - something that the original elite did have. And side views for that matter. From a sim perspective, there's no way that vehicles 1000 years in the future wouldn't have a rear view camera.

3rd person perspective will be added in some form, I'm absolutely sure of it. Maybe a drone camera that can be deployed at low speeds. However, should the player be attacked, the drone should immediately return to the ship and stow itself away.

It would still give you awareness of your surroundings, especially in the beginning of flyby shot, when you can see what's going on behind you.

Why can't we have nice things like an external camera? just a close chase cam so as not to give FOV advantages, you could even automatically disable the chase cam when in fire fights.
