Wow that sounds like a bad decision to me, hopefully they will amend this down the line
I don't want to dogfight in 3thd person but would like to see my ship as it cruises through the cosmos,
sigh would be nice. Oh well thanks for the info, hope it changes soon.

See the first post in the thread for a summary :)

There really should be an external option just for the sake of taking beauty shots/video, I like the drone idea. I prefer to play in cockpit view and wouldnt want to see 3rd person views in combat etc but sometimes it would be nice to see your own ship against the cosmic backdrop.

It has been requested by a few people, a few times :)

I'm hoping we get a nice surprise at Release :)

There shall be no 3rd person view except via a 'drone' that launches another 'drone' that can be operated ONLY whilst your are stationary with all input controls disconnected (also any interaction with Windows -Alt+Tabbing will also be disabled) and then thru a tiny degraded video screen somewhere in the back of the cockpit with a resolution of 320x200 (so you have to turn your head a full 360 degrees to see it) then, and only THEN shall a external view be allowed and thus maintain 'Immersion'™®©

*Also only 1 angle will be allowed, determined in advance by the original 'backers', via a democratic voting process. AND YOU SHALL LIKE IT.

Glad to see that you have a clear understanding of the natural order of things.... ;)

Please remove all videos with external views

Hello FD,

Can you please remove all videos where we can see external footage / view of the game ? And please do the same on ALL your videos published on Youtube, Vimeo...

Because, If a new visitor can see that, he will think that he will be able to do the SAME in the game but as you know, no external views are allowed... (For unclear, obscure reasons)

I think that is a misleading advertising.

One of my friends said : wow, amazing external views after visiting your website/your youtube channel. And I was forced to said : No, sorry, you'll not be able to have the same views... He said : What ? It's a joke???

I'm ok with your "philosophy" but, don't attract new players with this misleading advertising.

Or give us a permanent and definitive answer about that and when : for me, have a drone camera will not probably let us to make some video like we can see on your website.

Thanks

When you see an advertisement on TV for a new car, do you feel deceived because you will not experience driving it while looking at it from the outside?

I would say this is not the game for your friend if he's basing his decision on external views! That said I'd like to see them in the game. Not a deal breaker imo

And all the advertisements for different games that you see on TV. The ones that say "Not Actual Game Footage" or they are advertising the PS4 version and saying "Graphics Based on XBox Gameplay".

And don't get me started on all the 'lady product' adverts! I only know one woman who regularly jumps out of a play for fun, yet they imply that all women who use a particular brand all go parachuting!

Just not fair!

Actually yes, I was deceived a little. I backed Elite during PB1 days and I was certain there will be external views. Imagine my disappointment.

Yes, yes, it's my fault, I should have researched more. Caveat emptor.

To make it clear, of course I didn't back it solely because of external views, but I still think it's a hugely missed opportunity and that the "immersion breaking" excuse could have been alleviated with a "mission recorder" or even with a simple way to hide the canopy.

For what it is worth, a Dev is on record as saying that drones for external views are in the works (no E.T.A though).

While they're not alone in the industry as theres an age old practice of using pre-rendered footage in place of actual game play to promote a game, it doesnt make it right.
